Welcome to Aggieland: Texas A&M (NCAA 2006)

Ahhh, it's been a while, but I'm ready to start up in Dynasty HQ again!

    All the usuals...

    -7 minute quarters
-Jistic's most recent set of sliders
-I tried my best to update the rosters fully...I hope I have it as correct as possible.

You all know what's coming up.

    Welcome to Aggieland?

That is almost as bad as JagZone.

      2005 Texas A&M Aggies

One era begins, another begins its final chapter as Aggies head into 2005

COLLEGE STATION, TX-- With Oklahoma coming back down to earth this year (or so it seems), and Vince Young's super-human performance in the Rose Bowl against Michigan, everyone is saying how finally, this is the year of the Longhorns.

But not just the year that the Longhorns beat Oklahoma.

Not just the year that the Longhorns win the Big 12.

But that this is the year Texas breaks a 36-year national championship drought.

To do so would mean rolling through the Horseshoe vs. Ohio State.

They'd also have to end a five-year losing streak to the hated Sooners.

And that also means they would have to continue their 21st century dominance of their in-state rivals, the Texas A&M Aggies.

But the Aggies have other plans.

"Everyone keeps talking about Texas. Texas this, Texas that. We're under the radar. And that's fine with me," senior quarterback Reggie McNeal said in the spring.

While the McNeal era is entering its final year, the era of coach Brian Kudron is just beginning. After Dennis Franchione retired in February, citing health issues as the reason, the Aggies hired the young assistant from Michigan, to the shock of many.

"I'm a Michigan man...a Big Ten kinda guy," the youngster quipped at his introductory press conference. "But that doesn't mean my philosophy can't work here. I like to think of myself as a hybrid kind of coach, offense-wise. I'm all about the run when it comes to offense, but in different ways. I'll run option, I'll run i-form, I run QB draw...think of it like old-school Nebraska meets new-school Texas...and I'm sorry for having to compare us to those two schools."

"But, as much as offense matters, I'm a defense-first coach. Those ugly kind of games, with scores like 10-9 and 14-10. That's my cup of tea. I hang my hat on having a stout defense. It's my goal to bring the Wrecking Crew Defense back to Aggieland. I want us to eventually be #1 in every defensive category....pass D, run D, total D, scoring D, you name it, I want to be the best at it. I want the opposing offense to leave blood on the field after our defense punches them in the mouth for 60 minutes. I want them to be afraid when we punt, because they're about to have their brains beat in."

In regards to his running offense, Coach Kudron has some tools to work with. McNeal is an excellent run/pass combination, and when he departs, Stephen McGee is ready to step in. At tailback, Courtney Lewis returns after running for 742 yards and 9 TDs.

The defense isn't close to achieving Coach Kudron's dreams yet, but they have great potential, led by senior FS Jaxson Appel.

There is no doubt that Texas is the dominant team in the Big 12 right now, followed perhaps by Oklahoma and maybe Texas Tech, but Coach Kudron emphasizes that although A&M is being considered a darkhorse to win the conference, this first year is all about gaining the correct attitude and mental toughness.

"I'm not gonna lie, Texas owns this state right now. They have an edge mentally, physically...they own the state recruiting wise. Texas Tech might be better than us too. But as long as I'm here, I'm going to make sure it's the Aggies with the biggest heart, and eventually the mental edge."

Well I can't take credit for it, it's what it says at Kyle Field.

From feast to famine: Aggies collapse in 4th quarter

CLEMSON, SC-- Not exactly the start that Brian Kudron envisioned.

After three straight quarters of solid play and establishing a 16-0 lead, Texas A&M fell apart in the fourth quarter, surrendering 21 points--including two touchdowns in the final minute, and the winning touchdown from Charlie Whitehurst to Chansi Stuckey from 55 yards out with 6 seconds left--over star safety Jaxson Appel--to give Clemson an improbable 28-22 victory.

"We certainly have a lot to work on...I liked our execution through the first three quarters, but, uh....well the fourth quarter was a mess...we gave up two long scores, gave up a long drive that led to a score, couldn't move on offense....turned the ball over when we were up by two, and that led to the winning score...we got some big problems to fix," a somber Coach Kudron said in the postgame press conference.

"I thought we played well enough to win...we just didn't execute when it mattered, and the bounces went their way," Reggie McNeal commented afterwards. McNeal had 206 passing yards and 44 rushing yards, after losing over 20 yards on a game-ending sack.

"There's not much I can say...I tried to knock it down, it's not like I went for the pick or anything...I just missed it," Jaxson Appel had little to say after being burned for the winning score. He finished the game with 7 tackles.

"I'll definitely have to make some adjustments...we just flat out sucked today," Defensive Coordinator John Woodlock said disgustedly.

The Aggies look to rebound in two weeks as they have their home opener at Kyle Field against SMU. Coach Kudron has emphasized how important it is that the Aggies establish dominance at home.

You should have picked someone better than me to run your defense.

McNeal's one man show leads 37-17 win over SMU

COLLEGE STATION, TX-- It was the most glamorous of victories, but it was effective. The defense was effective, punishing SMU into the negative rushing-wise and producing five sacks. The offense started slowly, but Reggie McNeal accumulated 363 yards of total offense, and the Aggies rolled over SMU 37-17.

"This is what I'm talking about. It starts here. Homefield. Kyle Field is one of the loudest, most intimidating atmospheres in college football. I never want to lose a game here. I want opposing offenses to be confused from the get go when they come in here from the noise. And the only way it's gonna be loud is if we win," Coach Kudron praised his team in the postgame. "I thought we played well. We started off kinda slow, we fell behind 10-3. But overall I never felt like we were in trouble."

Defensive coordinator John Woodlock had good things to say about his defense, which limited SMU to 182 total yards on offense: "Much improved from our first game. The key to our defense, or at least what we WANT the key to be, is pressure. We gotta get pressure on the QB, whether it be from our line or through blitzes. If we can get heat on the QB, we'll force turnovers."

Freshman stud TE Martellus Bennett caught two touchdowns for the Aggies, and has 3 touchdowns in his first two games.

The Aggies stay home for their next game, taking on Division I-AA Texas State.
