Re: 2018 Onward: Turning the Houston Texans Into a Winner

    Week 1 at the Chargers

The Chargers came out passing, but had a 3 and out on their opening drive. A terrible punt gave the Texans the ball in field goal range to start. The drive would go -1 yards, amounting only to a 53 yard field goal try. From the right, Duncan missed it wide left.

Off of that, the Chargers would throw 8 passes in a row moving into field goal range, but getting stopped short for a 30 yard field goal try. Jamal Avery from the left would shank it left, keeping the game scoreless.

The Texans would have a 3 and out. To the 2nd, the Chargers would get sacked out of field goal range and have to punt. The punt would land at the 3 yard line. The Texans run game struggled all day, but they amounted an 11 play drive (7 passes) to get a field goal try. From 46 yards, Duncan from the left hash hit the left goal post. Still 0-0.

On the Chargers next drive, Jahmar Sweeley would make a big interception over the middle, and two long passes later, the Texans were inside the 10. They would let the time tick down as they were at the two minute warning. The first two tries were runs, both short, and then the 3rd down pass try was a sack. Duncan would finally make a kick, from 26 yards, making it 3-0 with 34 seconds left.

The Chargers would complete one big pass, then timeout around midfield. On their 2nd play, they would be sacked, forcing their last timeout. They would complete one to the 36, but would run out of time. 3-0 at halftime.

The Texans would start with it in the 3rd, and move well through the air. 11 plays, 7 passes, 74 yards, getting a 3rd and goal touchdown on a 2 yard pass to Vernon Davis. 10-0.

The Chargers would then have a 3 and out. Once again, the Texans would start in field goal range. But Cody Withers would throw an interception to Mike Best, ending the drive.

The Chargers wouldn't go far, LaDainian Tomlinson would fumble (He had 5 carries all day) forced by Sweeley, and recovered by Nate Branch at the SD 43.

To the 4th quarter, it would take 6 plays for the Texans to add another touchdown, scoring on a QB sneak. 17-0. The Chargers would then put together a 14 play drive, getting as close as the HOU 11, but would end up with a turnover on downs.

After some time ran down, the Chargers would get it back late, and make it all the way to the 1 yard line, but would run out of time. A shutout to start the year, 17-0 final score.

Withers had 16-22, 201, 1 TD, 1 INT. Not liking the INT, but the pass game was solid. Hawkins had a 27 yard run, final total of 52 on 10 (Which looks good until you minus the one good run) Goldwire had 18 on 10.

Dontrell Dillinger was excellent in his debut, 7 catches, 106 yards. Vernon Davis had 5 catches for 43.

Defense would notch 8 sacks against the pass happy Chargers, only Mario Williams would have 2. Rivers was 26-47, 303, 1 INT. Tomlinson had 2 yards on 5 tries. Greg Jennings was their best WR, 11 catches, 146 yards.

Not a bad way to start the season. Buccaneers are up next.

Re: 2018 Onward: Turning the Houston Texans Into a Winner

Next up is traveling to Tampa Bay to face the Buccaneers, who always seem to do great on this game. They are currently coached by Bill Muir, who was their offensive coordinator under Gruden, and he has been their head coach entering his 6th year.

Trent Edwards has been their franchise QB for a quite a while now, but unfortunately for them, he suffered a torn ACL in the preseason, ending his season.

      QB Matt Moore (78)
      HB Darren McFadden (90)
      FB Carl Stewart (75)
WR Roy Williams (83) Anthony Gonzalez (83)
      TE Kevin Boss (84)
      T Sam Baker (86) Ordell Booker (89)
      G Aaron Sears (86) Davin Joseph (90)
      C Corey Sparks (84)

DE Calvin Foley (82) Gaines Adams (89)
DT Jarvis McCray (75) Shomari Washington (77)
OLB Xavier Adibi (80) Ernie Sims (87)
      MLB Barrett Ruud (87)
CB Cedric Griffin (83) Patrick Lee (81)
      S Tanard Jackson (86) Ray Branch (82)

Despite their success, I am 8-1 in my career against the Buccaneers.

Re: 2018 Onward: Turning the Houston Texans Into a Winner

        Week 2 at Tampa

It was a rainy and strange game. The opening kickoff would go out of bounds, and Tampa would end up with a 36 yard field goal to lead 3-0. After that, the Texans had a 12 play drive that ended in a 22 yard field goal.

Then, Darren McFadden fumbled on first down, forced and recovered by Tyrus Barber. One play later, the FS would completely bite a play-action, leaving Dillinger wide open for a 24 yard TD.

Tampa would then have a 3 and out, and to the 2nd, Dillinger would end up dropping a touchdown straight up on a 1st down. It would end up a 26 yard field goal.

Then, Moore would throw an interception to Tyrus Barber, which would set up a touchdown pass to Vernon Davis. Then, on back-to-back drives, the Buccaneers would throw pick sixes, the first a 51 yarder by Sanrick Raines, the 2nd a 32 yarder for Tyrus Barber. 34-3.

But then, with 1:38 left after a Tampa punt, Withers would hit Holyfield long for a 41 yard touchdown. Tampa would respond with a 7 play, 80 yard drive ending on a 1 yard scramble by Moore. But the Texans would fire deep, and Reggie Lemon would have a 53 yard touchdown.

        At the half, 49-10.

The Texans would have a 12 minute drive ending on a Poppy Brown run, 55-10. The Buccaneers wouldn't do anything against the Texan backup D. The Backup offense would add a touchdown, 8 play, 80 yard drive, ending on a 24 yard pass from Derek Karp (Who is a lefty, btw) to Lemon. Final score, 62-10.

Withers was 9-12, 223, 4 TD, while Karp was 3-4, 74, TD. (They had the EXACT same QB rating) Mathis was a pedestrian 41 on 13, Hawkins had 53 on 10, Goldwire 38 on 8. Lemon led receivers with 77 yards.

Barber was a monster, with 2 INTs, a FF, FR and a TD. Mario Williams had two sacks again, giving him 100 in his career. Moore was 11-25, 153, 1 TD, 3 INT. They actually ran decently, McFadden was 25-6, Mercer 24-7.

2-0 now, but it won't be that easy likely up next as I host the Colts.

Re: 2018 Onward: Turning the Houston Texans Into a Winner

I was winning this one 21-3 in the 1st quarter, kick return, fumble, and INT TD.

At this point, it set in even more. It's not really that much fun anymore. I've become too dominant. Here I was dominating the Colts again, and my team would probably go unbeaten again.

But at this point, I want more of a challenge. So I am likely going to start a new career and try to re-create when this game was really fun for me. Right now, it's filling the fact that I am bored, but after the last Super Bowl win, it has just become too easy.

I'm not deleting the file, and it is more than possible that I will come back and finish this. Part of the fun for me is also seeing how everything turns out. But I think I'm going to start new.

I may or may not write about it on here, keeping up with this is also time consuming.

Thanks to everyone who was supported these over the duration.

Re: 2018 Onward: Turning the Houston Texans Into a Winner

It's tough when it gets to that point. Kick returns are just broke for me. A decent returner will get way to many TDs. I had to start using guys on the lower end of the ratings pole, and still some games it's ridiculous.

Unless you put a lot of restrictions on things, it's just too hard to get a challenge after playing the game for so long. I've gone back to using the default settings and not bothering with sliders at all. As the coach levels up, the sliders make it almost impossible to lose a game. Currently sitting at 3-7 in my first season with the Redskins, English path even, so it's working for me so far.

Anyway, hate to see this end. These threads of yours were one of the big reasons I finally started up a franchise of my own. Still, if it's not fun anymore, it's just not fun. But it's been a fun read. Good luck with the next franchise.

Random idea I had, let me know what you guys think:

Because I am an odd one, half the time I enjoy watching how the entire league and players progress over time.

Therefore, my idea to start new (I can't get into actually playing one right now) would be to simulate the entire thing, have all of the tasks of whatever team I am delegated. Sit back, and watch what happens.

Would anyone be interested in seeing that here?

Only to really make that work is to not create a coach. Use an exisiting one.

That's what I'd do, I'd take over like the Colts or Patriots with Dungy/Belichick.

The only problem with that I see is that the game AI makes some pretty bad decisions, especially in the offseason. It'd be interesting to see the results, though.

I can understand how winning after the first season would take the wind from your sails. I would have expected it to take another year at least. I have been thinking about doing something while playing my 4 teams and here is what I started.

I made a new coach and took over the Jets, 1 year of Farve, and will do whatever it takes to win in the first year. Then, win or lose I will leave the Jets for a new team. Every season will move to a new team. I will try and not go back to a team I have been with.

I don't have quite the knack for Dynasty posting you do so I figure if you were interested you would post your story for us to read. I would just pick a different draft class. Maybe Sweetney, I run that on my Eagles team and it has been pretty fun so far.
