Re: NBA 2K3 Franchise - Wizards

The Washington Wizards add another win as they improve to 27-4 by beating the Spurs in a close one 101-99.

Tony Parker had a chance to tie the game and send it into overtime with a 3 ft. hook shot that went in and out, and MCI Center was rockin'.

Washington got a surprise performance out of Larry Hughes who scored 20 points on 10-11 shooting and had 7 ast., 2 reb and 3 steals to go with it.

Jerry Stackhouse had another strong night offensively despite shooting horribly in the fourth quarter (3-8) and ended up with 31 points.

For the Spurs Tony Parker and Tim Duncan both had 19 points (Parker wishes he had 21), Parker also had 9 ast. and Duncan pulled down 7 rebounds

David Robinson had an excellent game scoring 18 points and cleaning the glass for 11 rebounds for a double double. Too bad his performance couldn't translate into a win for his team.

Washington did not get much of a contribution from their big men offensively but they helped the Wizards outrebound the Spurs 34-32 and 15-8 on the offensive glass.

Great win for the Wizards who head out to Chicago to play the Bulls.

Re: NBA 2K3 Franchise - Wizards

In a very close game the Wizards downed the Bulls in OT 98-95

But the joy of victory may have been muffled a little because of a bruised hip suffered by P.J. Brown leaving Brendan Haywood, Kwame Brown, Christian Laettner, and Chris Gatling left as the only frontcourt players for the team. Definitely not a position coach Don Mega wants to be in.
Gatling and K. Brown have both gotten themselves in the dog house for poor play recently. The Wizards need to either get better playing out of their frontcourt or make some moves for better talent because if an injury should occor to one of their guards they would be hard pressed to find ways to score.

Jay Williams hit a 3 pointer at the end of regulation to force the extra period. In OT it was a very heated battle with not much scoring from either team, but the Wizards prevailed.

It's interesting how the Wizards can pull off a 101-99 defeat of the Spurs and get sucked into an extra period with the Bulls.

For the Wizards no one really had an outstanding game.

Stackhouse ended up with 29 points (17 of them quietly in the first 1 1/2 quarters of play) but Michael Jordan proved to be the shining light for the Wizards with 20 points, and key baskets down the stretch in the fourth quarter and in overtime.

Donyell Marshall and Jay Willams had outstanding games and have to feel confident they did what they could to help their team win.

Williams had 26 points and 10 ast. and Marshall had 24 points and 13 boards but it wasn't enough to get their team the win.

The Wizards add another win to their season total and now stand at 28-4.

Coach Don Mega had some comments after the game mainly referring to the lack of effort and pride on the part of Kwame Brown and Chris Gatling as far as contributing to the team. "They don't have to score 20 points a game but at least grab some rebounds, block a shot, hustle for a loose ball... [expletive] do something!"

Washington will head back home to face the 15-17 Pacers to begin a 4 game homestand. After the Pacers they face the Celtics, Bulls, and then the Warriors

Re: NBA 2K3 Franchise - Wizards

The Wizards squared off against the Indiana Pacers tonight looking to extend their winning streak to 8 games. It didn't look to good as the Wizards were getting outshot and outrebounded in the first quarter and were down by 8 going into the second. By halftime it wasn't looking too good for the home team as they trailed 54-31 at the break. They could not get it together defensively or offensively as they continuously turned the ball over, and got embarrased in front of the home crowd for the entire first half.

Washington got out the gate fast starting off with a 6-1 run but it turned south quickly. Jermaine O' Neal (17 pts. 13 reb.) was scoring down low, Reggie Miller (27 pts. 3/6 3pt.) was having his way on offense, and the Pacers were seemingly on their way to a victory.

After the break the Wizards came out in a 2-3 zone defensively and had some success with it on limiting Indiana's open looks. Larry Hughes who had not scored in the entire first half had 10 points in the period, all of them dunks, to get the crowd into the game and help the Wizards outscore Indiana 30-24 in the third.

When the fourth quarter rolled around the Wizards came out playing like a new team. They were forcing turnovers, giving Indiana next too nothing as far as clean looks at the basket and held the Pacers to 6-16 shooting while they shot 15-23 and outscored Indiana 33-13 to capture the 3 point win 97-94 and get their 29th win of the year.

Here are the stats for the outstanding players for Washington

Larry Hughes 20 points 10 assists 6 steals
Jerry Stackhouse 20 points 7 rebounds
Brandan Haywood 12 points 13 rebounds

The Wizards stay at home to face the Boston Celtics next in what should be an exciting game.

I haven't posted the results of my last three games. The game against Boston was in Boston, that was a mistake on my part. The WIzards lost that game 103-101 and the Celtics were led by Paul Pierce who had to pick up the scoring in the absence of Antoine Walker. He had 45 points and 9 rebounds in an outstanding individual effort on his part.

After the Celtics the Wizards came home and blew out the Bulls and Warriors and their record now stands at 31-5 and their next game is against the Raptors who they have split the season series so far 1-1.

Note: P.J. Brown is once again healthy but Wizard officials have not decided who will go to the injured list in place of him.

Once again I posted incorrectly, the Wizards next game was against the Knicks and it was a close one.

Allan Houston had 33 points but he so desperately needed 35 as the Wizards held off the Knicks 100-98 after blowing a 10 point lead going into the 4th Quarter.

The Washington Wizards got a blowout victory against the Raptors 83-62 behind 39 points for Jerry Stackhouse and 19 for MJ. The high schorer and the only one doing anything for TOronto was Carter who had 25. The Game was close (and very low scoring) until the 4th quarter when the Wizards were able to blow it open.

Their next game is against the Orlando Majic.

Injury Note - Christian Laetnerr has recovered from a ankle sprain that kept him out for 5 days, and will be activated today. Dion Glover will be put on IR in his place.
