Late Game Heroics Push Clemson Past State

      Clemson QB Charlie Whitehurst drops
back against the Wolfpack of NC State

Raleigh, NC - A close contest from the get-go, this game between the Clemson Tigers and #23 NC State was a classic by any standard. Numerous big names stepped up on both sides, as did various overlooked players.

The game started out with a successful Clemson drive, as the Tigers marched upfield and finished off the possession with a 3-yard TD pass. While still dwelling on the fact that they just scored on the best defensive team in the country, the Tigers wasted no time in giving up a touchdown to the Wolfpack. State would later go on to add another touchdown in the second quarter, answered by a Clemson score. Going into the break, the game was knotted at 14.

After halftime, the Tigers hit the field with something to prove. Jad Dean made a field goal to begin the second half, followed shortly thereafter with a James Davis touchdown run. After a 24 yard field goal by NCSU's Deraney, Clemson held a seven point lead going into the final quarter.

Deraney struck again to begin the fourth quarter, this time from 35 yards out. After a couple weak drives by both sides, the Wolfpack ended up with the ball again. After charging down the field with relative ease, Reggie Davis made Clemson pay with a six yard sprint into the endzone, giving State the lead with only 1:30 left in the ballgame.

The Tigers got absolutely nothing on the kick return, making it only to the 16 yard line. All of this didn't matter to QB Charlie Whitehurst, though, who was having one hell of a game up to this point. The experienced senior completed a couple of passes to his wideouts, and was helped out greatly by his HB Davis. With half a minute left in the contest, Whitehurst hurled the ball towards the endzone, and receiver Aaron Kelly came down with the football for the game winning score.

Tigers Impress Recruits by Beating Temple

                Volume 1, Issue 33

Last year, HB James Davis (pictured
                above) was Clemson's top recruit

Clemson, SC - For the first time this season, Clemson was welcoming high school seniors to their football games in hopes of signing them for next year. Making their official visits to Clemson Memorial Stadium were wide receiver Jonathan Baker, a small, but speedy wideout with awesome hands; and the #1 ranked linebacker in the class, Keith Page. Page stands at 6'0" and weighs in at 237lbs, and packs quite a punch with his strength, as well as being able to run a 4.52 40-yard dash.

With these recruits on hand, the Tigers definitely didn't disappoint. The Temple Owls were actually able to build up a small lead in the first half, knocking through two field goals and scoring a touchdown on a 12-yard scamber by Tim Brown. However, Clemson went into the locker room on a high note, as freshman James Davis ran 81 yards for his first score of the game.

The second half went much better for the Tigers, scoring numerous touchdowns in the final two quarters. Davis added another running touchdown and one receiving, helping out his struggling quarterback. When all was said and done, Clemson bested the Owls, 44-34.

Note: MLB Keith Page committed to Clemson; WR Jonathan Baker soft verbals

How is C.J. Gaddis doing in your dynasty? I sort of dated his older sister in high school, he was an awesome high school quarterback and baseball player. He plays for the basebal team too. That probably was too much information.

He's doing very well, I love using him on defense.

I knew he played QB in high school, but didn't know he was a baseball player, too.
