Breaking: New York Knicks acquire Kelly Oubre Jr. from Phoenix

Dec. 26, 2020 | Associated Press

NEW YORK, NY - The New York Knicks announced this afternoon that they have acquired forward Kelly Oubre Jr. from the Phoenix Suns for forward Julius Randle. The Suns added an unprotected second-round pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.

Oubre Jr. has reportedly grown tired of his time in Phoenix after being traded to the team from the Washington Wizards during the 2018-19 season. The 25-year old scorer is currently averaging 13.5 points per game on 40% shooting from the field and his contract is expiring at the end of the season.

Rumblings had come out of New York that Randle, 26, had grown displeased with falling all the way to being the fourth scoring option for the Knicks behind the likes of Adonis Carter, Andre Drummond, and R.J. Barrett.

Randle is currently averaging 12.6 points per game, 6.6 rebounds per game, and is shooting a little over 50% from the field in his second season since signing with the Knicks in 2019. Randle is in the final year of his contract and is expecting to hit free agency at the end of the season.
