NBA reacts to Adonis Carter's record-breaking debut

New York Knicks forward Adonis Carter led a valiant effort in his career debut, leading the Knicks to a slim victory over the Memphis Grizzlies.

      Oct. 28, 2020 | Associated Press

NEW YORK, NY - Since he was the number one high school recruit in the country, being courted by highly touted universities like Duke, Louisville, and Kentucky, the whole basketball world knew that Adonis Carter was going to be a special player one day.

When he committed and enrolled to Duke University, playing under legendary head coach Mike Krzyzewski, this thought was further exemplified on his way to winning the Naismith Trophy as basketball's top player.

The New York Knicks gambled and traded for the number one pick in the 2020 NBA Draft to select him; wrapping the future of the franchise to the 19-year old small forward.

Last night, playing against the defensive and gritty Memphis Grizzlies squad that is led by the reigning Rookie of the Year, Ja Morant, Carter was given his first opportunity to show what he's made of.

      Boy, did he show it.

Through pull-up jumpers, and blitzing down the lane with a force we've only seen from a handful of veteran stars, Carter bullied the Grizzlies all night long, putting up an eye-popping 47 points on 19 of 30 shooting. He added in six rebounds and four assists, as well as a key block of Jaren Jackson Jr. late in the game.

"When you're hot, you're hot. You just got to keep playing your game, and my teammates made it a priority to feed me. I appreciate them and how hard they worked to trust me. This was a tight game, and I'm glad we were able to come out with the dub." - Adonis Carter on his record-breaking performance
On October 24th, 1959, Wilt Chamberlain set the established record of most points in a player's first game, scoring 43 points for the Philadelphia Warriors. Ironically, the team he was playing against was the New York Knicks.

"I definitely wasn't gunning for it - it wasn't a record I was even aware of," Carter commented post-game when notified that he had broken the record. "But, Wilt is a legend, and to be able to be in his company is something I'll be able to tell my kids one day."

Stars around the league took notice of the young star's mind-blowing start.

"47 points?? This kid is CRAZY" - San Antonio Spurs forward DeMar DeRozan via his Twitter account
"Adonis Carter, man. Remember that name" - Retired NBA legend Dwyane Wade.
"Mama, there goes A BAD MAN" - Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson
Carter and the Knicks will travel to Boston for their first divisional matchup against Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics.

Adonis Carter to miss "a few games"

              Nov. 14, 2020 | Associated Press

NEW YORK, NY - New York Knicks head coach David Fizdale announced that star forward Adonis Carter will not be in the lineup for the next few games with a bicep injury he suffered last night against the Memphis Grizzlies.

The Knicks will be heading to Los Angeles today for their game against LeBron James and the defending NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers - a marquee matchup of James and the first overall pick in this draft.

That matchup will have to wait.

"It's unfortunate, and he was definitely looking forward to playing against that team. But, this is a long season and he's going to get his opportunity soon. He wants to be a part of how we fix this losing culture" -David Fizdale on Adonis Carter's injury.
The New York Knicks, after rousing victories over the likes of the Grizzlies, Milwaukee Bucks, and the Miami Heat, are currently in the midst of a three-game slide.

Carter is expected to join the team on their upcoming road trip that begins in Los Angeles and includes games against Golden State, Oklahoma City, and Houston before returning home for a matchup against Trae Young and the Atlanta Hawks.

Carter was not made available for comment, but Coach Fizdale has not yet ruled him out for any of the games while they are away.

Mario Hezonja will be thrust into Carter's spot in the starting lineup.

Nov. 23, 2020 - Madison Square Garden, New York, NY

Not only did Trae Young dump the Knicks for 45 points, but Jordan Clarkson also bullied the likes of Adonis Carter and R.J. Barrett all night long.

Dec. 2, 2020 - Madison Square Garden, New York, NY

Despite an extremely slow start to the game, Kevin Durant showed the young Knicks squad who KD really is.

Before this last batch of games, the sim gods really weren't showing you any love.. The Duke duo between Adonis and RJ will be fun in NY. Hopefully a solid pickup in the next draft and NY could be rolling.

Yeah, we've had an awful stretch to start things off. All of our shooters are fairly streaky and Adonis getting hurt definitely didn't help.

                          Thanks for checking in!

In the first matchup between Adonis Carter and the Charlotte Hornets, who could have selected him in the draft - Carter got the last laugh.

Roster is definitely a work in progress. We're going to wait deeper into the season before shaking things up.
