Still shocked that Jacksonville managed to get an at-large bid last year. Unheard of for such a small conference.

Me too. It was such a pleasant surprise. Was great getting two Atlantic Sun teams in the tourney. I wonder if we can do it again. They are good enough to repeat that feat probably.

So i guess players in the college game grow during the offseason? I never got all that deep when playing it back in the day.

Yeah, they definitely grow as HS recruits and I've seen some growth (though nothing crazy) once they join your team. I definitely see them gain weight though.

            2022 NBA Free Agency Results

The 2022 NBA free agency period has wrapped up and it was a wild one. There were several major trades, some unexpected signings, and several players that have been left without a team as they refuse to adhere to vaccine protocols.

            Headlines
Mega Blockbuster Deal Between Boston, Portland, and Indiana
Damian Lillard is a Celtic, Jaylen Brown a Blazer, and the roster of all three teams looks vastly different than in years past. All three teams found themselves underperforming expectations and were not content with standing pat. Portland is still talented, but has more balance and youth on their roster. Boston goes all-in on the big stars and gets a big man, and Indiana moves away from their twin towers for a more guard-heavy approach. More details on the trade below.

Zach Lavine Leaves Chicago for Charlotte
The Hornets decided to move on from Collin Sexton and Devonte Graham and have signed the injured Zach Lavine to be their starting 2-guard this year. Lavine grew tired of treading water and joined the internet’s favorite team. Lavine is out 2-4 months to start the year.

Vaccine-Hesitant Players Find Themselves Without a Team
The NBA is requiring a vaccination and booster against the COVID-19 virus for the 2022-23 season and a large number of players find themselves without a team due to their hesitancy to be fully vaccinated. The players on the sideline include Collin Sexton, Chris Paul, Juan King, Miles Bridges, and Wendell Carter Jr.

            Trades
First, we’ll get the boring trade out of the way. To make room for their young bigs (like Stewart Mobley), the Nets traded DeAndre Jordan (C, 85 ovr) to the Knicks for Jace Tarpley (SF, 75 ovr), which freed up $8 million in cap space. Now onto the main event.

Boston realized that the Tatum-Brown combination was never going to win them a title, despite how great each player is individually. In a stroke of good luck, the Trail Blazers knew that Lillard wanted a title and likely wouldn’t get it with the youth movement that’s happening in Portland. To make the talent and salaries work out they needed a third team, which came in the form of the Indiana Pacers – another team who realized that Brogdon, Oladipo, Turner, and Sabonis weren’t going to get them an NBA title.

The Celtics get a bona fide star who is hungry for a title and supplement him with the best big man they’ve had since Kevin Garnett.

The Blazers get a fantastic three and D shooting guard (and an upgrade over McCollum), a very solid point guard, and get talent and nostalgia with Arvydas Sabonis’ son coming to town. Putting Sabonis at the 5, they can start the West’s two best rookies of 2021-22 (Gordon Cousineaux and Christophe Perben) at the 3 and 4.

The Pacers add 3 draft picks and a reasonably talented backcourt in McCollum and Walker.

However, these teams weren’t done with moves.

With McCollum on the team and a lack of bigs, Indiana traded the oft-injured Oladipo to New Orleans for Steven Adams. Adams was now expandable given that the Pelicans will be starting Zion and rookie Adrian Stewart in their frontcourt and needed more backcourt talent to support the talented big men.

Wanting to build around their young talent, the Magic sent Nikola Vucevic to the Hawks for a pair of backup bigs and a top 5 protected first rounder. The Hawks were awful last year, but have the talent (Trae Young, DeMar DeRozan, and others) to be successful, but have struggled to find a big man since they bewilderingly let top 5 pick Juan King walk after 1 year.

The Celtics found themselves with a bench that was entirely big men and not enough minutes for Myles Turner, Daniel Theis, Stephen Bathie, Tacko Fall, and Robert Williams. The Hawks had just sent their backup bigs to Orlando and had too many guards. Boston sent Theis and talented young center Bathie to the Hawks in exchange for a backup PG and wing player.

With these trades and the signings below, here are the starting lineups for the teams that made moves.

            Re-Signings
Luka Doncic, Mavericks 5 years, $183M
Trae Young, Hawks, 5 years, $154M
Marvin Bagley III, Pistons, 5 years $150M Pistons
DeAndre Ayton, Warriors, 5 years, $151M Warriors
Jonas Valanciunas, Grizzlies, 5 years, $99M
            TJ Warren, Pacers, 4 years, $ 84M
Bradley Beal, Nuggets, 5 years, $195M
Mo Bamba, Magic, 5 year, $119M
Jaren Jackson Jr, Grizzlies, 4 years, $113M
Blake Griffin, Cavaliers, 4 years, $95M
Kevin Huerter, Hawks, 4 years, $66.5M
Donte DiVincenzo, Bucks, 4 years, $66.5M
Jrue Holiday, Grizzlies, 2 years, $20M

            Changed Teams
Zach Lavine left Chicago for Charlotte.
Mitchell Robinson left the Knicks and signed with the Bulls.
Mikal Bridges left the Suns and also joined the Bulls.
Nico Melli is no longer a Pelican and is on the Lakers.
Pat Beverly didn’t stay long in New Orleans and joined the Raptors
Dorian Finney-Smith also got out of New Orleans quickly and joined Detroit.
Bismack Biyombo left Charlotte for the Suns
Jusuf Nurkic chose to join the rebuilding effort in Miami, leaving Portland.

Good recap of the moves I like the pics of the teams with ratings helps as a new reader. Lillard to Boston would be a good fit as they can cover his defense.

Totally. Boston wasn't doing any better than 4th in the East with Tatum/Brown, and I think these moves gives them a shot to make the top 3. Smart is a good defender and Turner can protect the rim, but you are right that defense is a concern with Brown - of course, Kemba's defense wasn't all that great either.

Looking back, I feel good about the trade for Boston and Portland and I feel a bit neutral for Indiana. The Pacers were basically treading water and I hope that they show something this year.

Yea it's a great fit for Lillard bc if he leaves it seems like it would be for a team with a shot to win a ring. They have enough defense with Smart, Tatum and Turner so that frees Lillard to score 25 a night.

Portland can start a rebuild and Brown / Sabonis are both young enough to wait it for a few years if need be. Brogdon is older than you think still he can be moved if they aren't playing well.

Indiana is a bit of a wait and see approach. It looks like Kemba is highly rated with the 4* trade value. I would think they are still a playoff team if not maybe they become sellers at the deadline and get younger.

Yeah, Indiana probably treaded water with the trade, but we'll see - maybe the fit of Kemba, CJ, Warren, and more of a role player frontcourt equals more success.

I am not sure how all the scorers in New Orleans will fit together, but the frontcourt of Zion + Stewart is tantalizing and they have guards that can score. Moving Adams for Oladipo was hopefully a win-win trade. I think that Pacers fans will probably love McCollum and Adams too.

Loved the Dinko and Oggy camp. Also, Oggy quietly got his first win in this series over his brother. Obviously, it's not a part of the Drago Derby so it doesn't count but he probably felt that was a good way to end camp.

Stetson looks primed to reach the conference tourney once again. There's some great new and old talent on the team.

Ha - you're right, he did get one over his brother. Not a derby, but a decent sign. I agree - I like the roster Stetson has, especially if Evertson can be the shooter we expect him to be.

                          St. Francis 2022-23 Season Preview

Coming off two straight conference tourney titles and major NCAA tournament upsets, expectations and excitement in Loretto are higher than they’ve been for decades. Despite losing Muhamed Payne, this is arguably Dinko’s deepest and most talented team to yet which means higher expectations and more pressure. The Red Flash lack the top end talent of other NEC teams but go 8 deep without any drop off in talent, which is more than what most of those teams can say.

                          Projected Lineup

At least to start the season, Dinko has decided to prioritize shooting in his starting five, putting freshman Tanoris Houston at point, shifting Gerardo Bethel to the two and making Stephane Diakite and Willis Holman the first two subs off the bench. Depending on how the season goes, coach Kostadin may need to switch up his rotations and bring Stephane Diakite back in as a starter, but this is how he’ll be starting the year.

With the addition of Floyd Akindele, Holman, Taj Hailey, and Chris Thompson, Dinko has decided to redshirt two players so they can focus on learning and growing: Fernandez Markovic and Geary Doss. Von Felder will likely get a few minutes as a backup big and walk on redshirt freshman Tron Torbert may see some playing time as well. With three scholarships and Gerardo Bethel being a senior, Dinko will be looking to get more shooting and another big man with his available scholarships.

                          Season Projection
Central Connecticut State brings back every single starter from last year’s team that went 15-3 in conference and will be strong contenders to repeat this year. They don’t have any superstars, but their top 8 consists of 7 seniors and a sophomore, including Tommy Victor (SG, 69 ovr), Walter Wheless (PG, 69 ovr), and Dana Ravello (PF, 68 ovr). Rising up the power rankings is Long Island, who are full of young talent. Their best 4 players are freshman Dallas Perry (PF, 74 ovr), sophomores Jeremie Lalugba (C, 71 ovr) and Eto Fitzgerald (SF, 70 ovr), and junior Germain Dalgarn (SF, 70 ovr). They haven’t shown a consistent ability to win games, only winning 7, 8, and 7 games over the last 3 seasons, but perhaps this is the beginning of a new era in NYC.

Two years removed from winning the conference, Wagner is looking to rebound from their “first-to-worst” 2021 season and get back to being a conference power. They are led by sophomore Patricio Stevenson (SF, 70 ovr) and should be a competitive team. St. Francis is a very talented team, but their top 8 rotation consists of 1 senior, 3 freshman, and 4 sophomores, so consistency could be an issue.

Here are the best of the best in the NEC.

Daymond Salazar, SF, Fairleigh Dickinson (78 ovr) is not outstanding in any area, but is just good enough in all areas to be a key contributor on both sides of the ball for the Knights.

Tamsir Grady, C, Mount St. Mary’s (76 ovr) averaged 10 points per game last year, but saw his rebounds drop from 8 to less than 6. He’ll need to improve his scoring output in year 3, as he’s never scored more than 15 points in a game. He has great touch around the basket and on his midrange shots and is a solid athlete.

Dallas Perry, PF, Long Island (74 ovr) is a three-star recruit out of the Bronx, and looks to be the centerpiece of Long Island’s program for the next four years. The 6’7” 193 lb forward is thin and lanky, but is a great leaper and shot blocker and is good enough offensively to be a threat.

Small victory, but I verified this morning that the 2K20 server shutdown did not impact my Bulgarian Brothers saves. The server shut down killed my 92-93 Hornets dynasty and left a bad taste in my mouth. I'd been a bit nervous the last few days just in case I did something wrong or 2K changed things.

Glad I got my 2 expansion teams in before the server shutdown.

glad to see they didn't shut them down. So what are your expectations for this year ?

Me too. 2K can shut the servers down, but please don't break my saves!

Both brothers' teams are tough for me to predict. From a talent perspective, they should be competing for a regular seasom title. However, both are heavily reliant on freshman, which will likely make them inconsistent. I think a top 5 finish is acceptable for both brothers, anything worse will be a disappointment, especially for Oggy who arguably has the best frontcourt in the Atlantic Sun.
