Aggies run it up on Texas State

COLLEGE STATION, TX-- Brian Kudron tried to make it very clear in the postgame press conference.

"I by no means meant to 'run it up'. We simply called plays that aligned with our philosophy, and we executed to perfection. I hope the coaches and players at Texas State realize that we were not trying to humilate them, and that we are a classy organization," the A&M coach explained after his Aggies broke T-State down 87-10 at Kyle Field.

The Aggies were unstoppable in every aspect, outgaining Texas State in total offense 637-283. A&M ran for 485 yards, while allowing only 11 on the ground on defense. Reggie McNeal was a star for the second straight game, passing for 152 yards and 3 scores while running for 102 and 2 more scores. Courtney Lewis and Jorvorskie Lane both had 100 yards rushing and 2 TDs each, and backup QB Stephen McGee scored on a 74 yard run.

"Today was probably the best it's gonna get for us this year...when we get start to perform like this on offense against the Oklahomas and Texases of the world, then we'll be where we want to be," offensive coordinator Tyler Coleman explained to the press.

"Defensively...I thought we could be better. I loved the pressure we got, and obviously the run defense was impenetrable. But the pass defense was exploited. I'm not sure if it's just the system they run, but I'm not really happy just yet." -Defensive coordinator John Woodlock.

The Aggies open up Big 12 play next week at home against the Baylor Bears.

Young heroes emerge as Aggies pull off miraculous comeback

COLLEGE STATION, TX-- For three quarters, the Aggies were terrible.

The players couldn't execute, and were bickering on the sidelines.

The coaches were screaming at players all day, and occasionally at each other.

Reggie McNeal--who had a combined 617 yards of offense in the past two games--was lost on A&M's 2nd series due to a bruised ankle. Baylor safeties Maurice Lane and Willie Andrews were all over the place.

The play that seemingly epitomized the day came after Courtney Lewis's fourth quarter TD that brought the Aggies to within 28-14. SS Melvin Bullitt came down with his third interception just inside Aggie territory, but then had the ball pulled out of his hands, and Baylor got it back. It just seemed like that kind of day. But two plays later, when Shaun Bell looked for a kill shot and fired downfield, defensive captain Jaxson Appel jumped the route, picked it off and was gone, 77 yards for a touchdown. The 12th Man at Kyle Field rose up, and Baylor was doomed.

After the Aggies tied it at 28 and got the ball back with roughly 1:00 left, redshirt freshman Stephen McGee scrambled for 12 yards, and after a penalty that set them back to the 35, McGee found true freshman tight end Martellus Bennett at midfield. Lane--the Baylor safety who made so many plays--missed the ball trying to break it up. CB Anthony Arline caught Bennett and tried to pull him down. Arline is 6'2, 193. Bennett is 6'7, 248. Bennett easilly shook him off, and was gone, 65 yards for a score with 39 seconds left. And the Aggies had completed the comeback, down 28-7 after three, winning the game 35-28.

"Well...heh, this certainly was an interesting one, wasn't it? Obviously I'm not entirely pleased with our effort today...Reggie McNeal is okay, he'll be in there next week...we still shouldn't have fallen behind like we did, but I'm extremely pleased with the heart and determination we showed out there. But we got some things to fix." -Head Coach Brian Kudron.

"I knew we could move the ball, I mean look at the stats. 522 total yards...259 rushing, 263 passing. It was just a matter of scoring. We had two crucial turnovers...Stephen threw a pick in the endzone, and we lost a fumble in the redzone...we stopped that in the fourth, and we finally punched through." -Offensive Coordinator Tyler Coleman.

"This was definitely our most up and down performance....5 sacks, 5 interceptions, a recovered fumble, 49 rushing yards allowed...we gave up more yards through the air but hey, what can you say about Jaxson? He turned the tides with that play. He gets game ball!" -Defensive Coordinator John Woodlock.

The Aggies have a tough road test next week, taking on Colorado in Boulder.

You had McNeal in there in the 4th up 66-10? And you passed? I've lost all respect for you

Aggies play comeback kids again vs. Colorado

BOULDER, CO-- Lets hope the Aggies don't make a habit out of these close games. Otherwise they're gonna cause a lot of heart problems back home in College Station.

For the second straight week the Aggies fell behind big, this time 17-0 to the Buffaloes on the road. But they used their punishing running game and big play passing game to once again rally, shutting out Colorado in the second half, and Courtney Lewis's 20 yard TD with 2:32 left provided the winning 24-17 margin.

Colorado had one last shot as they had it at A&M's 32 yard line with 3 seconds left, and they completed a pass, but Blake Mackey was tackled two yards short of the endzone.

"First off, I'd like to apologize to our fans...I know we're causing a lot of heartache with our last two games, but we won, and that's what counts. Not much else to say about this one that I didn't say last week, we were pretty bad in the first half, and as bad as we were then we were that good in the second half. Hopefully we'll crack the Top 25 rankings soon, cause I think that this team deserves it." -Head Coach Brian Kudron.

"We didn't have a lot of turnover problems, we got picked off on a long bomb that was essentially a punt...for the most part we just couldn't execute, we got shut down pretty good in the first half...but in the second half we got goin, Reggie ran for almost 150, Courtney almost had 100. Our passing game isn't running at 100% yet, but we had a couple long TD passes. Still got some kinks to work out." -Offense Coordinator Tyler Coleman.

"Our run D came back down to earth today, we got shredded pretty hard in the first half, especially on the first TD...we clamped down a bit in the second half, made a couple big stops that helped our comeback and helped preserve the lead...I wasn't happy with the last drive, we let them get in a position to tie it, luckily we stopped them at the end." -Defensive Coordinator John Woodlock.

"I never thought we were going to lose." -Quarterback Reggie McNeal.

The Aggies return home to Kyle Field next week, taking on the Cowboys of Oklahoma State.

Aggies have to work for it, but they protect Kyle Field vs. OSU

COLLEGE STATION, TX-- Eventually these slow starts will catch up with the Aggies.

The Cowboys of Oklahoma State jumped out to a quick 14-0 lead and held leads of 21-10 and 27-26 late in the third quarter before the Aggies scored the final 17 points in a 43-27 victory, pulling within one victory of bowl eligibility.

"Of course looking at the stats it looks like we handled them pretty good, but that wasn't the case. They forced a few turnovers, Reggie didn't have his best game, but he had that killer instinct to finish the job...we still have some problems to correct, and it only gets harder as we move on in our schedule." -Head Coach Brian Kudron.

"The turnovers hurt us, obviously. But other than that we moved the ball pretty much at will...just gotta take care of the ball." -Offensive Coordinator Tyler Coleman.

"I was pretty pleased with the defense...under 100 yards rushing, five sacks...we gave up four touchdowns in the air, but it was a good game for us. The turnovers put us in bad field position, and we gave up points...but we'll improve." -Defensive Coordinator John Woodlock.

The Aggies face an interesting test next week, @ Kansas State. The Wildcats have fallen on hard times, but they've been a power for most of the last decade.
