    TOURNAMENT UPDATE

    ROUND 1 & 2

Round 1 didn't offer a tough of upsets but did create a few interesting stories to follow.

#10 Wisconsin for the 2nd year in a row upset a higher seed beating #6 Cincinnati but fell to #3 George Washington (77-71) meaning the Colonials are advancing to the Sweet 16.

#12 UAB upset #5 Arkansas (78-76) in the opening round but the Blazers came out flat in the 2nd round losing to #4 UConn (88-57)

#11 Temple beat A-10 conference rival #6 Rhode Island (85-77) but fell to #3 UCLA (96-63) in Round 2.

#10 Loyola MD upset #7 Syracuse and looks to be this year Cinderella story as they went on to beat #2 Lousiville (82-81) outscoring the Cardinals (43-35) in the 2nd half. The Greyhounds will advance to the Sweet Sixteen for the first time in school history and face #3 UCLA.

#4 Kansas State won their opener and then defeated #5 Oklahoma (93-92) to secure a Sweet 16 matchup with #1 Notre Dame who cruised through their opening 2 rounds.

#6 Arizona beat #3 BYU (91-89) as P. Anrin puts up a double double with 29 points and 10 rebounds and S. Lovelace added 20 points.

The Wildcats will now have a rematch with BSU. The Broncos beat Arizona in their final non-conference game of the year (100-69) so I am sure Arizona will be looking for some revenge.

Here is a look at the Sweet 16 matchups.

#1 North Carolina vs #4 Tennesse
    #3 George Washington vs #2 Texas A&M

#1 Michigan State vs #5 Texas
    #2 Villanova vs #3 Duke

    #1 Clemson vs #4 UConn
#3 UCLA vs #10 Loyola MD

#1 Notre Dame vs #4 Kansas State
#2 Boise State vs #6 Arizona

      BRONCOS 3-PEAT!!!

For the 3rd straight year #2 Boise State is headed to the Elite 8 as they crush the Arizona Wildcats for a 2nd time this season.

BSU led by just 4 points in the 1st half going into the locker room up (42-38) despite their leading scorer C. Toumou scoring just 6 points.

Toumou would continue to struggle still dealing with a back injury and foul trouble in the 2nd half as he finished the game with just 9 points but once again the duo of R. Pekkola and V.. Robinson were huge off the bench as the Broncos outscore the Wildcats (56-39) in the 2nd half falling just 2 points from matching the century mark victory (98-77)

With Toumou out it was V. Rasmussen once again taking up the slack and POG honors with 18 points, 10 rebounds and a season/career high 6 blocks.

      D. Nagata and C. Moore combined for 18 pts, 11 rebounds and 13 assists as the starting backcourt duo but it was R. Pekkola coming up big again hitting 4/5 from 3pt to score 15 pts off the bench.

      V. Robinson did a great job filling in for Toumou as he finished with 11 pts and 8 rebounds.

For Arizona, Anrin has his 2nd straight back to back game with 16 points and 11 rebounds well S. Lovelace (14 pts and C. Chapman (17 pts) also scored double digits. Chapman was 5/7 from 3pt but starting Senior SG B. Boudin was just 1/8 as he finished with 9 pts an 8 rebounds in his final college game.

Anrin also a Seniors is considered a Lottery/1st round pick well Boudin is projected for the 2nd round.

Lovelace (Freshman) and Chapman (Soph) will join starting center H. McKowen (Junior) as 3 starters will return to make a run at it next year.

        BRONCOS MAKE HISTORY!!

For the 3rd time in his career Coach Scott has guided Boise State to a victory over the #1 seed beating Michigan State as a #9 seed 2 years ago in the 2nd round and beating #1 Duke last season. Now they can add #1 Notre Dame as the Broncos advance to the Final 4 for the 1st time in school history....

After scoring 98 in their win over Arizona in the Sweet 16 round, you could say this was a defensive battle.

BSU lead (38-37) at the half but would managed just 28 points in the 2nd half, but the positive news was the Irish would score just 27 as BSU wins the game (66-64) dominating the game from the free throw line.

Neither team was shooing the ball well from beyond the Arc. BSU would go just 3/22 well Notre Dame was 7/24 but the Broncos shined hitting 21/27 from the charity stripe well limiting the Irish to just 14 free attempts (11/14).

        C. Toumou after struggling the past 2 games bounces back to lead the team with 16 points well grabbing 5 rebounds and picking up 3 steals. V. Rasmussen added 10 pts 5 rebounds and a team high 5 blocks as he once again dominates the post.

        J. Moore added 11 pts despite going just 1/5 from 3pt.

          FINAL 4 IS SET

          SWEET 16 RESULTS

          #1 UNC 95 #4 Tennessee 70

          #3 George Washington 87 #2 Texas A&M 61

          #5 Texas 92 #1 Michigan State 89

          #3 Duke 80 #2 Villanova 60

          #1 Clemson 86 #4 UConn 77

          #3 UCLA 86 #10 Loyola MD 55

          #1 Notre Dame 88 #4 Kansas State 62

          ELITE 8

          #1 UNC 106 #3 George Washington 104

          #3 Duke 92 #5 Texas 75

          #3 UCLA 76 #1 Clemson 72

The Final 4 is set #1 UNC vs #3 Duke in a ACC showdown were the winner gets a chance to play for the National Title. The Blue Devils are 0-2 this season against the Tar Heels but it's been a proven fact it's really hard to beat a really good team 3 times in the same season.

For Boise State, UCLA is a very familiar opponent. Coach Scott owns a 4-2 record against the Bruins in his coaching career including a (65-54) win inside Pauley Pavillion this season. You have to figure that the Trio of Bruin Senior starters are fired up for this rematch.

6'6 SG O Hooper enters the game averaging 17.2 PPG, well 6'4 guard K. Newman (15.3 PPG) and Center C. Reese (12.5 PPG) give them a balance attack. Hooper and Newman are considered lottery picks well Reese despite under sized at 6'6 is still a 1st round pick.

BOISE STATE TO PLAY FOR CHIP!!!

UCLA will have to wait for their revenge, as Boise State beats the Bruins for a 2nd time this season ending UCLA's quest for a 13th National Title in 19 trips to the Final 4.

BSU jumped out to a early 6 point lead and actually held that lead throughout the 1st half going into the locker room up (37-31). UCLA tried to shoo their way back into the game in the 2nd half but the plan backfired as the Bruins went just 2/16 from 3pt after going 5/8 in the 1st half.

SR PG L. Tyler would finish the game 0/6 from deep and score just 4 pts, but his fellow Senior's K. Newman (17 pts 7 reb 2/6 3pt) and O. Hooper (28 pts 6 reb 2/5 3pt) played well in their final game.

For BSU the shots were falling as the Broncos finish the night 12/23 from beyond the arc as they outscore the Bruins (48-39) in the 2nd half to win the game by 15. Final Score (85-70),

For Boise State it was C. Toumou taking the POG honors as he scores a team high 20 pts. V. Rasmussen added 12 pts and 8 rebounds well Senior D. Nagata added 6 pts and 7 assists.

Freshman PG W. Blancett had a career night scoring a season high 13 pts as he goes a perfect 3/3 from deep. Junior Vytas Robinson continues to play well in the tournament as he scores 10 points. Robinson a former 2* listed at 6'9 234lb has carved out a bigger role giving Coach Scott a opportunity to stretch the floor with his 3pt ability (1/1 tonight).

DUKE OUT SHOOTS TARHEELS TO EARN THEIR SPOT IN FINAL!!

The Duke Blue Devils have upset #1 seed UNC to earn the other spot in the Championship game leaving it a matchup of #3 vs #2.

Duke led (45-43) at the half and outscored UNC (50-42) on their way to the (95-85) victory.

For UNC's 4 Senior starters it was a bitter end to a very amazing year (33-5). For Duke it's a chance at a 4th National Title also with a veteran lineup that has 3 Seniors and 2 Juniors.

Duke's roster is loaded with talent. Their starting 5 are rated (89,89,89,88,88). Their top 3 reserves are al Juniors rated 84 or better and all are projected as potential 2nd round picks with the entire starting lineup picked to go Lottery or 1st Round.

If there is one thing that Duke lacks it's a true Center. 6''8 PF Alton Atkins leads the team in scoring at 16.4 PPG. The key to winning could be to have Toumou and Rasmussen get him into early foul trouble.

Good look in the championship game Broncos. Is it officially time to start calling Boise a basketball school now?

                DAVID SLAYS GOLIATH!!

For Coach Scott and the Boise State Broncos, the dream has become a real. Trailing (48-43) at the half the Broncos rallied back to tie the game (80-80) with under a minute to play.

Duke would hit the go ahead bucket to make it (82-80) but BSU responds with a huge 3pt shot from Freshman W. Blancett to take the lead for the first time in the the final 10 minutes of the game making it (83-82). Duke would respond with their own 3pt shot as Junior Elvin Kim scores to give him 23 points on the night and a double double to 10 rebounds, but Scott and the Broncos were unfazed. Rather then go for the tie and play in Overtime, Scoot trusted his team and his shooters as Blancett hit's his 2nd 3pt of the night giving BSU the lead with under 5 seconds to play. Duke would heave up a final shot but the ball would fall short as the Broncos are your 2012-2013 National Champion. Final Scott BSU-86 Duke-85

For BSU it was the final night for 6'5 PG Dominic Nagata. A 4 year starter from Tucson Arizona and Coach Scott's 1st recruit to sign at BSU, didn't have a great night finishing with just 9 points as he goes 3/10 FG (1/8 3pt) but the man who is set to replace him in the starting lineup it was a different night all together.

5'10 Wade Blancett was a 4* recruit rated #57 Overall from San Rafeal CA when he signed with BSU. Blancett saw limited action appearing in all 37 games but produced when he was in averaging 5.3 PPG, and 2.9 APG well shooting over 40% from deep (29/65). Blancett's back to back 3's would see him finish with 8 pts on the night to go along with a team high 4 assists.

BSU star and leading scorer C. Toumou early foul trouble saw him finish with just 9 pts on 2/9 FG but JR V. Rasmussen would come up big in his absence with 11 pts and 10 rebounds and V. Robinson again would play a huge role off the bench with 15 pts (4/5 FG, 1/1 3pt, 6/7 FT).

                    OFF-SEASON NEWS

                    COACH SCOTT

Coach Ryne Scott finished up his 4th season as the Broncos Head Coach capping it off with the schools first National Championships after 2 previous years of finishing in the Elite 8. Scott just 32 years old with 6 seasons under his belt (2 at UCR) has compiled a (164-43) record with his worst record coming in 2008-2009 when the Highlanders went 20-10 and lost in the 1st round of the NCAA tournament. In 2009-2010, Scott led the Broncos to a Sweet Sixteen in hist first year at BSU with the Broncos finishing the year 23-10.

Since that 10 round loss season, BSU has in the past 3 years gone 96-12.

Obviously with such a proven track record, Coach Scott was #1 on every school looking to replace their Head Coach this season.

Syracuse called hoping Scott would take the reigns from Jim Boeheim but instead they will turn to former Creighton HC Greg McDermott.

St John's called hoping Scott would come help rebuild a program that went just 1-17 in the Big East and 5-24 last season. Rumors are Scott did actually take the interview and met with the team, but left New York without a contract.

Reports are South Carolina called, as did both Penn State and Iowa in the Big Ten, but a the end of the day, Scott is still the BSU HC.

Scott announced he is extending his contract for another 2 seasons and then will decide if he is going to pursue furthering his dreams at a bigger school or if the plan is to stay and build Boise State into another Gonzaga type program that dominates in conference and is still competitive with the best of the best across the nation.

                    BRONCOS ADD 3 IN RECRUITING

Boise State said goodbye to 4 year guard Dominic Nagata and learned that redshirt PG Boris Surov a 4* Recruit from Finland is returning home to start his career overseas, leaving Coach Scott thin a the PG spot.

So in comes 3* Francisco Sessoms. Listed at 6'3 200 lbs, Sessoms was the Idaho Gatorade POY (Mr BB) from Idaho Falls. Rated #258 Overall and the #76 PG in this year's class, Sessoms had scholarships from Idaho State, Utah State and Utah Valley State.

Joining Sessoms are 2 more combo guards both rated in the Top-40 in the nation, as Coach Scott pulls down the #19 Overall class.

6'2 Luke Morgan (#34 Overall/#12 SG) is from Santa Clara CA well 6'7 Evan Traore was this year's Mr BB from Mesa AZ. Traore was rated #38 Overall and the #14 SG in this year's class.

                    Coach Scott
"Despite losing Nagata and Surov, I feel our pretty solid about our guard rotation next year with Blancett,Moore,Pekkola playing major minutes. We also have 6'6 Lebron Siebrandt and 6'5 Dyron Bennett who both will see time at the #2 guard, we will see how these guy's play over the summer but odd's are we will stick to out 10 man rotation and this guy's will most likely have a year to develop and carve out future roll's.

                    AWARDS

Despite a National Title, the Broncos received no national awards as the North Carolina HC takes Coach of the Year honors.

Instead Coach Scott will be left with his 4th straight WAC COY award.

JR Vernon Rasmussen finished the year averaging 11.3 PPG, 5.6 RPG 1.0 SPG, 1.9 BPG and takes WAC 1st team honors at PF.

Out going SR PG D. Nagata was named to the 2nd team All-Conference averaging 10.1 PPG, 2.1 RPG, 4.9 APG and 1.2 SPG. It was the 3rd time Nagata has earned 2nd team honors along with his WAC FOY in 2009-2010.

Joining him in the 2nd team is RS SO 6'10 Center Cory Toumou. Last year's WAC Freshman of the Year and the NCAA Freshman of the year as wel as Freshman All-American and Conference, stepped up his game this year finishing with a team best 15.9 PPG, 6.8 RPG, 1.7 SPG and 1.7 BPG after a 13.3, 6.2 1.5, 1.2 season last year.

                    Scott
"Cory is a special player. He get overlooked because he was just a 3* (Rated #131/#21) Mr BB from Boise Idaho, but this kid has the talent to play for any school in the nation. To be honest he is a big reason, I am returning and a big reason why I believe we have a chance to make another run at a title before he leaves. "

                      SEASON PREVIEW

                      TOP-25

Boise State finished with a 35-2 record on their way to their National Title finishing the year in the Top-10 and earning a #2 seed in the NCAA tournament. This year the Broncos will start the year ranked #18 with the team they beat (Duke) ranked in the #1 spot.

Here is a look at the Top-25

                      #1 Duke
                      #2 Louisville
                      #3 Texas
                      #4 Michigan State
                      #5 Clemson
                      #6 USC
                      #7 UConn
                      #8 Wisconsin
                      #9 UNC
                      #10 Florida
                      #11 Georgia Tech
                      #12 UCLA
                      #13 Villanova
                      #14 Tennessee
                      #15 Kentucky
                      #16 Texas A&M
                      #17 Cal
                      #18 Boise State
                      #19 Notre Dame
                      #20 Syracuse
                      #21 Pitt
                      #22 Cincinnati
                      #23 West Virginia
                      #24 Kansas State
                      #25 Oklahoma State

                      8 Big East teams, 4 Big 12, 4 ACC, 3 Pac-10 3 SEC and 2 Big Ten, 1 WAC

Pretty crazy not to see any other Mid-Major or Major teams join the Top-25 with BSU. Big East looks stacked one again but only 2 teams in the Top-10 vs the ACC that has 4 of the Top-11. Will be interesting to see what conference comes away with the #1 RPI and who #1 is at the end of the season after they beat up on each other.

                      NON-CONFERENCE PLAY

Boise State and Coach Scott will look to defend their National Title and make another run with a 12 game non-conference schedule with all 12 being played on the West Coast and and half of them at home in Boise. The schedule includes all 3 Pac-10 teams in the Top-25 to start including a rematch with #12 UCLA on the road on December 28th and #6 USC on the road the day after Christmas. Here is a look at the full schedule.

11/10 Season Opener vs Portland State
                      11/12 vs San Diego State
                      11/16 vs San Francisco
                      11/23 vs TCU
                      11/25 @ Stanford
                      11/30 @ Arizona State
                      12/7 @ Oregon State
                      12/11 @ BYU
                      12/15 vs Oregon
                      12/18 vs #17 Cal
                      12/26 @ #6 USC
                      12/28 @ UCLA

**This is the schedule the CPU gave me. The only thing I changed was BYU on the road to make it 6 home games and 6 away games.**

                      THE ROSTER

9 players return with just 4 year starter D. Nagata moving on from the 10 man rotation. International 4* B. Survov left the team after redshirting last year leaving former Mr BB (Minnesota) 4* Lebron Siebrandt as the lone added player to the 10-man rotation. Siebrandt is a 6'6 SG/SF rated 77 Overall with 73 3PT. He will battle 6'5 SO Dyron Bennett (75 OVR/80 3PT) for the chance to take the starting SF spot next year unless Coach Scott brings in a instant starter in the recruiting class.

Luke Morgan (76/86), Evan Traore (72/72) and F. Sessoms (64/69) will all redshirt this year with Morgan looking like a potential starter at SG next year if J. Moore decides to turn pro early.

Here is a look at the starters and the rest of the bench rotation.

                      PG- 5'10 RS SO Wade Blancett (79 Overall/89 3PT)
Blancett came up big hitting the final 2 shots to give BSU their title. Now he has a chance to prove he deserves this shot at starting. He averaged 5.3 PPG, 2.9 APG and shot 46% from 3pt last season.

                      SG- 6'7 JR Jeremy Moore (85 Overall/80 3PT)
The former 5* is considered the best player on the team but he has yet to show his full potential. He currently has 1st Round Draft status in next year's NBA Draft. Moore averaged 7.2 PPG, 3.9 RPG, 3.4 APG and 1.4 SPG last season well shooting 38% from 3pt.

                      SF-6'9 SR Isiah Dilligard (82 Overall/81 3PT)
"Dilligard averaged 8.4 PPG as a reserve his first 2 seasons at BSU earning a starting role that saw him average 8.9 PPG, 3.3 RPG, 1.2 APG and 1.0 SPG last season starting all 37 games. After hittting 44/96 (46%) from 3PT as a Freshman, Dilligard hit just 39% last season (45/113).

                      PF-6'8 Veron Rasmussen (83 Overall/75 3PT)
"Rasmussen just keeps getting better and is considered a Dark Horse status for next year's NBA draft to start the year, so you can expect he is looking to raise his stock to at least 2nd Round. He has averaged double digits in points the past 2 years as a starter and showed he ability to knock down the occasional 3pt shot hitting 34% last year (31/91)

C-6'10 RS JR Cory Toumou (79 Overall)
He isn't the highest rated player on the team, but he plays like he is. He finished the year with a 15.9 PPG, 6.8 RPG, 1.7 SPG and 1.7 BPG after a stellar Freshman season that saw him win the NCAA FOY. Toumou is on the quest now for a WAC POY honors and a NCCA All-American status.

                      PG/SG 6'5 RS JR Roburt Pekkola (78 Overall/81 3PT)
Pekkola played his way into the 6th man role last season and thrived. The former Walk on Averaged 9.1 PPG, 2.1 RPG, 1.5 APG, and hit 52% of his 3's (64/122). Look for him to continue his role this year splitting minutes with Blancett and Moore and probably playing starter type minutes.

                      PF/C 6'11 SO Harold Hampton (78 Overall)
Hampton battled a few injuries as a true freshman but still managed a solid season averaging 7.6 PPG, 3.6 RPG and 0.9 BPG.

                      SF/PF/C-6'9 RS SR Vvtas Robinson (73 Overall/71 3PT)
"Robinson shined in the tournament averaging over 10 PPG and was a key reserve last year. After averaging 4.4 PPG his previous 2 seasons, Robinson finished last year with a 7.7 PPG and 4.1 RPG, despite playing the least amount of minutes on the team (averaged around 9). He also shot 48% from 3PT (17/35) after making 14/40) the previous 2 years.

Love the close ones. It's a heart breaker some times ,but that's what makes the game so much fun to play sometimes.

Thank you and yes, Blancett is actually my highest rated 3pt shooter and honestly when given more PT I think will actually be a better scorer then Nagata was. Moore is still a huge ? I just can't seem to find a role for him on offense, but main offense really is Toumou and Rasmussen down low and kick out to guy's for the open 3.. I would actually just like to cheese a little next year though and have Toumou be a guy who averages over 20 PPG and make make a run at WAC POY and a All-American POY n his final 2 seasons. Once he is gone I will probably look at some Big East or hopefully a Pac-10 offer will come up

BRONCOS KICKOFF TITLE DEFENSE WITH 4 STRAIGHT HOME WINS!!!

People in Boise Idaho know just now good the Boise State Broncos are but the nation is starting to take notice that there is another Mid-Major Power on the Westcoast.

BSU returns 9 players from a 35 win season just a year ago and shows they are ready to make another run at it again as they average over 100 points in their 4 game homestand with a impressive 31.5 point per victory margin.

GAME 1 VS PORLTAND STATE (100-61)

The Broncos dominated both halves outscoring the Vikings (59-33) in the 1st and then again (41-28) in the 2nd.

It was the battle of the twin towers on both teams as 6'10 JR C. Toumou take POG honors with 31 points 6 rebounds and 4 steals well 6'11 SO H. Hampton added 23 points off the bench.

For PSU 6'11 Mikel Take led the team with 10 points and 8 rebounds, well 6'11 FR Nile McCully had 9 pts and 4 rebounds in the loss.

GAME 2 VS SAN DIEGO STATE (97-67)

The Aztec's kept things a little closer in the 1st half trailing (46-34) but BSU didn't let up the gas as they drop 51 points in the 2nd half.

6'8 PF Vernon Rasmussen takes POG honors from Toumou as he leads the team with 24 points and 7 rebounds and 2 blocks, but Cory Toumou still had a solid game with 21 pts 5 rebounds 4 steals and 2 blocks.

JR SG Ray Pekkola added 19 pts off the bench hitting 4/6 from 3pt, well SO PG W. Blancett making his 2nd start had 7 pts (2/6 3pt) with a team high 9 assists.

6'9 SO G. Wallace led the Aztec's with 22 pts and 7 rebounds in the loss but was just 3/7 from 3pt.

GAME 3 VS SAN FRANCISCO (110-62)

A season high 64 points in the 1st half led to a season high 110 points as BSU has 6 players (4 starters and 2 reserves hit double digits).

Former 5* Recruit Jeremy Moore had a season/career high 20 points to go with 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 steals as he takes POG honors.

                              W. Blancett added 9 pts (3/6 3pt) and tied Moore with a team high 6 assists.

                              GAME 4 VS TCU (99-80)

BSU led (57-33) at the half but TCU didn't just roll over, they actually outscored BSU (47-42) in the 2nd half to cut the loss to under 20 points.

TCU finished the night 13/27 from 3pt with 4 players scoring in double digits 6 different players hitting from deep.

For BSU it was Cory Toumou taking the POG honors with a team high 23 points 4 rebounds and 4 steals, but V. Rasmussen was right their adding 22 pts hitting 4/5 from deep.

                                CARDINALS SNAP BRONCS WIN STREAK!!

Boise State led (37-31) at the half and looked to be in control once again, but the Stanford Cardinals had something else in mind as they outscore the Broncos (52-40) in the 2nd half to had Boise State their first loss of the season.

The Cardinals finished the night 13/26 from deep with their Senior backcourt of I. Works (12 points, 6 rebounds 8 assists 4/5 3pt) and J. Shimonovic (11 points 10 rebounds 3/5 3pt) leading the way. 7'1 SR A. Tafo added 10 points as well.

                                Coach Scott
"Stanford is a very good team with 4 Seniors in their starting lineup from a team that won 17 games last year" The truth is we just didn't shoot the ball well tonight"
Boise State was just 6/16 from 3pt tonight a season low for them with only SO PG W. Blancett really finding a groove hitting 3/5 from deep to score a season high 11 points..

Cory Toumou had a double double in the loss with 27 points 10 rebounds and 4 Blocks.
