    Carolina Panthers

Well, like I said in my Redskins thread a few days ago, I saved over the file at like 2 am on Monday, so I have decided to use the Panthers. Ridicule all you want.

      2005 Season Preview

The Panthers came off a dream season in 2003 where they lost to the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl. Carolina came in with high expectations but quickly saw their season go down the drain. Injuries were the story in 2004, Steve Smith (leg), DeShaun Foster (clavicle), Stephen Davis (knee), and Kris Jenkins (shoulder) all fell victim to the injury bug. Nick Goings and Keary Colbert were the surprise players in Carolina, Goings was close to 1,000 yards and Colbert had 754 yards and 5 touchdowns. Jake Delhomme had a good year going 310/533 for 3886 yards, 29 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions. Carolina's receiving corps should receive a boost with the signing of Rod Gardner. The Panthers didn't get any key rookies in the draft for offense, but they still have a very capable offense. Carolina has a very young and very good offensive line that should create holes for whoever is the starting running back, and give Delhomme plenty of time in the pocket.

The Panthers specialty is defense and they return with the best defensive line in the entire league. Julius Peppers is the anchor of the defense and will be involved in every play and should have another Pro Bowl type season. Kris Jenkins will return this year and hopefully stay healthy and clog up the middle. With Mark Fields out for the year, Brandon Short will get the start at LOLB. MLB Dan Morgan is coming off his best year ever, with 101 tackles, 2 sacks, 2 INTs, FF, and 2 FRs. He is only getting better and will look to lead the Panthers in tackles. Will Witherspoon is the other OLB, he led the Panthers in tackles with 103. Carolina has one of the most explosive secondaries, with newcomer Ken Lucas starting at corner, he had an exceptional year with the Seahawks. Chris Gamble had a very impressive rookie campaign with 66 tackles and 6 interceptions. Ricky Manning and Chris Gamble will battle for the nickel spot, but it looks like Ricky Manning will be the nickelback. Mike Minter is moving from Strong Safety to Free Safety and rookie Thomas Davis will start at Strong Safety. John Kasay returns as the kicker and Jason Baker will take over as punter for Todd Sauerbrun.

Well, it was 2 am, I wasn't thinking right. I thought I clicked "New Save" but I clicked the Redskins Franchise.

I didn't even notice it until I woke up the following day.

                  Keys VS Saints

1.) Charles Grant can make his entire defense better with the pressure he creates. We have to keep him blocked all day.

2.) Lets let our "big uglies" wear down their defensive line. We could run all day if that happens.

3.) We should let Jake Delhomme get in a rhythm vs their secondary. He could have a great day against these guys.

Panthers Beat Saints in Comeback Victory
                    Defense Contains New Orleans

Charlotte, NC- The Carolina Panthers opened the 2005 season with a home victory over division rival New Orleans Saints. The Panthers offense was horrible throughout the game but got lucky in the fourth quarter. The Saints were able to contain Carolina on offense but Carolina's defense stepped up and stopped potential touchdown drives and forced 3 field goals from New Orleans. Jake Delhomme was struggling in the game and had a tough time against the New Orleans secondary. He was 8/20 but was able to connect on a lucky deep bomb to Steve Smith that got Carolina it's first touchdown of the game. DeShaun Foster had a good day, going over 100 yards and getting a touchdown. Steve Smith led the Panthers receiving corps with 4 catches for 89 yards and a touchdown. Dan Morgan led Carolina in tackles with 9, followed by rookie Thomas Davis who had 8. Julius Peppers had 6 tackles and a sack. Kris Jenkins and Brandon Short each had 3 tackles and a sack. Chris Gamble had a great game against Aaron Brooks, he had 2 tackles and 2 interceptions. Mike Minter had a tackle and the other interception.

Aaron Brooks had a tough time against the impressive Panthers defense, he went 9/21 for 93 yards and 3 interceptions. Deuce McAllister was shut down for the most part, he had 25 rushes for 70 yards. Joe Horn had 3 receptions for 36 yards and Donte Stallworth had 3 receptions for 27 yards. Dwight Smith led the Saints on defense with 8 tackles. Charles Grant and Courtney Watson each had 5 tackles. Jay Bellamy and Fakhir Brown both had interceptions off Jake Delhomme. James Allen had a fumble recovery on a Steve Smith muffed punt, which led to a field goal.

                        Keys VS Patriots

1.) Jake Delhomme should be able to dominate their secondary. Keep them guessing all day.

2.) Tom Brady has to be pressured. Maybe then we can force him to make mistakes.

3.) Have our TE punish Eugene Wilson. Make him play physical all day long.

Carolina Loses to New England in Heartbreaker
                              Coach Fox Blames All-Madden Difficulty

Charlotte, NC- The Carolina Panthers came into the 2003 Super Bowl Rematch looking for a victory to show that they could have won that game against New England. Carolina had a very nice opening drive that spanned 14 plays and 80 yards that took up 6:43 on the clock. Panther fans were excited until the following kickoff where Bethel Johnson returned the kick 92 yards for a touchdown. Carolina struck back in the 2nd quarter with a great playcall from Jake Delhomme, he ran a playaction which corner Randall Gay bit heavily on. That led to a 75 yard pitch and catch between Delhomme and Keary Colbert, their second of the day. Corey Dillon was able to scamper into the endzone before the half was over, and that was added on to the Vinatieri field goal earlier in the quarter to make the score 17-14 at half. The big play bug struck again for Carolina, as Corey Dillon broke a tackle from practically every defender and ran 71 yards for a touchdown. DeShaun Foster was able to score from the goalline early in the fourth and gave Carolina some hope. The BS happened again, when TE Daniel Graham broke 4 tackles en route to a 35 yard touchdown reception. Tom Brady did not play the second half due to an injury sustained late in the first half.
