A tale of two halves. The Jaguars were able to take an early lead, and keep the game close, but things fell apart quickly in the second half as the Colts dismantled the Jaguars Sunday night.

Marques Tuiasosopo threw two touchdown passes, but fumbled twice and threw two picks as the Jaguars got desperate to try to get back into the game. The Colts offense, stagnate the first half, was unstoppable in the 4th quarter. Colts players suddenly were able to break tackles and making leaping grabs they hadn't done in the early stages of the game.

Josh Scobee attempted a 57 yard field goal that would have made it 13-10, but while it had the distance, it drifted right. After that, the Jags couldn't score till the game was far out of reach. Asked what went wrong, Jags Coach Cotignola responded, "What went right?"

With the loss, the Jags drop to 1-2, while the Colts improve to 3-0. Jaguars DT John Henderson was the lone injury, hurting his torso just before halftime and was out for the game. After sitting out 3 days for a laceration on his hand (makes sense, right?), he returned to practice and will be fine for the game Sunday.

As for the remaining injuries, the only man in the trainer's room is RG George Foster; who is expected to miss another 3-4 weeks. (plus Paul Spicer, who is on IR.)

Up next, another division battle, this time vs. the Houston Texans. The Texans come to Jacksonville with an impressive 3-0 record. Matt Schaub has one of the best receivers in the NFL in Andre Johnson, who, along with Bernard Berrian, Andre Davis and Jacoby Jones, gives the Texans an elite passing attack. Travis Henry is the starter at running back, though Anthony Thomas and Ahman Green are both quality backs as well.

On defense, it's all about Mario Williams. His counterpart is Adrian Awasom, with Amobi Okoye and Frank Okam making a young, but excellent tackle tandem. Boss Bailey, DeMeco Ryans, and Demorrio Williams make up a smart, fast linebacking corps. The seconday shows talent at the corner position - with Fred Bennett and Dunta Robinson, but the safeties are suspect. Tank Williams and Colin Branch are solid, but a step down from some of the competition the Jaguars have faced already. Hopefully it's something Coach can find a way to exploit.

Almost game time. Can the Jaguars pull off the upset here and even their record? Or do the Texans make it 4-0 and leave the Jaguars bruised and battered at the bottom of the AFC South?

Nice so far dude. The Jags are fun to play with. An underrated D and you have Fragile Fred still doing work on offense.

        Miscues, missteps, mistakes doom Jaguars

As night falls in Jacksonville, the only sounds are the drumming of raindrops as the team is still stunned by their loss versus the Texans Sunday afternoon. Jacksonville's defense played their hearts out today, and aside from one big pass play, they shut down the run game, shut down the Jaguars all-pro passing attack, and even scored a safety. It wasn't enough.

The Jaguars offense, while hardly explosive, was able to move the ball well, esp with the ground game; however four straight second half red zone chances resulted in zero points. The first one ended with a missed chip shot field goal (they wanted me to go for it, and when I didn't, and missed - my approval dropped from 87 to 65!!) The second ended on a Tuiasosopo fumble. The third on a Tuiasosopo interception, and the last on a Felix Jones fumble.

After the game, Coach Cotignola barely seemed able to control his rage at his team's repeated mistakes. "We're not in the preseason anymore, it's time for these guys to man up and finish a play, finish a drive, finish a damn game!" When asked about whether or not he was thinking about making a change at quarterback; Coach Cotignola was tight-lipped, which might be all the answer the press needed. He did say that, "Something has to give, we aren't going to be able to win many games if we keep giving up the ball. Accidents happens, Fate is Fickle, but repeated turnovers are not going to be tolerated."

John Henderson, Daryle Smith, and Champ Warren, all starters, were knocked out of the game in the first half. No word on the severity of the injuries as of yet.

          Injury report:

John Henderson - strain, 1 wk
Daryl Smith - sprained foot, 1 wk
Champ Warren - strained triceps, 2-3 weeks

          Approval has fallen to 59!

UP NEXT!! The Pittsburgh Steelers! Pittsburgh is 2-2, coming off a Monday night loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

Ben Roethlisberger, Hines Ward, and Willie Parker form a dangerous trio for the Jaguars defense to deal with. Rookie RT Gosder Cherilus has been a day one starter and has been a powerful run blocker. Troy Polamalu and the rest of the defense are licking their chops at the thought of getting unleashed on the Jaguars struggling offense. (other rookies drafted were QB Brian Brohm and DT Andre Fluellen, both 2nd string)

          Thursday, October 2nd

Head Coach Dave Cotignola announced that Luke McCown will start at QB this week vs the Steelers, citing the need to spark the team and give Tuiasosopo a week to get himself together. 5 lost fumbles and 4 picks in 4 games just isn't acceptable. The loss last week isn't all on him, but the team needs to know it can count on the quarterback to lead the team and the turnovers are killing the team's morale. Coach said he hasn't given up on Tui, but with the Steelers dangerous defense on deck the team needs to make this change. Marques said he understood the decision, stating "I know I'm not getting it done. I want our team to be successful, that's the bottom line. I can use this week to watch Luke, watch the whole offense, from a different perspective and work on my game. I'll prove to the coaches I'm ready to lead this team again."

Re: A new Jag! (jax hc09)

Tough losses to Houston and Indy. Both teams play well in the game and are hard to beat, especially if you turn the ball over four times. It'll take time, but it does seem that your Jaguar team is starting to get it together. If you could just cut down on those turnovers, you'd have a better record. (ironic how that is just like real life, huh?) That, and your injuries. But with your team getting healthier, I can see you starting to go on a run. Good luck in your next game!

Re: A new Jag! (jax hc09)

Steelers steal one late, Jags stunned.

Close, but no cigar. The one that got away. Call it what you will, but the Steelers came into Jacksonville and walked out with their 3rd win of the season on a last second field goal.

Jacksonville led 27-24 late, but couldn't stop the Steelers from kicking the tying field goal with 55 seconds left, then forcing a 3 and out. Following a great kick return and a quick pass to Hines Ward, Reed hit another long field goal to drop the Jags to 1-4.

Jaguars QB Luke McCown started the game, and the offense reacted, scoring several times in the first half; but turnovers once again turned the game around. McCown threw two picks in the first half, the last being returned for a touchdown with just seconds left in the half to steal the momentum away from the Jags.
Marques Tuiasosopo was reinstated as starter and player error-free ball, throwing a touchdown pass to Naanee to tie the game, and then led the drive that led to a Scobee field goal to take the lead. Unfortunately this time the defense couldn't come up with a stop when it was most important.

The loss put the Jaguars at 1-4, seriously damaging their postseason prospects. The Jaguars once again lost DT John Henderson for the game, as well as RB Fred Taylor.
Henderson is already back in the lineup, although his durability is a major concern. Fred Taylor broke a bone in his hand and will miss 2-3 weeks. MLB Daryl Smith is expected back in time for next week's game at Denver.

The Jaguars have released DT Anthony Bryant. Bryant was a reserve behind Henderson and Dunn, but with the constant injuries to Henderson, the team felt they needed an upgrade here. (Bryant was picked up by the Panthers and is starting with due to an injury to Maake Kemoeatu)

The Jaguars have traded their 2009 6th round pick and 2010 5th round pick to the Eagles for DT Mike Patterson. Said Coach Cotignola,"Mike is a gifted, athletic DT with a nose for the ball. I'm excited to see him on the field this week."

MLB Mike Peterson and the Jaguars have begun discussing a new contract, but little progress was made. Mike's camp is debating hitting the market to see if he can start somewhere, while Mike would like to start, but love Jacksonville. The Jaguars would welcome him back at the right price, although they intend to keep Daryl Smith as the starter.

LT Nat Dorsey has signed a 2 year contract worth $800k, with a $250k signing bonus. Nat is a solid reserve tackle for the team, and left tackles are valuable, so to get a young one with some skill (currently an 81 OVR) for a good price is a good move.

RB Fred Taylor has approached the team for a new contract. Fred's a future Hall of Famer, and we want him back - although he's currently injured. He'll have to understand that Felix Jones will be evolving into our starter. Fred Taylor has signed a 2 year contract for $6.68 million, with a $1.75 million dollar signing bonus. There are also a few incentives, 1000 yards and 10 TDs, neither of which seem likely. A little much, but this was the kind of contract you give to one of your franchise's legendary players as kind of a thank you. Our salary is going to be fine, and for the team and the fans, I just had to do the right thing.

RE Tyler Brayton has not been offered a new contract. Right now I'm not sure I'm going to keep him. I know Reggie Hayward is going to move on, but for my defense, Tyler is a good run-stopper, but I'm not sure he's going to be the starter for me long term. My rookies haven't really established themselves either. I'm going to wait a few weeks and see how Tyler does over the course of the season before deciding anything. I'll prob be looking at upgrading here next year regardless.

CB Cletis Gordon has accepted a 2 year contract worth $1.24 million dollars. No signing bonus was included in the deal. Cletis has been a good reserve corner for us, and returned kicks as well. It's a budget-friendly deal we can use to continue to evaluate him as the season goes on.

UDFA rookie SS Bo Wilson has walked out of contract negotiations. Unexpected, especially since the guy should be happy to have a job. We'll see how he feels next week.

RG George Foster and RT Richard Collier have approached the Jaguars for new contract. I'm pretty sure I'm going to move on from both of them - I've got two rookie RGs who have done ok for themselves in George's absence, and Richard's an average reserve tackle. We'll see what things look like once the rest of my contracts are figured out and I see the cap... plus examine their performance a little more closely.

Time to get on the plane and head to Denver to face the Broncos!!

Denver, 2-3 on the season, is led by Jay Cutler. Shaun Alexander is the running back, along with Selvin Young. Brandon Marshall is a beast at wide receiver, and his playmaking ability will be a major test for CB Rahsean Mathis. Rookie Ryan Clady is the starting LT and has been impressive so far.

Crowder and Dumervil start at defensive end. Dumervil had lost his starting job to rookie Buddy Jackson, but an injury to Jackson gives Dumervil another shot. Michael Boley and Keith Rivers give Denver one of the top OLB duos in all of football. Champ Bailey is just about the top corner in the league, while Jonathan Lynch and former Jaguar Donovan Darius are the best safety duo the Jaguars may have faced all year.

This game will make or break the Jags young season, already 1-4, another loss would pretty much end the Jaguars playoff hopes. The rest of the Jags division is already 5-0 (Colts), 5-1 (Texans), and 4-1 (Titans). The season is slipping...

                Late interception dooms Jaguars

Can there be any doubt that Broncos cornerback Champ Bailey is headed to the Hall of Fame one day? While trying to hold off a late Jaguars rally, Champ took matters into his own hands - hand actually - by snaring a Marques Tuiasosopo pass one-handed and returning it 79 yards for the game-sealing touchdown.

                - Jacksonville lost three starters in the game, but still found themselves only trailing 16-10 despite a dismal offensive output when Champ sealed the game. A second Bailey interception with less than a minute to go led to a "rub salt in the wounds" field goal to make the final score 26-10.

Marques Tuiasosopo was a horrendous 4-23 passing, aided by SIX drops from his receiving corps. Meanwhile, his counterpart Jay Cutler could do no wrong, completing 10 in a row at one point to go 10/11 in the first half before he started to force some passes and make some errant throws.

Running backs Felix Jones and Cory Boyd ran well, but each lost a critical fumble. Once again the Jaguars defense shut down the opposing running game, but with Cutler seemingly unable to miss on third down, the Broncos were able to control the clock. In fact, the Jaguars only ran 2 plays in the first quarter - a short run by Jones and an interception by Tui.

(all in all, I was sooo furious how one sided it was - it was like the computer decided the outcome already and there was little I could do about it... From the 3rd down drops I had, to to see Cutler hit Stokley and crew with every thing he threw. The injuries started piling up. They'd go for a field goal, and it'd hit the crossbar and go in... Champs INT return where he weaved through everyone, crossed field and wasn't touched... etc. Oh well, I still love the game, even when it makes me crazy.)

                BYE WEEK!!! WOOO!!!!

MLB Mike Peterson and the Jaguars continue negotiating, but no deal was reached this week.

RE Roderick Green signed a 2 year contract worth $1.6 million dollars with no signing bonus; incentives were included in the deal, but not revealed at this moment.
Roderick has been a great find for us. Converted from OLB back to his normal position, he's had three sacks in three games, the most recent pushed the Broncos out of field goal range and gave the Jaguars a shot at their final drive. (which Tui threw into the hand of Champ Bailey... lol)

Rookie UDFA Bo WIlson decided to accept the Jaguars 2 year offer, apparently realizing he should be glad he has a job. The deal was for 2 years, and $1.04 million dollars with no signing bonus or incentives.

Up next, the Cleveland Browns. Owners of a 10-6 record last year, the Browns return All Pro quarterback Derek Anderson, All Pro Running Back Jamal Lewis, and All Pro Receiver Braylon Edwards. Added to that group is rookie WR Mario Manningham, a possible candidate for rookie of the year; along with tight end Kellen Winslow and an excellent offensive line, led by Joe Thomas, one of the best left tackles in the game.

Defensively, Ryan Denney, Robaire Smith, and Shaun Rogers make for a strong front line. 2 of the 4 starting linebackers for the Browns are out, but the reserves are skilled former starters themselves, and part of the reason the 3-3 Browns came away with a win last week against the Redskins, 27-17.

Re: A new Jag! (jax hc09)

During the bye week, Coach Cotignola addressed a few things with the media...

                  - Fred Taylor is healthy and back in the lineup.

                  - The alarming numbers of injuries each week can't be simply "blamed on the training staff", but added that something had to change. It's hard to win a game when a half dozen starters get knocked out.

                  - WR Legedu Naanee was brought in with high expectations, but after dropping three passes last week, he risks spending a week in the doghouse, if not longer. Coach C did say in Naanee's defense that he's a talented guy, who was buried by the numbers in San Diego - he's learning a lot every week. As the offense improves and "gels", Coach Cotignola said he's sure that Naanee will really surprise a lot of people. Naanee was covered by Champ Bailey last week, and that would make anyone struggle.

                  - With a 1-5 record, and 5 games behind the Colts and Texans, Coach Cotignola has decided to use the extra week to prepare Dennis Dixon for his first start. Still recovering from his knee injury at Oregon, Dennis knows he'll be pulled if he takes too many hits - but he's excited for the opportunity. QB Marques Tuiasosopo recently signed a 2 year contract, and is going out of his way to make sure Dennis is ready. "Like all veterans in my position," Marques said "I feel like I'm the starter, and this is my team - but time marches on and we're only as good as our last game. There's always going to be a younger guy looking for his chance. I'm ok with that - that was me once. I just have to work harder, that's all."

Jaguars win 2nd game, defeat Browns!

Jacksonville notched it's second win of the season, holding off the Cleveland Browns for a 34-31 victory at home. Rookie QB Dennis Dixon threw tho touchdowns, but almost threw the game away when his 4th quarter interception was returned 55 yards for a touchdown by Browns safety Brodney Pool. The Jaguars defense proved up to the task, and held the Browns to 4 and out to preserve the victory!

Jaguars running back Fred Taylor was knocked out of the game, as was RG Champ Warren... details pending.

                    Approval is up to 48!

Fred Taylor sprained his thumb tackling Brodney Pool in the end zone after the interception last game, and will miss one week.

MLB Mike Peterson and FB Greg Jones have signed 2 year contracts, terms were undisclosed.

CB DeMario Minter signed a 3 year contract, again, terms were undisclosed.

Up next, the Cincinnati Bengals! The Bengals are 3-4, and tied with the Browns at the bottom of the AFC North. They've already gone on record and said this is a must-win game for them to keep pace with the Ravens, who currently lead the division. Carson Palmer is having a Pro Bowl season so far, and with a loaded receiver corps consisting of Chad Johnson, TJ Houshmandzadeh; plus rookies Harry Douglas and Andre Caldwell, it's easy to see why. RB Rudi Johnson is still a battering ram of a running back as well.

Kevin Carter and Justin Smith provide elite skill and experience off the edge, while DT Dan Klecko, son of NY Jets Joe Klecko teams with rookie DeAndre Shankleback to man the inside of the line. Rookie MLB Curtis Lofton is flanked by Brandon Chillar and Karlos Dansby to give the Bengals a great linebacking group. Rookie CB Leodis McKelvin teams with Leon Hall and Jonathan Joseph to give the Bengals arguably the best young cornerback trio in the league.

Yeah, it was a big relief to get that second win. Believe it or not, I'm happier at 2-5 than 7-0. I won't make the playoffs this season, but I upgrade a couple spots next year and I'm sure I'll make it.

                          VICTORY!!

Dennis Dixon threw for close to 300 yards as the Jaguars were able to capitalize on an aggressive gameplan by the Bengals Sunday afternoon in Cincinnati. Several times the Bengals cornerbacks made leaping grabs for the ball, only to have the pass get to the receiver anyway, who was able to turn the miscue into a big gain. The Bengals seemed willing to shut down the Jaguars running attack, but the Jaguars rookie signalcaller made them pay time and time again.

Several players were knocked out of the game, however none are going to miss next week's game.

                          UP NEXT!! The Detroit Lions!!!

The Lions are really struggling this year with a record of 1-7; which is confusing as they have a tremendous amount of offensive talent. Jon Kitna is the starting quarterback, though at this point they should turn the team over to last year's 2nd round pick Drew Stanton. Starting running back Warrick Dunn is out, but Derrick Ward, Brian Calhoun and Jamal Buckingham will try to fill the void. Roy Williams, Calvin Johnson Mike Furrey, and Shaun McDonald make up an elite receiving corps (all 80+ ovr).

Dwayne White and Orien Harris are starting at DE, while Cory Redding and rookie DeMario Pressley are the tackles. Mayo and Sims give the Lions great linebackers, and while MLB Paris Lenon is out, Mark Simoneau is a capable fill-in. The Lions corners are Leigh Bodden and rookie Torrin Taylor, along with Michael Lehan.

Injury Note: RB Fred Taylor will miss the game, as his sprained thumb needs a couple more days...

Another one bites the dust! Jaguars win!

Jaguars fans celebrate after the team won a tough defensive battle in Detroit. Coach Cotignola wasn't celebrating though, as Dennis Dixon threw three interceptions and Josh Scobee missed two long field goals. Although a win is a win, Coach Cotignola is quick to point out that the Lions are a struggling team too (1-7 entering the game) and that so many mistakes against a playoff team would lead to a huge beating.

                              Approval is up to 76!

Up next - a game with the Titans!! After last week's win, the Jags are playing with confidence; and now get to test it against one of the division rivals. The Titans are 7-2, but still behind the Colts and Texans in the standings - so the Jaguars know they're bringing their A game.

These two teams faced off in week one during a monsoon in Jacksonville, a 19-9 Titans victory. This game will be remembered by Jaguars fans as the game where SEVEN players were knocked out of the game. This time, the Titans will also be dealing with some injuries of their own, as LenDale White, Isaac Bruce and rookie DE Lawrence Jaconson will all miss this week's contest. Lawrence Jackson was hurt last time too, and reserve Atiyaah Ellison did a good job, picking up a sack in the game.

Can the Jaguars keep their streak alive and get back to .500? We'll find out when the Jags visit Tennessee!

The hottest team in the AFC? Jacksonville wins its 4th straight!

With their backs up against the wall, the Jacksonville Jaguars fought back and defeated the Tennessee Titans 24-17 on Sunday. Despite being outgained by almost a 2:1 margin, and giving up several big plays, the Jags kept it close and then took the game over behind a couple huge touchdown runs by Fred Taylor. Josh Scobee hit a booming 57 yard field goal to close out the scoring, and rookie cb Justin Tryon tackled Justin Gage just inbounds to enable the clock to run out as the Titans were within 17 yards of tying the game.

APPROVAL IS UP TO 94!!! SWEET!

TE Kemby Osby, FB Greg Jones, and RG George Foster were knocked out of the game, and a couple players were dinged up for a few plays; but nothing like the casualties the Jags had after game one with the Titans this year.

                                Up next: The Minnesota Vikings!

Last year's Rookie of the Year, Adrian Peterson, is the NFL's most dangerous running back. His ability has helped QB Tarvaris Jackson and the receiving group of Devery Henderson, Darrell Jackson, Sidney Rice and Eddie Royal catch teams off guard. But AP is battling a high ankle sprain and will miss the game! (and the next 2-3 weeks.) Considering how injured my team has been, I feel the Vikings pain - still, I'm glad I'm not facing him this week...

Star sack master Jason Allen is bookended by Josh Thomas, while the Williams Wall is still manning the middle of the line. Ben Leber, EJ Henderson and Chad Greenway are the linebackers; Antoine Winfield and Cedric Griffin are the corners. Rookie FS Thomas DeCoud starts opposite the legendary SS Darren Sharper.

The Vikings are 4-6, and have dropped 4 in a row, whereas the Jaguars are on a 4 game winning streak! Can they keep it going?
