Re: A new Jag! (jax hc09)

Not a spoiler for your picks, but just an observation: I haven't seen Javon Jackson fall out of the top ten before in a draft. That's a first for me. Tough luck on your previous season, but good to see you at least break even at 8-8. Hopefully this year will be better. And it should be, seeing as your team should now know your playbook and be able to perform better.

Edit: seeing as you have the potential for Dexter Knox now, I can freely say this: he was a great pickup. Knox can be a staple on your defense for years playing at a high level if he stays healthy. Looking forward to seeing what he can do for your defense

Great win for the Jaguars as they open 2009 with a huge win. The defense was all over the field, spoiling Matt Leinart's debut by helping the Jags build a big lead, then adding two scores of their own off Leinart picks. Dennis Dixon had a solid game, and most of the team played like they were already in midseason form. It was a great feeling.

          Approval is up to 63!!

FB Greg Jones got hurt in practice, I will insert rookie RB Samardo Black into the fullback spot, and hopefully he'll do all right. He's a big back, and I've got confidence in him.

Up next is the New England Patriots... (tough schedule facing the Colts twice and the Pats!) The Patriots lost last week vs the Colts, 28-21 and will be looking to take their anger out on the Jaguars for sure.

Tom Brady, of course, starts at QB. Lawrence Maroney is the starter, with McFadden as the backup. Moss, Welker, Kevin Robinson and Limas Sweed make up a strong group of receivers. Ty Warren, Vince Wilfork and Richard Seymour make up the best 3-4 d line in football, and defensive player of the year Adalius Thomas mans the middle of a great linebacking corps. Last year's rookie cb Aqib Talib is now the starting corner opposite Ellis Hobbs. Rodney Harrison still is the force at safety.

This will be a tremendous test for the Jaguars.... are they up to the task?

Re: A new Jag! (jax hc09)

Well, what can I say? It's Tom Brady. Despite keeping it close early, Brady and the Patriots were able to consistently make plays that the Jags did not. Several times the Jags drives died out, resulting in field goals instead of touchdowns. The Patriots, meanwhile, converted over 60% of their third down opportunities, and there were times that their big weapons, Randy Moss and Benjamin Watson, were able to make amazing leaping grabs that had my cornerbacks unable to stop. Still, we made some strides - and already missing one starting receiver, then losing a second in the first quarter (Avery), Dixon was able to make some good throws to the rest of the team. It just wasn't enough. Reigning Defensive MVP Adalius Thomas picked off a Dixon pass and returned it 71 yards for a huge touchdown. (which was crap he outran several of my guys who had mid-high 90s speed, but whatever, it's a game.)

              Baltimore Ravens preview:

Byron Leftwich returns for his second season with the Ravens. Last year he threw for 16 TDs and over 3000 yards, but 25 interceptions. Willis McGahee is still the running back, and the young veteran looks to improve on his lost season in 2008, where injuries limited him to 10 games and a disappointing 611 yards. Isaac Bruce came over from Tennessee and showed he still has it, leading his team in receptions in two Ravens victories. The veteran Trevor Pryce starts at one end, opposite Haloti Ngata, while last year's rookie DT Glen Dorsey has already passed his 2008 sack total 2 games in!! He's really stepped into the starter's role for sure. Antwan Barnes, Bart Scott, Desmond Bishop and Dallas Sartz make up the always-good Ravens linebacking corps. Chris McAlister (8 picks in 2008) and Antoine Cason (4) start at corner. Ed Reed and Chris Horton are the safeties.

The Ravens are healthy, save for their backup C and RG, who are both out for a few weeks.

Should be a good matchup, but I think we can take advantage of Byron Leftwich should they put the game in his hands... No Ray Lewis makes me happy.... Almost time for kickoff!!!

                VICTORY!!!

Coach Cotignola was all smiles discussing his team's big win vs. the Ravens. "I thought the team really pulled together and fought hard to earn this victory. The interception return was like a shot to the gut, but hey, Ed Reed's a Hall of Famer for a reason. The safety was a rookie mistake, I've talked with Samardo about it, and it'll be corrected. After those shots, a lot of teams would have folded; but we fought back, stopped their momentum, and then took the game over. I'm so proud of these guys."

3rd string TE Kemba Osby is going to miss 2-3 weeks with a hamstring injury. I signed TE Craig Stevens, a rookie last year with Atlanta who caught 5 passes for 56 yards in limited action with the Falcons. I was very happy to see my pass rush really assert itself, as Roderick Green and Victor Abiamiri each had two sacks - hopefully we can keep it up.

Next up for the Jaguars is a matchup against the Houston Texans. This will be a great test for our team as we get our first divisional game. The Texans are 1-2 and we have a chance to really make a statement in the division.

Matt Schaub starts at QB for the Texans, and Travis Henry has held off last year's first round pick Rashard Mendenhall by gaining over 1300 yards last season. The trio of Andre Johnson, Bernard Berrian and Jacoby Jones are still the key receivers, and rookie Chris Snow is the starter at TE.

Depsite 5 sacks in 2008, Adrian Awason has been passed on the depth chart by Alvin Michaels, who played for Green Bay in 2008. Mario Williams is still one of the most dominant ends in football, and had 14 sacks last year. Frank Okam and Amobi Okoye are a stud DT tandem. Jarrett Johnson comes over from Baltimore to team up with DeMeco Ryans and DeMorrio Williams to shore up the linebacker group. Fred Bennett led the team with 5 interceptions, and Dunta Robinson lines up on the other side, with Jabari Greer as the nickel.
Tank Williams and Dawan Landry are the safeties...

Time to see what kind of statement we're going to make in the AFC South in 2009!!

Frank Okam and Andre Johnson are both going to miss this game! That'll surely help to not be the team crippled by injuries for once... will it be enough?

Re: A new Jag! (jax hc09)

Pretty happy with the way things are going - some of the miscues were my fault, I mean, who throws the ball near Ed Reed? LOL!! Some of my coaches are getting up there, I think I've got an 85, a couple in the 70s... regardless of my Owner's ideas, I'll prob kick anyone over a 70 to the curb and see if I can help fill up the talent pool a little. I might keep my RB coach though and promote him to OC and see if I can't develop him a little more...

Player-wise I'm happy that Dixon seems to be more aware of what's going on in the world around him and doesn't tuck and run as quick as he used to - crossing fingers he stays healthy.

Already getting the bug to get a second one going (deleted the bengals one when I decided to use this one) My ex-Xbox killed my last 2 attempts at a Raiders one, and it kills me not having my team... maybe after this season... plus I'm pretty sure I'm going to start a Chargers one too, just to give me options. Of course, there's 14 games I need to play, plus madden and ncaa are coming out. I need more time in the day... As it is, I'm stuck at work - doing a 6th day this week -- and I get to do this one for free... awesome...

Otherwise, depending on the next couple games, I think my Jags are on track for a wildcard. I'm only 2-1, I know, but my goal is 11-5... we'll see. The Colts will be the real test, the only way I'll get a wildcard for sure is to get 2nd place in my division...

Just a quick update - he's been great so far, not so much getting sacks/picks but getting to the ball fast, making tackles behind the line, etc... Hope he keeps it up!

Glad to see the victory against the Ravens! I will tell you that the times I have had Knox in the past he has been a BEAST so you have a good one there.

I agree about the coaches, but just simming the games they don't advance very quickly.

I was considering starting a 49ers one, after looking at their roster it is a lot like the Redskins, trying to build through FA. But even though I keep notebooks, it gets confusing. Plus I have been playing The Masters and NCAA comes out in 2 days!

With all of the rain and being a school teacher I have some free time, but I think I would like to completely finish this one before starting another.

Good luck with making the playoffs. Seems the south is tough to get past just because of the Colts.

                          Thanks!

Well, with the 49ers you could prob build either way depending on what you were looking for I suppose. Their cap is def better than the Skins though... Maybe someday I'll give it a shot too; however, like you, I want to take this one as far as it, or I, will go first though. (plus I wanna redo my Raiders finally, maybe a Chargers...)

Never played Masters, not gonna lie and say I'm too interested in golf, but looking forward to NCAA once I get paid (hopefully).

Last season the Colts, Texans and Titans all made it, so I know I have to get past one of them to get in - this week vs the Texans is a big game as I start my division games. (w/o Andre Johnson and Frank Okam it's my best chance.)

                          Good luck!!

Yeah. I never really used him for sacks or picks, but more of a tackling machine. He has great instincts in the game, and always seems to be in the perfect spot to make tackles. Quite often he led my team in tackles and tackles for a loss. Reminds me of the way Philip Wheeler was playing in my Titans dynasty before it crapped out on me. I may just pick up a copy to go with my PS3 since my Xbox copy seems to keep messing up

I am really enjoying NCAA this year. It's not perfect, of course, but it is much better this year. And the dynasty mode runs really well. I played it at E3, along with Madden, and I'm glad that it plays as well as it did there. Gives me high hopes for Madden as well this year

On another note, look forward to another dynasty from me sometime soon. Either going to start another as my Titans, or make a choice between the Redskins, Lions, Seahawks or 49ers. As soon as I get my new copy of the game, I'm starting it up again. Unfortunately, that does mean it won't be with the Head Coach updated rosters, which is unfortunate, but I'll have to make do with that

You have been served!!! Jaguars send message to AFC South foes!

The Jaguars came away Sunday with a dominant victory, defeating the Houston Texans 40-10! Matt Schaub threw 4 interceptions, two of which were returned for touchdowns. The Texans run defense was non-existent without Frank Okam, as Jaguars RB Felix Jones had over 150 yards on the day, with an 8.5 average. Jaguars QB Dennis Dixon continued to be inconsistent, throwing a touchdown pass, but also throwing 2 interceptions - one being returned for a touchdown.

FB Greg Jones, seeing his first action of the season, appeared to re-injure himself. Results of his MRI are pending. Without the 2008 Pro Bowler, the Jaguars had to lean on RB LenDale White to fill the void, although if Greg will again miss time, rookie RB Samardo Block will probably fill in. update:cracked thumb - 1 week. Samardo will fill in at FB.

C Drew Mormino has a cracked leg bone, and will miss 4-6 weeks. Reserve LG Uche Nwaneri has filled in, but a more permanent solution is needed since Drew will be out a while. Rookie FA Vernon Walter has been signed and will split time with Uche till either Uche or Vernon is ready to assume the role till they can be evaluated against Drew. Drew's been a decent player for us, but has been injured pretty often, and that's just not going to work...

                                Approval up to 81!!

Rashean Mathis got player of the week after his 2 Int, 1 td performance.

                                Up next! THE OAKLAND RAIDERS!!!

QB Andrew Walter, despite having thrown 31 interceptions last season, is still starting over 2007 #1 overall pick JaMarcus Russell. Welcoming his former teammates to Oakland is running back Maurice Jones-Drew, who had 948 yards and 5 tds last season. The receiving corps is relatively untested, with Darnay Howard coming over after spending his rookie season in Miami. He's teamed up with veteran David Patten, Johnnie Lee Higgins and Dennis Northcutt.

Rookie DE Leonard Glenn is the starting LE, with veteran Derrick Burgess backing up him. The Raiders 2008 first round pick, Chris Long, finished his rookie season with 9 sacks and a trip to the Pro Bowl. DT Tommy Kelly has been cut, mostlikely due to his huge contract - and last year's rookie DT Pat Sims starts with this years rookie DT Alain Dixon -who appears to be a monstrous player so far. Leading tackler, MLB Kirk Morrison, will be out; but ROLB Thomas Howard is possibly the best Raiders defender, and will no doubt elevate the play of those around him. The duo of Nnamdi Asomugha and DeAngelo Hall scares me to death, and with the other three corners on the roster all 79s and up overall, it will be very difficult for an inconsistent passer like Dixon to find anywhere to go with the ball.

The Jaguars, at 3-1, trail the 4-0 Titans and the 3-0 Colts, but are really playing inspired football... will it be enough against a rebuilding, but dangerous Oakland team? The Raiders, at 1-2, can't afford another loss if they are going to keep pace with the 3-1 Broncos and Chargers...

                                getting close to kickoff!!
