    1968-1969 Game 3 results

This is easily our best chance at a win as the Thorobreds aren't much. We're going to start out in man and see what our defense is made of.

At the first media timeout at 14:51, we trail 5-12. Our offense is just so bad. Gentile has all 5 of our points. Gordon also has 2 fouls, which will only add to the futility.

We start hitting a few shots and at the 11:54 mark we trail 13-16. Stansbury has a three off the bench and 5 total points. We've switched to the matchup zone, the other defense we play.

For the first time all year, we go a nice, extended run, 11-3 to be exact, and suddenly at 6:23 after a KYST turnover, we lead 24-23.

A couple of three pointers have fallen, including one by the freshman Fowler, who didn't play the first two games. He's listed as a post, but his game resembles that of a 3 more than anything. He deserves playing time.

The lead changes hands several times over the last few minutes and Bowie has a chance to tie it up at the break, but only hits 1 of 2 free throws with 1 second left and the half time score is Kentucky State 35 - Hampton 34.

Gentile leads us with 12 points, and is having his best game of the year so far. Fowler and Stansbury have combined for 11 points off the bench. Neff has 8 boards and 2 assists.

The first media timeout is at 15:03 and both teams have started off hot, and it's all tied up at 47. Bratcher has hit a couple of threes, but both Gentile and Gordon have 3 fouls, which could pose a major problem if we want to win this game. Neff is up to 11 boards, but has 4 turnovers to go with them. Turner for KYST has 15 and 4.

10:13 left and we lead 54-53. Every time we get an opportunity to extend the lead we blow it with a turnover.

Gentile and Bowie come out and hit back to back three pointers, and with 9:34, the Thorobreds call timeout and we lead 60-53.

At the 6:54 mark we've extend the lead just a bit, up to 68-59. Stansbury has hit a couple more threes, and has 11 points now. It's probably fools gold. Gentile is 2-7 from three, but 6-11 from the field total and has 17 points.

Gentile hits back to back threes, though KYST gets one in between. Gentile then draws a charge to bring us to the last media timeout at 3:27, and we lead 77-70. Gentile's baskets get him up to 23 points.

We turn the ball over a lot down the stretch, but KYST can't take advantage of it. Plus, we hit a few more threes before it is all said and done, and Emmett14 finally picks up his first win as a college coach. Final score: Hampton 84 - Kentucky State 74.

Gentile finally has a breakout game after some lackluster performances to start the season. He's a very good offensive guard, he just hadn't shown it yet. Bratcher with a nice, efficient game. Stansbury's game off the bench will probably be his best of the year. The freshman Fowler and the senior Hackney will be battling for playing time all year as a hybrid 3/4.

15-33 from beyond the arc. Shooting threes is really the only way this team will find much success offensively, but probably shouldn't get too used to that performance from beyond the arc.

      1968-1969 Game 4

November 28th, 1986 at Virginia Commonwealth Rams (0-3)
      Location: Richmond, Virginia
      Conference: Colonial Athletic Association
      1967-1968 Record: 13-18 (7-9)
      Postseason: None

Virginia Commonwealth (VCU) is a 56 prestige school that before last season had a nice run of success, making 3 NCAA tournaments, 2 NITs and a CI.com tournament in the last 8 years, they even made the 2nd round in 1962-63. However, there claim to fame is them winning the national championship in 1904-1905 and adding a Final Four in 1906-07. Until the 1920's, VCU was a regular in postseason tournaments, but they truly were an elite team in the NCAA from 1900-1908.

They are off to a really bad start this year, with road losses to Akron and #12 UConn, and just recently a home loss to a sorry Radford team. They'll be looking to get back on track against us.

PG: Snyder, 5'11", Junior: Started 6 games last year and averaged 9.4 points and 1.5 assists in 17 minutes. Playing 36 minutes a contest so far. All about offense, similar to our own Dirk Gentile, but with better PG skills. Poor defender and has been turnover prone this year.

SG: Rollo, 6'5", Senior: 4 year starter. Missed half the season last year due to injury, but averaged 10.8 points and 4 rebounds a game. At 16 so far this year. He's a very strong shooter and solid defender.

SF: Leclair, 6'2", Senior: Started last year and averaged 9.2 points a game. Aggressive offensive player that will shoot from anywhere with varying degrees of success. Has some ball skills and can play anywhere on the perimeter.

PF: Webber, 6'8", Junior: Started last year and averaged 8 and 4. Very talented offensive post, that has never quite taken off. Should score a lot more than he does. Just average elsewhere in his game.

C: Virdine, 6'10", Center: Started last year and averaged 7 and 7. Similar to Webber in that he hasn't played up to his ratings. Scores and rebounds and is big and strong. Neither he nor Webber are in good shape, so that might have something to do with their lackluster numbers.

Bench: Snyder is a 6'4", Sophomore walk-on guard who can really shoot it and it has gotten him into the rotation. Swann is a true freshman point guard that can shoot the ball, but is a little over his head right now. Wilson is their main post off the bench, the 6'8" sophomore is a good rebounder but doesn't do much else. Marshall is a skilled 4/3 hybrid that will play some, but he can't defend anybody.

Coach: Noah Jones, 41 years old. 68-65 career record. 5th season at VCU.

Not a good coach that really lucked out into this job. He was an assistant at VCU who was promoted after the 63-64 season.

They've got a solid starting lineup and two talented posts. But, their bench is horrific. We're going to turn the tempo up and try to get their posts tired and hope we don't get in foul trouble as a by-product. A somewhat possible chance for a win here.

        1968-1969 Game 4 Results

The first two points aren't until 15:11 when VCU knocks down a couple of free throws after the first media timeout. We trail 0-2. Perfect opportunity to get a lead to start the game, but we're too busy going 0-6 to start the game.

Stansbury hits our first field goal with 12:05 left to get us up to 3-14.

At the 6:58 mark, we trail 10-31, and it's funny I thought we might have had a chance. I didn't anticipate us starting the game off 19% from the field though either. Stansbury leads us with 3(!) points. Neff has 2 fouls.

Ceja hits a bucket at the buzzer to inch us just a bit closer at half. The score is Virginia Commonwealth 51 - Hampton 21. We've been horrible offensively, shooting 23% from the field and 11% from beyond the arc, 2-22. Gordon and Gentile both have 5 points.

The second half might not have too many updates and a lot of scrubs playing.

We actually make a tiny, little run and get within 20 before Stansbury single handedly kills that with a bunch of missed threes and turnovers. I eventually call timeout with 13:27 left to take him out and to see the core at 34-62.
Neff picked up his 4th foul pretty quickly.

7:23 left and we trail 42-73. Not much worth noting. Gentile has 12 points and Gordon 8. Bratcher is 2-11 from the field for 6 points. Synder has 16 points, 7 boards and 5 assists for VCU. I do think my strategy of running their posts up and down the court is a good idea, I just don't have the talent to do it.

I wouldn't normally update just 2 minutes later in a blow-out like this, but VCU comes out of the media time out with 4 straight three pointers and myself with a bunch of nothing to make it 42-87 with 5:23 left and I call timeout.

Scrubs play the last 4 minutes, and we manage to get a Greco three pointer and a Floyd Brown put back to help make the final score: Virginia Commonwealth 97 - Hampton 53. We go 17-61 from the field and 7-37 from three and beat 55-28 on the glass. Not the result I was anticipating.

I was worried Old Dominion was going to snatch him with a late offer, but we held on. He looks like a strong offensive point guard with some passing ability, and has to be a shoe in to start the at the point next year and likely the next 4. He'll also allow Gentile to slide over to the 2, which his natural position.

            1968-1969 Game 5

            December 2nd, 1968 at North Carolina-Asheville Bulldogs (2-3)
            Location: Asheville, North Carolina
            Conference: Big South Conference
            1967-1968 record: 20-15 (11-7)
Postseason: Lost in the 1st Round of the NCAA Tournament to (1) seed Ohio State 91-99.

UNC Asheville is a 39 prestige school who had had a pretty lackluster history as a program. They started off strong with a string of very good seasons from 1900-1910, and then went on to have, for the most part, a 50 year run of futility. Their NCAA tournament appearance last year was their 4th of all time.

They won 2 out of 3 games in their preseason tournaments. But, have lost two straight home games against Florida Tech and Wofford and FTech is an independent school.

They are without their freshman starting point guard, Hartley who will miss a couple of weeks with an injury. He's a big loss too, as he's a very steady point guard even as a freshman that can hit a three and play a little defense.

PG: Sandusky, 5'9", Junior: Starting for Hartley. He's got some offensive punch, but is not a good passer and doesn't play much D either. The weakest starting point guard we've faced this year.

SG: Tse, 6'5", Sophomore: Started last year and averaged 15 a game as a freshman. Takes a lot of threes. Started off cold this year, but is too good to stay at 27% from beyond the arc. Rebounds well for a guard.

SF: Ridenhour, 6'6", Senior: Walk-on who started 13 games as a freshman, but has hardly played the last 2 seasons. Horrid defender who can kind of, sort of score.

PF: Mosely, 6'7", Sophomore: Started last year and averaged 10 and 8. Very talented offensive big man who will score inside and cause all sorts of problems on the glass. A double double machine. Really bad defender. He's who I hope our recruit Roop can resemble.

C: Goddard, 6'10", Junior: 3 year starter. Averaged 11.7 and 7.3 last season. Another very productive big man. Off to a tremendous start this year, with 18.8 points and 10 rebounds a game. Will probably see his stats fall off a bit, but he and Mosely are a tough front line.

Bench: Lewis is a former starter who comes off the bench to play 15 minutes a game. He's a great rebounder, and competent defender. Tolley is a pure catch and shoot wing who doesn't nothing else but shoot the ball extremely well. Anderson is 6'5" and a near carbon copy of Tolley. A lot of very bad perimeter defenders on their bench.

Coach: Jerry Remington, 37 years old. 2-3 career record. 1st season at UNC-Asheville.

First year coach who spent the last 3 seasons at a very good Saint Louis program. He's a maxed out defensive coach, who suffers everywhere else. Potentially could have been the coach I became if I hadn't found the Hampton guy. (Did that make sense?)

They've got a power 5 front line and an independent set of perimeter players. Tse is legit, but everyone outside of him is garbage. I guess we'll go man and hope our big guys can survive against theirs.

              1968-1969 Game 5 Results

We have yet another excruciatingly bad start, and trail 3-13 at the 14:50 mark when I have to call a mercy time-out. Mosley and Goddard have already combined for 10 points and 4 boards for the Bulldogs. Gordon has our only basket.

10:36 and we trail 8-24. Gordon's hit a few more shots and 7 of our 8 points. I bring in Ovalle, a reserve post, because he can really rebound. He doesn't do anything else, but I need someone who can compete on the glass against their front line. Stansbury is horrible, he's 0-3 to start the game and just keeps shooting.

Ovalle gives us a spark as we go on a 12-3 run to make it 20-27 with 6:40. Ovalle hits a 3 and gets a steal. Gentile quickly has 9 points and has helped fuel the spurt.

UNC Asheville comes right back with a quick 6-0 run, but we respond and by the 3:26 mark, we've cut the lead to 28-35. Gentile is up to 10 points.

Tse hits a shot at the buzzer to make the score at halftime UNC Asheville 41 - Hampton 33. Mosely had a very nice run down the stretch and his scoring totals ballooned to 19 very quickly. Throw in 9 from Goddard and you have a Bulldog frontcourt that is dominating me. Started doubling Mosely inside with about 4 minutes to go, and he continued to score. So I'll back off that for the moment. Need Bratcher and Gordon to hit some threes in the 2nd to keep us in it.

First media time out is at 15:17 and we trail 41-50. Tse, Goddard and Mosley have combined for 46 of UNCA's 49 points. We can't stop any of them despite the different settings combos I've played with.

Fast forward to 7:55 and we trail 48-65. Starting to miss a lot of threes, and UNCA is just slowly breaking away and watching the clock wind down.

The rest of the game has UNCA maintain a 14-20 point lead all the way to the final buzzer when the final score shows UNC Asheville 78 - Hampton 62. Another poor offensive showing for the squad as the missed three point shots continue to rain down on my unvanquished foes. 10-38 in this one. The three studs for the Bulldogs tore me to pieces.

Loving the series so far and can’t wait to see this program turn around. One question tho. Why is it the 1968 season? Doesn’t make a difference for how much I’m enjoying the series but I was just wondering.

Thanks! There's a lot of customization to this game. I decided to start in the year 1900 and simulate enough seasons to get a good amount of history and record books established before taking over. No real reason for the year 1968, just happened to be when I decided it was time to jump in.

We're 1-4 on the season with some really atrocious numbers as a team.

December 6th, 1968 vs the Virginia Union Panthers (1-3)
                      Location: Richmond, Virginia
                      Conference: Big South Conference
                      1967-1968 record: 11-19 (7-11)
                      Postseason: None

Virginia Union is a 14 prestige team that was in the original batch of new teams in 1900. They were one of the first to make it to a conference, getting invited to the Big South Conference for the 1913-14 season. The teens were a strong point for the Panthers, making several NIT's and one 2nd round NCAA run in 1922-23. They had a nice run in the late 50's, but ever since the 1958-59 season, they've been sub par.

They have played a tough schedule so far, and did just recently pick up their first win of the season at home against Maryland Eastern Shore.

They've got some injuries. Gaskin, a starting forward who averaged 10.6 a game last year is banged up and won't start, but might play. And their 3 year starter at PF, Wigley is out for another month.

PG: Pendleton, 6'4", Junior: 3 year starter. Averaged 7.4 points a game last year. More of a combo guard. Plays solid defense and can hit a three, but won't really create the way you want your point guard to.

SG: Cheney, 6'5", Senior: 4 year starter. Averaged 13.6 points and 6.5 rebounds a game last year. Productive guard, who rebounds well for his position and has the ability to put up big numbers, but his shooting percentages haven't been pretty his first 3 years.

SF: Edwards, 6'3", Senior: Started 10 games last year and averaged 4.6 points. Pretty unspectacular all around.

PF: Tesch, 6'8", Senior: Looks like he plays some 3 too, but shouldn't. Averaging 7 and 6. Good offensive rebounder, not much else.

C: Bergman, 6'11", Senior: Played 6 minutes a game last year. Reall ybad. Can score a bit inside, but that's about all.

Bench: Mahon is a senior guard who should probably be in the starting lineup. He's 6'0" and the closest thing to a point guard on their roster. He still gets 20 minutes a game. Prather is a shooter off the bench that will get 10 minutes. The aforementioned Gaskin is banged up but might come in off the bench. German sophomore forward Reuss is playing 10 minutes a game and besides decent defense isn't doing much during it.

Coach: Jess Mauney, 33 years old. 26-38 career record. 3rd season at Virginia Union.

Excellent defensive coach that doesn't do much else. Was at North Carolina for 3 years prior to the gig with the Panthers.

Good chance for a win, especially with their injuries. It's too bad we don't have any sort of post threat or we'd be able to jump all over this front line. This is our last home game for 3 weeks, so it'd be nice to pick up a win.

                        1968-1969 Game 6 Results

We start off in man and doubling Cheney, he seems to be the only guy that can really hurt us.

The second media time out is at 11:18 and we trail 6-12. Again, a horrendous offensive start to the game. We shoot so many threes, and are already 1-11 with Gordon (who's attempted 6) being the only player to make one. Ceja gets banged up and can stay in the game, but will be limited.

We play a decent stretch of basketball finally and the next media time out at 7:53 has us down 18-20. Neff hit a three, but also picked up his 2nd foul. Besides Neff, everyone else who has scored only has the 1 basket. We've currently got a lineup of Gordon, Bratcher, Fowler, Hackney and Ovalle. Which is probably the worst lineup I've put out there in a competitive game.

But, they do a decent enough job and the last media time out is at 2:53 after a defensive stop by Hampton. It's tied at 25.

We take a lead into half-time for the first time this season. The score is Hampton 34 - Virginia Union 31.

Gordon leads us with 10 points, but has put up a lot of shots. Gentile is scoreless, which I can't imagine will happen again in the second half. Bratcher's got 7. Cheney has 13 for Virginia Union.

The lead is still 3 at the first media timeout with 15:40 left. 43-40. Gentile got his first bucket a couple of minutes in. Ovalle has become the primary bench post with the injury to Ceja.

With 11:24 our lead is now 54-46. Gordon is up to 13 and Bratcher has 12. If it wasn't for Cheyney hitting a couple of threes and having 10 point this half already, for 23 total points we'd really be doing well.

We give almost all of it back though, as Virginia Union runs off a 8-2 run and with 7:39 left, the score is 54-56. Gordon is missing a lot of shots, 4-12 from the field now.

The last media timeout comes with 3:50 on the clock and we lead 65-64. Some sloppy lay down the stretch by oth teams. Neff has 12 and 5, and Stansbury is having a strong game with 14 and is picking up the slack caused by Gentile's very weak game. Still just 2 points for my leading scorer.

Gentile grabs a rebound, his first, with 1:40 left and I call timeout with the lead 67-60. I make a couple of subs and my starters are back in for the stretch run, with us having the ball.

Gordon misses a three, Union gets the rebound. Pendleton drops it off inside to a tired Bergman, and he can't convert. Gordon grabs his 6th rebound and we still lead by 1 with 44 seconds left. We're going to try to use as much clock as we can. Union is in the double bonus. Our starting lineup is decent from the line, with the major exception of Neff. He's 3-9 so far this season.

They choose to foul and will send Gordon to the line for two free throws. He sinks both of them. 69-66 with 34 seconds left.

They miss a three and Gordon grabs another rebound, gets fouled and will go the line. He misses the 1st, but makes the 2nd and it's a 70-66 lead with 20 seconds left. We come out in a press and force a bad pass from Cheyney and get the ball back.

Gordon gets fouled again on the inbounds pass. Misses both attempts, but Gentile gets the rebound and gets fouled. And he only gets 1 of 2. But, all of that is inconsequential as we hold on to the lead and grab our second victory.

Final score: Hampton 71 - Virginia Union 66
Nice to snatch another win. Stansbury with a big time game off the bench to help us with Gentile struggling. Bratcher and Neff were both efficient which is rare on this team. Ceja didn't return after the injury (fractured nose), even though he could have. He'll be 100% or darn close by the next game.

We have the ability to shoot the ball and at some point we're going to get hot and really put it to a couple of teams in the MEAC.

This is a 3 day tournament with 8 teams. Win or lose each team gets a full slate of 3 games. This is a lower level prestige tournament and we'll face a lot of opponents with similar prestige level as we have (26). Besides a little success in the late 40's/early 50's, UMBC has largely struggled. Though they are just 3 years removed from a 15-3 conference record. 5 NCAA appearances in their history.

UMBC comes into the tournament on a 4 game losing streak after beating up on two of the weakest teams in the nation to start the season. They have played 3 power 5 schools so far.

PG: Peppers, 5'10", Senior: Started last year and averaged 13.5 points a game. An aggressive offensive guard off to a slow start, he'll shoot a few threes, but is much more comfortable going to the basket. Bad defender and better suited off the ball.

SG: Carter, 6'0", Junior: Played 9 minutes a game last year. Shoots the three a bit, but that's about all.

SF: Rumph, 6'4", Junior: Started 14 games last year. Gets to the rim and to the free throw line. Okay defender. Putting in 14.7 a game this year.

PF: Davis, 6'8", Senior: Hardly played the last 2 years before transferring from Grand Canyon. He's a good rebounder and that's all.

C: Langevin, 6'11", Freshman: Talented offensive freshman. Averaging just under 11 a game right now. Scores inside and can step out and shoot the three. Weak on the glass and on defense and would get bullied around by a good center, too bad we don't have one.

Bench: Gee is a combo guard who can score a bit and will see 20 or so minutes. True freshman point guard Cox is 5'11" and can really shoot the ball, but struggles doing much else. Reyes is a good shooter off the bench but very one dimensional. Giguere is an underwhleming reserve post who will probably go for 12 and 8 now.

Coach: Benton Hopkins, 34 years old. 47-51 career record. 4th season at UMBC. Really good coach, but is a horrid recruiter that has had a hard time getting any talent to coach up. Probably won't be around long and will be trying again as a head coach down the line. Just needs a lucky situation to be successful.

They certainly aren't scary and give us a decent opportunity to win the 1st day of our tournament. We have a better frontcourt than they do and our starting guards are pretty equal. The one advantage they have on us, like all teams, is actual perimeter depth that can contribute to the game.

We'll play either (2) Charleston Southern or (7) North Alabama on day 2.

Ceja is at 99% and he'll play his usual role, though the rebounding capabilities of Ovalle are threatening to take his spot.

The first media time out is at 14:47 and we're down 8-9. Gordon has a three pointer, our only of the game.

We lead 13-11 with 11:40 left, Bratcher has a couple of baskets and leads us with 5 points.

Rob Cox, their true freshman point guard runs off 8 straight points on us. And after a Gentile rebound I call timeout to regather ourselves and make a sub or two. It's 9:18 on the clock and we trail 13-21.

Cox is destroying me off the bench, and is up to 14 points a career high for him. Nobody but Bratcher has more than 1 basket. We're down 19-31 with 6:20 left.

We finally start knocking down some threes, and after looking like we were about to be blown out, we salvage a bit of face and battle back to the make the half time score UMBC 43 - Hampton 30.

We switched to zone late in the half and it helped a bit, but we're shooting 29.7% and no defensive changes is going to fix that. Gentile hit a couple of threes before intermission and has 8 points. Bratcher has 5 points and 7 boards.

Neff ties up UMBC and the possession arrow is point towards us and it ends a very excellent start to the 2nd half. With only 2 minutes off the clock, 17:58, we trail just 43-47 now. Gentile and Gordon have both started off hot and have 13 and 12 points respectively.

Gentile completes a 3 point play with 15:19 left and ties the game up at 53. A 23-10 start to the 2nd half, but now our starting lineup has to start coming out of the game, and this is where it gets tough.

Fowler hits a three with 10:15 left to push our lead to 59-55 and UMBC calls a timeout. Bratcher has a double double now with 10 and 10. He's not a very good rebounder, so this will probably be a rare occurrence.

I call timeout after an Ovalle rebound with us leading 67-64 and 4:59 on the clock. Gordon and Gentile are up to 15 and 18. The game doesn't keep running totals, but with quick addition, I believe we are 13-39 from beyond the arc so far.

Fowler gets 5 quick points to give us some separation and I call time out at 3:49 to make a few subs and with us leading 72-66. The starting lineup is in to try to wrap this one up.

With 2:03 left, we lead 75-71 and UMBC is in foul mode, because they only have 4 team fouls so far. Ceja comes in for Neff for free throw purposes.

We go to the line a bunch, and don't do to well from the line, but UMBC keeps missing shots, so we've slowly extended the lead. Ceja gets hurt again, again minor and leaves the game and and will be banged up for the rest of the tournament. We struggle at the line all the way to the end, but we manage to hold on and come away with a very nice come from behind victory. Final score: Hampton 82 - UMBC 76.

Gentile paced us with 21 points, 6 boards and 3 assists. Bratcher with a double double and Gordon with 17 and 7. We end up 15-41 from beyond the arc. A very fast paced, low efficiency game. We move on in the winner's bracket, and have guaranteed a top 4 finish in the tournament!

North Florida is a 26 prestige team that joined the NCAA fairly recently in 1947. They've got two postseason appearances to their credit, including a solid 21-11 season that resulted in a 3rd round trip in the CBI just two years ago. They are a candidate to join the SWAC before too long.

They won their first game of the season when they took care of Charleston Southern, 66-58 in their opening game.

PG: Richardson, 6'2", Sophomore: Started last year and averaged 11.5 a game. Good shooter who will put up quite a few threes a game. Passing is improving. Big time recruit for an independent team.

SG: Sadowski, 6'2", Freshman: Not much. Good passer, and will get in the passing lanes, but is an underwhelming offensive player.

SF: Gold, 6'8", Senior: 4 year starter. Off to a tremendous start shooting the ball, but is playing over his year. Very slow footed on the perimeter and is better inside. Can score a bit, but is not a 16 a game guy.

PF: Dortch, 6'9", Sophomore: Started last year. Got in just one game last season before missing the rest of the season to injury and redshirted. As a freshman he averaged 6.7 rebounds and assists. Good rebounder and has a nice touch inside. Not much defensively.

C: Barnart, 6'10", Senior: Started last year and averaged 8.6 and 6.3. Very similar player to Dortch in most every way.

Bench: Cook is a good defense and rebounding big with good intangibles. Session is a true freshman point guard who has gotten a lot of minutes so far. He's big enough at 6'3" that he can get a way with playing different positions. Some other guys get some spot minutes, but they are pretty much a 7 deep team.

Coach: Charles Fey, 46 years old. 15-22 career record. 2nd season at North Alabama.

Maxed out defensive coach with solid recruiting and scouting ratings as well. If he can get a few players, he could find some success down the line. Already 46 though.

Tough team inside, but they really don't have much in the way of perimeter shooting. I'll zone them and double some inside and see how it goes. We've certainly played more talented teams.

We'll either play St. Francis-NY or College of Charleston next game, potentially for the championship.

Ceja is at 81% and probably won't be relied on too much in this game. Ovalle will see minutes in front of him.

Both teams come out firing and at the 15:00 mark, we trail 14-17. Both teams have been hitting threes. Richardson has already hit 3 of them for the Lions. Bratcher has 2 himself and leads us with 8 points. We've had early turnover problems that have led to easy baskets for N. Alabama.

At the 7:49 mark we lead 28-26. Bratcher has been awesome, with 16 points on 9 shots and has 2 three pointers. Gentile has 6 points and Gordon 4. Neff has 2 fouls and is sitting currently.

They go on a 7-0 run and I have to call timeout with 4:47 left, and we trail 28-33. Richardson is killing me, and has 14 points already.

At half time the score is North Alabama 41 - Hampton 37. Bratcher leads us with 16 points and 4 boards. Richardson has been lights out so far for the Lions. We're hitting a good percentage of threes and are just barely hanging with them.

After falling down by as many as 8, Bratcher gets a tip in with 12:54 that forces North Alabama to call timeout because we've got it to 56-58 and it also gets Bratcher his 20th point. Barnhart and Gold are causing problems inside, combining for 23 and 11 so far.

I wasn't paying attention to fouls, I guess, and Bowie got 3 quick ones and fouled out with 10:34 left. It's all tied at 60.
                                Gordon's got 10 points, 7 boards and 4 assists.

Bratcher nails a 3 with 7:25 to increase our lead to 72-66. I call timeout to make a few subs and try to maintain the momentum. Hopefully, this is a break out game for Bratcher and not a one-time thing. Stansbury has 10 off the bench and is having a good game as well.

With 4:33 left, we're on the verge of taking control of the game, we lead 81-70 after a nice flurry of points Gordon, getting him to 15 to go with his 8 points and 6 assists.

They make a few threes at the end, to get them back into fouling mode and it allows Bratcher to hit some more free throws and end up with 32 points, a tremendous game for the freshman. He had 8 boards as well. Final score ends up being Hampton 91 - North Alabama 83. Gentile ended up with 21 and Gordon had his aforementioned 15, 8 and 6. Stansbury with a 6-7 game off the bench for 15, and he's really having a pretty good freshman year so far. 17-38 from beyond the arc, our best performance there of the year.

Onto the championship game of the Lon Varnell Classic!
