Re: A new Jag! (jax hc09)

Relentless Jaguars team smothers Raiders, 37-7

Another week, another huge victory for the Jaguars. They completely shut down the Raiders, setting several personal bests for the young Jaguar Head Coach; holding the Raiders to a total of 156 yards of offense, while Dennis Dixon set a career mark of 251 yards passing, as well as rushing for 2 touchdowns.

The Raiders had no answers, as Maurice Jones-Drew couldn't get out of the backfield, and the Raiders receivers dropped several passes that kept the team from finding any rythym. The Raiders definitely need to address their passing game in the offseason in order to get back to their glory days.

The win moves the Jaguars to 4-1, while the Raiders drop to 1-3.

    Approval up to 90!

    Contract Time:

LT Khaliff Barnes is asking for a new contract. He's 27, 87/88 ovr, and a stud LT still in his prime. Injury is 85, but he hasn't missed any games... He wasn't asking for much, between 12-14 million over 5 years, but we couldn't reach a deal. I'll make sure to get it done next time.

CB Richard Marshall came over from Carolina this year to help RaShean Mathis. We've had a couple big wins, and he snagged a pick in the big game vs Houston... Ran out of time, couldn't get that done either... hmm

WR Iman Hastings has been a good find, and he'll get his contract. 2 yrs, 2 million... He's the biggest guy I have, and fast - glad to keep him.

LOLB Clint Ingram. Clint was a starter for us last year, but Knox took his job in training camp and certainly isn't ready to give it up. I'm trying to trade Ingram, but so far no luck. I'm going to let him hit free agency and hope my constant refusal to re-sign him doesn't hurt my approval much.

WR Sinorice Moss - I wanted to re-sign him too, he's fast, can catch, can return kicks... he wanted a cheap deal too, but he walked out. My GM needs to work on his attitude I think...

LT Nat Dorsey - he's too valuable to let walk. He's been a key reserve, able to cover anywhere I need him to, never gets hurt... 3 yrs $1.75 million 500k bonus. (plus he's an 82 ovr right now, when his pot is 81! Overachiever! LOL!)

RB Steve Slaton was signed to be a 3rd down/scatback kind of player for us but he hasn't had many chances (not his fault) He doesn't want much at all, so he's an easy guy to re-sign for 2 yrs, $720k, $100k bonus. I'm going to try to give him some more carries if we get any more big leads...

FB Greg Jones went to the Pro Bowl last year, but was hurt all season up to the Texans game, and then got hurt right after he came back. He's 28, (80/81) and a team captain - but his injury is 75 and getting worse. I can't see locking him up long term. Maybe if he stays healthy in the next few games... but I don't know. I also allowed him to seek a trade, though it appears no one's interested yet.

DE Roderick Green re-signed for 2 years, $1.28 million with a $250 k bonus. He led the team with 6 sacks last year, and has a couple this year already. He's not a dynamic pass rusher, but he's been solid. I've been giving more and more snaps to rookie DE Dusty Bowman to try to get some better results; otherwise I need to make a serious move here to help Abiamiri out. Regardless, Roderick earned this contract, and it'll be nice to have a reserve I can count on.

Up next!! The Miami Dolphins host the Jaguars in a matchup between two early surprises... The Dolphins are 3-2 and coming off a 2 game winning streak, while the Jaguars are 4-1 and could really make a statement with a win here.

Similar to the Raiders, an ineffective QB is fending off a more talented young challenger. This time it's John Beck (12 tds, 24 picks in 2008) battling Biff Below (and Ken Dorsey). In John's defense, he only had 12 TDs all year last year, but has 11 so far through 5 games this year, so something's going right! RB/FB combo Ronnie Brown/Reagan Mauia is extremely talented, and the receiving corps is kind of a hodgepodge, but getting it done. Mike Furrey teams with former Jag Legedu Naanee and rookie Byron Campbell.

DE Matt Roth (10 sacks in 2008) and soon to be HOFer Jason Campbell (5 in 08) are the ends, while the mammoth Ted Washington (83 ovr) is still starting at age 41, showing his heart is second to none.
Curtis Boone, Zach Reeves and AJ Davis give the Dolphins 3 rookie starting linebackers and young Kevin Burnett (24 yrs) is the veteran in the 3-4. Brandon Flowers is the starting corner with Deltha O'Neal, who seems reborn and has 3 picks on the year. Ken Hamlin and Lawyer Milloy are greybeards at the safety position, but still very effective players.

Next week is a crucial showdown with the Indianapolis Colts, but the Jaguars can't be looking ahead - and the Dolphins have to face the Patriots next week - what happens if both teams are looking too far ahead??

Which coach will get their team to focus??

    HAMMERMILL or COTIGNOLA???

    Stay tuned!!

p.s. Hammermill has to be the reason Beck's playing so well right now....wonder if he'll put Tebow/Below under center next year or roll with Beck in 2010?

Re: A new Jag! (jax hc09)

Miami clutches defeat from the jaws of victory! Jags prevail on last second field goal!!!

The Jaguars may have finally proven they are for real, coming back from a 17-0 deficit to win the game in Miami on a last second Josh Scobee field goal.

The game started off terribly for the Jaguars, as they had 4 fumbles in the first 19 minutes of the game, and many Jaguars players were knocked out with injuries. The team rallied, however, as rookie QB Dwight Mizell was pressed into action and threw for 200 yards, first, setting up a Scobee kick as the first half ended, then throwing a huge touchdown pass to TE Tommie Weaver. His day ended on an interception, however, as the next series Dennis Dixon was able to come back into the game to complete the comeback.

      Approval is at 93!

Justin Durant - cracked leg bone - 3-4 weeks
Greg Jones - mild hamstring - 1 week
Cletis Gordon - lacerated hand - 1 day (5 days till gameday)
      D Smith - lacerated hand - 1 day
      T Ginn - bruised elbow - 5-6 days
D Hixon - strained groin muscle 5-6 days

Was looking at POTW and the Chiefs have Vernon Gholston - he had 17 tackles and a pick - 17? That's more than he had his whole rookie year in real life!!! (actually ties his real-life career high in tackles - his second season,2009... And this was one game... LOL!!!)

Re-signed CB Richard Marshall, WR Sinorice Moss, DT Gabe Watson, SS Bo Wilson, ROLB Tyrese Kent, RT Mason Reed...

Everyone made it back for the game except Greg Jones and Justin Durant. Samardo Black will fill in at fullback (reserve MLB Skaggs has a decent fullback skillset too... some versatility is good), but Coach Cotignola hasn't said whether Clint Ingram or Tyrese Kent will start at OLB. C Drew Mormino is still out from his previous injury.

The Jags, at 5-1 can enter the lead for the AFC South if they can pull off the upset, but the Colts are a dangerous opponent.

Peyton Manning is, of course, the QB; backed up by Trent Dilfer. Not often you see one SB winning QB backing up another - not one who actually earned his ring, anyway. Harrison, Wayne, Gonzalez and Shields are the receiving corps again, but for some reason rookie Dontae Glenn (69 ovr) is starting over Dallas Clark (89 ovr). The rest of the core team is intact, players like Joseph Addai, Dwight Freeney, Sedrick Ellis, Bob Sanders, etc are still in their starting roles much as in their Super Bowl winning season of 2008. The team is getting older, but still the favorites to repeat and get their 3rd ring in 4 years...

The two teams have toed the line, and the coin flip is next!!!

Re: A new Jag! (jax hc09)

HELL HATH FROZEN OVER!!! Jags destroy Colts, 30-2!!

The Jacksonville Jaguars made the statement of Coach Cotignola's young career by defeating the Indianapolis Colts 30-2 Sunday night. They held the shutout until a late safety saved the Colts from the donut. (stupid RBs always trying to break every gut play outside)

Peyton Manning had a poor day, throwing three interceptions, one of which was returned 93 yards for a touchdown by CB Richard Marshall. Dennis Dixon didn't fare much better, constantly tucking the ball and running rather than attempt passes in the rain. He did manage to hit rookie WR Iman Hastings for a score though. The Jags run game was the key factor here, constantly getting runs up the middle for big yardage, despite a great day from Colts DT Sedrick Ellis.

The only miscue the Jags had was an understandable miss by Josh Scobee of 61 yards (in the rain, I shouldn't have tried it.) and the safety.

With the win, the Jags are in first place in the AFC South!

        Approval is 95!!!

CB Richard Marshall got player of the week!

Several players were injured in the game but all are expected back in a few days.

Somehow between the last practice and gameday Dennis Dixon hurt himself (pending injury report). Rookie Dwight Mizell will get the start vs the Jets, but veteran Charlie Batch will be ready if needed.

As for the Jets, Kellen Clemons starts (over Sage Rosenfels and Chad Henne). Kevin Faulk is the starting running back, but touchdown machine Iman Tisdale (rookie of the year last year) will get plenty of action. Lavernues Coles, Bobby Engram, Donte Stallworth, and Jerrico Cotchery make up a skilled, veteran receiving group.

Shaun Ellis and rookie Darius Wagner are the ends, Kris Jenkins is the NT. Calvin Pace, David Harris, Philip Wheeler and Albert Harvey are the linebackers. Darelle Revis, Justin Miller and Antrel Rolle make up a dangerous cornerback trio. rookie FS Gabe Kirby starts, and Kenny Phillips starts at SS over Kerry Rhodes (both Kenny and Kerry are 87/88s!!)

Hopefully Coach Cotignola can keep the momentum going, and not fall victim to what seems to be a lesser opponent (after playing the Colts) The Jets are 3-3 and trying to catch up to the 5-1 Patriots, so the Jags need to be ready!
