      Re: Redskins (HC 09)

I am sorry, I don't know why that table is soo big! I tried 3 times to post it and it just seemed to get bigger every time. If anyone can tell me how to make them smaller I would greatly appreciate it!!

Now, to that stupid game. For some reason DT Moore was benched before the game so I am sure that helped with them ripping me apart on the ground. my running game was a joke! When a team is giving up almost 200 yards on the ground something needs to be fixed.

I am really not sure what to do about RB Portis. I am heading into my bye week so we need the rest. I think I am going to rest the team for most of this week. But he has me concerned. Even though he only had 4 carries in the game against the Steelers, his health continues to drop. As of the Tuesday after the game (it was a Monday Night game) his leg is at 41% and his overall health is 66%. So if I can get him to the off-season maybe it will get better. He is too expensive to cut right now.

        Re: Redskins (HC 09)

Here is my problem when it comes to re-signing this year:

I want to sign RB Robinson, he wants 12.4 million for 6 years and a 2.5 million bonus. OLB Avril, who has been starting at MLB for me wants 13.8 for 6 years and a 2 million bonus. If I end up cutting Portis and Carter at the end of the year (if I cant trade them) then I will still gain about 500k on the cap. Should I re-sign these 2 players with that in mind??

It would be really kind of Collins and Baker to retire, but I doubt it. Baker's too exp to cut, but you may just have to cut McIntosh, Carter, Betts and Collins and suck it up with Randle El and Baker this year. Randle El has his uses, and I'm sure you'll be able to deal Portis... Hopefully you have several guys w/o bonuses you can cut too...

            Re: Redskins (HC 09)

This is sad, considering how much I have played this game, but I have never encountered this before.

I went ahead and tried this to see what would happened, I signed Avril and 2 other players with low contract numbers (less than 500k per year) and it said my cap for next season was -610K. So I cut RB Portis and DE Carter and the cap number next year didn't change, but it did say I had 13 million in penalties. I didn't save it, I just wanted to see what it did to the cap numbers.

So why did the cap number not change for next year? Will it get out of the hole?

This is new territory for me...

            Thanks for any help.

              Re: Redskins (HC 09)

If I remember correctly, once you go past June 1(or is it July), you enter a new cap year. So nothing you do at this point will impact your cap numbers for this year, but it will impact your cap for next season.

As far as I can tell, you always have more money than it shows in your cap numbers. I think the game simply miscalculates the 2nd year of a contract, because I always have more cap room than it showed in the resigning period.

                  Re: Redskins (HC 09)

Just a few things to update what is going on:

                  OLB/MLB Avril: Re-signed for 6 years, 13.8 million and 2 million bonus.

Salary Cap: I now have about 350k over the cap. I would like to sign my back-up Center (1.76/3 yrs, 0 bonus) but that will put me under the cap next year so I am still not sure if I will do it. I may and if I need to cut him I can with no penalty.

Kicker Tynes: I am really starting to regret re-signing him. He missed to FGs in the Cowboys game. He has a 500k bonus, but I may eat that one and sign a better kicker. I may see if I can trade for one. I am just not pleased right now.

RB Portis: Before the game he was a 68% Health, Left leg 43%, Right leg 64%. After the game and 16 carries, he is now 64% Health, Left leg 39% and Right leg 59%. I have him #2 on the depth chart and may move him to #3 and let Betts take some of the carries.

Injury: The first major one of the season, TE Cooley, Tricep Strain, out 4-5 weeks.

QB Collins: He is "thinking about the future" so this might help ALOT on the cap next year. "keeping my fingers crossed"

Injury Update: OLB Suggs twisted his ankle on game day and is out for a week.

QB Collins: He is retiring at the end of the year! So should I use the extra money and re-sign Robinson or just get someone in the draft? With this crappy GM it is very difficult to scout anyone.

Bitter note: Seahawks LOLB Leroy Hill was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week after the clinic he put on against my offense. 17 tackles, 3 sacks, and an INT, those are the stats for all 3 linebackers, not just one!

QB Collins has said he is going to retire! I have been thinking about re-signing Robinson...but just some things I see number wise, not a lot of progression for a 5 year contract, so I am really thinking about this one.

LOL - No way Dallas would have that record if they had Owens and Randy Moss I guess! That would be sick. Guess a team could do that right now in the NFL, but it'd be less impressive than 5 years ago.

Collins had his moments, but for your cap #s, it's good he'll retire.

Robinson is tricky, if he's healthy and durable, he might be worth keeping since he's pretty versatile, knows your playbook. If you move Betts and Portis it will be nice to start the season with one veteran back who knows your system. He's prob not a bad back to start if you need one short term, or as the #2. All depends on how you think your cap will play out and if he's reasonable the first couple years of the contract while you get your bank in order.

Also, n.p. - I like reading the franchises - always gives me ideas for more... Besides, there's so few of us left - we have to support each other. Can't wait till HC14 comes out on the nextgen... ok.. I made that last part up, but it's nice to dream. You see NCAA has coaching skills/special skills now?

Dang Aurabolt, got me all excited and ready to put some money down for the next gen with that HC 14 comment !!! It would be so nice! I have already pre-ordered NCAA and Madden this year. Normally I just get NCAA, but Looman is the lead designer on Madden Connected Franchise so I am expecting big things from that as well. We shall see...have to be pretty deep to completely replace HC though.

I am leaning more towards signing Robinson for the reasons you stated. With Collins retiring that frees me up some more room and if I get in a pinch, I will cut some of the players I have, but it is nice to have some long term contracts of players I want to keep.
