LOS ANGELES, CA

The Phoenix Suns are looking to follow their season-opening win against the Denver Nuggets by beating the Los Angeles Lakers. Since the Suns deploy a small lineup, the Lakers sixe will pose some problems. At the power forward position, the Suns start 6'6" Jae Crowder. Despite being a great defender, the veteran forward is at a disadvantage when going against Lakers power forward Anthony Davis.

At 6'10" and weighing 253 pounds, Davis is much bigger than many of the power forwards in today's NBA. That gives him a big advantage around the rim and should help the Lakers in rebounding as well. With veteran big man Dwight Howard as part of the Lakers frontcourt, that gives this team an intimidating presence in the paint.

BOSTON, MA

Toronto Raptors' point guard Fred VanVleet went undrafted in the 2016 NBA Draft. Several years later, the 6'1" guard out of Wichita State is an NBA champion and the face of a franchise. When the team needed their franchise player against the Boston Celtics on Friday night, he delivered.

It wasn't easy though as VanVleet went scoreless in the first half as the Raptors scored 41 points on 38 percent shooting. Fortunately, the Celtics only had a two point lead with the Raptors defense did just enough to keep them in the game.

The Celtics' star wing tandem of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown were a combined 13-of-32 for 30 points in the loss to their division rival. This despite a strong first quarter where the Raptors were held to 14 points on 29 percent shooting. Veteran big man Al Horford was a major part of the first quarter outburst as he scored 11 points.

Raptors' point guard VanVleet had an outburst of his own, scoring 17 of his 22 points in the third quarter. In that frame, the Raptors outscored the Celtics by 10 and went 6-of-11 from beyond the arc. The Celtics didn't shoot well from the perimeter in that quarter or for the entire game. The Raptors made as many three's in the third quarter as the Celtics did in the entire game.

The Celtics did manage to get within two points with a little more than three minutes left in the game. Timely plays on both offense and defense denied the Celtics any opportunity to gain the lead in the closing minutes of the game. This was topped off by a VanVleet three from the left wing that put the Raptors up 91-84 with 55 seconds left in the game.

The 2-0 Raptors will look to continue their winning streak when they head back home to take on the Dallas Mavericks. The Celtics will play the first of a back-to-back set when they travel to Texas to face the Houston Rockets.

The size of the Los Angeles Lakers proved to be a problem for the Phoenix Suns in Friday night's loss. The Suns were outrebounded 58-43 even with center Deandre Ayton's game-high 12 rebounds. The Suns had more problems than just rebounds as they were outscored in the paint by nearly 20 points. The Suns also did a poor job of making their free throws, going 11-of-18 at the stripe.

The Lakers didn't do any better at the free throw line, converting only 56 percent of their attempts. However, the Lakers outperformed the Suns in almost every other category. The Lakers frontcourt of Anthony Davis and Dwight Howard combined for 19 rebounds. Howard had a team-high 11 rebounds with four of them being on the offensive glass.

Udonis Haslem has played his entire NBA career, nearly two decades, with the same team.

Not many players get to play for one organization for their entire NBA career. Those odds most likely drop a lot when you're talking about a role player. Udonis Haslem is one of those rare players who got to do the former.

After going undrafted in 2002 NBA Draft, Haslem played in France. The following season, Haslem was signed by the Miami Heat. During his tenure with the team 500 of the 868 games played and averaged 7.5 points and 6.8 rebounds.

In his 18 years with the Heat, Haslem had won three NBA championships. The first one came in the 2005-06 season where the Dwyane Wade and Shaquille O'Neal-led Heat beat Dirk Nowitzki and theDallas Mavericks. The next two came in consecutive seasons during the "Big 3" era of LeBron James, Chris Bosh and Wade. The Heat defeated an Oklahoma City Thunder team that featured blossoming talents like Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook and James Harden. The Heat then followed that championship run by defeating a San Antonio Spurs team led by Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili.

Though Haslem has not played many minutes in the last several seasons, he has been an important veteran voice on the bench. After the Finals loss to the Spurs in the 2013-14 season, the Heat have had varying degrees of success. Through it all Haslem has been a steadying presence for a Heat team that saw many changes. With Haslem retiring, his nearly two decades with the Heat will be something that may not be replicated anywhere around the NBA.

Tough loss against Toronto, but with a team that's going to want to play fast in Houston up next, maybe the Celtics offense will get the chance to raise that scoring average, offense is opening the season a little rusty lol
