Coaching Legacy of Marcus Fletcher (CH2K8)

Lorman, MS - Alcorn State University announced that they fired coach Samuel West today after 4 seasons, accumulating a 37-79 record. Marcus Fletcher was announced as West's predecessor.

Fletcher is a native of Houston, TX where he played college basketball at the University of St. Thomas. After a successful career, he went right into the coaching field where he started as an assistant at Houston Baptist University. Then he moved on to be the head coach at Mississippi College, where he lead the Choctaws to 3 straight conference championships.

"I just want to thank Alcorn State University on giving me the opportunity to lead this program" Said Coach Fletcher during his introductory press conference. "I can't wait to meet with the players and get this program trending into the right direction. There is a lot of talent on this team and I'm looking forward to our first practice."

Hello everyone! I'm starting up another coach legacy to compliment my current one https://forums.operationsports.com/f...lis-ch2k8.html. The reason I'm starting another career legacy is because this legacy is strictly a Coach Mode legacy whereas my other legacy (which I plan on still playing) is me actually playing the games. I always enjoyed playing coach mode in this game as it presents a new challenge and makes winning more difficult. With that said, I can't wait to get this started!

            Alcorn State vs. Southeast Louisiana
            November 9th, 2007 @ The University Center

Alcorn State went on a 8-0 run to end the game to escape and give coach Fletcher his first Division 1 victory tonight, 67-55.

This game was tight throughout as neither team could pull off a run to put the other team away. Alcorn State was extremely aggressive in the paint tonight, which was the main reason they were able to pull of a victory in Louisiana. Alcorn State held a 28-16 advantage in points in the paint. Alcorn State also out rebounded the Lions tonight, 38-28.

Sheray Iguodala scored a team-high 16 points in the victory. Carlos Desilos had a double-double tonight, as he scored 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Damany Songondo came off the bench and scored 11 points.

Southeast Louisiana was led by Julio Hazel, as he scored a game-high 20 points tonight. Craig Head scored 17 points but it took him an inefficient 23 shots to get there. Dommanic Goss had a double-double, as he scored 10 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.

In other news, Terry Cable left today's game with a sprained ankle, he is questionable for next game.

Alcorn State (1-0) gets back to work on November 12th when they travel to Norman to take on the Oklahoma Sooners.

              Alcorn State vs. Oklahoma
              November 12th, 2007 @ Lloyd Noble Center

Oklahoma easily defeated Alcorn State tonight, 92-55.

This game was never close as Oklahoma ran out to an early double-digit lead to start the game. From there, it was smooth sailing for the Sooners as the Braves weren't able to cut the lead past double-digits tonight.

Oklahoma used their superior size advantage to hold a massive 42-23 rebound advantage tonight. The Sooners also played outstanding defense as they held the Braves to 28% from the field, including 18% from three. Oklahoma shot a blistering 54% from the field and 40% from three.

Senior guard Matthew McGrain scored 19 points and pulled down 7 rebounds to lead the Sooners tonight. Clarke Bozovic came off the bench and scored 17 points. Jarred Trammell also came off the bench to score 14 points and pulled down a game-high 8 rebounds. Every player on the Sooners scored a point tonight.

Alcorn State was led by Carlos Desilos as he scored 17 points tonight. Sheray Iguodala scored 10 points. Elijah Smith came off the bench and chipped in 8 points.

Alcorn State (1-1) gets back to action on November 18th when they travel to Hawaii (1-1).

                    Alcorn State vs. Hawaii
November 18th, 2007 @ The Stan Sheriff Center

With 4 seconds remaining and down 3 points, Elliot Valentine converted the rare 4 point play to steal a victory from Alcorn State tonight, 70-69.

Alcorn State had a chance to seal the victory at the foul line, however, Shavlik Starks missed the front end free throw. Elliot Valentine quickly dribbled up the court and pulled up at the three point line and knocked down the shot while being fouled by Sheray Iguodala. Valentine was able to knock down the game winning free throw after the foul. Alcorn State had their own chance of winning the game at the end but Carlos Desilos missed a mid range shot from the baseline to seal the Braves fate.

Alcorn State struggled from the free throw line tonight, as they only converted 50%. The Braves also struggled holding on to the ball tonight, as the Rainbow Warriors forced 10 turnovers. Hawaii only had 3 turnovers themselves.

Rudolph Shimokawa scored 13 points and had 3 steals in the victory. Elliot Valentine ended the game scoring 11 points.

Alcorn State was led by Carlos Desilos, as he scored 19 points and pulled down 8 rebounds. Sheray Iguodala scored 11 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Damany Songondo came off the bench and scored 11 points. Pearson Goodson just missed out on a double-double, as he scored 8 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. He also blocked 2 shots.

Alcorn State (1-2) gets back to action on November 23rd, when they take on Ole Miss (3-0).

                          Alcorn State vs. Ole Miss
November 23rd, 2007 @ The Tad Smith Coliseum

Ole Miss used a second half 35-10 run to defeat Alcorn State tonight, 77-54.

Alcorn State and Ole Miss were back and forth much of the first half. With two minutes remaining before halftime and the score tied up at 28, Alcorn State went on a quick 7-3 run to take a 4 point lead into halftime.

The beginning of the second half was much like the first as neither team could pull away from each other. However, with 15 minutes remaining and Alcorn State up 44-42, Ole Miss turned up the intensity on defense as they proceeded to hold the Braves scoreless for the next 8 minutes as they went on a 24-0 run. The Rebels never looked back as they cruised the remainder of the way, wining by 23.

Ole Miss held Alcorn State to 31% shooting from the field, including 25% from three. The Rebels shot a respectable 43% from the field and 31% from three. Ole Miss also held an advantage in the rebound department, as they out rebounded Alcorn State, 41-31.

Ole Miss was led by Spanky Worley as he just missed out on a triple-double, he finished with 12 points, 14 rebounds, and 8 assists. Sidiki Perez poured in 16 points. Jose Thomson and Cordell Reese came off the bench and chipped in 11 and 10 points respectively.

Damany Songondo came off the bench and scored 11 points to lead the Braves. Carlos Desilos was the only other Brave in double figures, as he scored 10 points and grabbed 5 rebounds.

Alcorn State (1-3) gets back to action when they travel to Louisiana-Monroe (2-2) on November 27th.

                              Alcorn State vs. Louisiana-Monroe
                              November 27, 2007 @ The Fant-Ewing Coliseum

Alcorn State hit clutch free throws down the stretch to knock off Louisiana-Monroe, 79-71.

The Braves were on fire all game long as they played the most efficient offensive game of the season, they shot 53% from the field and 44% from three. Louisiana-Monroe did all they could to keep up with the red hot Braves but they fell short as they did not have enough fire power to keep up.
