        Army Beats Back Pesky Eagles, Advances To NCAA Tourny, 68-60

        First Half

        Hardaway puts in a layup and Grant sinks a jumper then after Bey slams in a dunk on a fast break, Grant drains a turnaround jumper. Jacobson drills a 3pter then Bey and Grant trade jumpers as American takes an 8-7 lead with just under 15:00 remaining. Grant puts in a layup then van de Laar sinks a jumper and after Gruber and Viegas trade layups, Grant banks in a hook to give the Eagles a three point lead, 14-11, halfway through the opening half. Jacobson and Parkinson trade 3pters then after Jacobson hits another 3pter to tie the game, Hardaway drops in a couple of layups to give American the lead. Viegas swishes a turnaround jumper and after Waters lays in a rebound, Viegas hits a hook to pull Army to within a basket, 23-21, with 5:00 left. Hardaway banks in a jumper then after Viegas drains a hook, Jacobson and Munir trade layups. Jacobson sinks a 3pter and after Gruber puts in a layup, Jacobson drops in another 3pter to give the Black Knights the lead. Viegas makes two free throws and van de Laar banks in a layup on a fast break then Gruber swishes a short turnaround jumper to pull the Eagles to within four at the half. Army's Jacobson leads all scorers with 17 points and Grant leads American with 10.

        Second Half
        Munir makes two free throws and after Jacobson banks in a layup and van de Laar jams in a dunk on a fast break, Akingbala banks in a couple of layups. Akingbala cans 1 of 2 free throws then van de Laar banks in a layup to give Army a three point lead, 41-38, with 15:00 remaining. Grant and van de Laar trade jumpers and after Jacobson nails a 3pter, Bey drops in a jumper. Waters and Viegas trade making 1 of 2 free throws then after Waters puts in a layup, Hardaway and Jacobson trade 3pters as the Black Knights lead by six, 52-46, midway through the second half. Hardaway makes two free throws then after Hardaway cans 1 of 2 free throws, Norwood and Goodman both nail jumpers. Munir puts in a layup on a fast break then Bey lays in a rebound to give Army a seven point lead, 58-51, with 5:00 left. Akingbala makes 1 of 2 free throws and after van de Laar hits a 3pter, Akingbala lays in a rebound. Jacobson and Gruber trade jumpers then afater Jacobson nails a 3pter, Akingbala banks in a layup. Hardaway buries a jumper with 42.1 seconds to go and American starts fouling. With 38.1 seconds to play, Goodman misses the front end of the 1-and-1 but Jacobson grabs the rebound and lays it in to ice the game and send the Black Knights to the NCAA tournament for the second time in Army history.

                  First Half

                  Bush and Collum sink jumpers then after Pait slams in a dunk, Bush hits a turnaround jumper to give Georgia an 8-0 lead with just under 15:00 remaining. Wooden converts a 3-point play and after Jacobson buries a jumper and van de Laar drills a 3pter, Pait makes 1 of 2 free throws. Jacobson and van de Laar put in layups then after Bey cans 1 of 2 free throws, Wooden drops in a layup. Bey drains 1 of 2 free throws then Collum sinks a jumper to give the Bulldogs a five point lead, 16-11, halfway through the first half. George buries a jumper then after Collum and George trade 3pters, Pait makes two free throws. Bird drops in a layup and after Jacobson cans a pair of free throws, Pait tips in a rebound. Wooden and Granger bank in layups to give Georgia a seven point lead, 27-20, with just under 5:00 left. Wooden puts in a layup and Dudley sinks a short jumper and after Viegas slams in a dunk on a fast break, Wooden buries a jumper. Bey and Jacobson hit 3pters then Dudley drops in a layup. Bey nails a short jumper then Pait banks in a layup to give the Bulldogs an eight point lead at the half. Georgia's Wooden leads all scorers with 11 points and Jacobson leads Army with 9.

                  Second Half
                  Jacobson hits a 3pter then after Wooden sinks a jumper, Bush banks in a layup and tips in a rebound. Jacobson nails a jumper and Viegas tips in a rebound and after Bush drains a hook, Jacobson drills a pair of 3pters to pull Army to within three, 46-43, with 15:00 remaining. Jacobson buries another 3pter to tie the game then after Goodman and Collum trade layups, Jacobson buries yet another 3pter. van de Laar makes two free throws and George cans 1 of 2 free throws to give the Black Knights a six point lead, 54-48, midway through the second half. George banks in a layup and after Quick sinks a turnaround jumper, Bird banks in a layup. Collum drills a 3pter to pull Georgia to within five, 58-53, with just under 5:00 left. Wooden drops in a short jumper and after Doyle nails a 3pter, Wooden and Bush sink jumpers. With less than 35 seconds to go, the Bulldogs start fouling and sends Goodman to the line with 33.9 seconds to play. Goodman drains both ends of the 1-and-1 then after Bush tips in a rebound, Georgia fouls van de Laar with 6.6 seconds on the clock. van de Laar makes the front end of the 1-and-1 but misses the second. Collum shoots a 3-point attempt at the buzzer for the tie but it bounces off the front of the rim and Army UPSETS Georgia to advance to the second round for the first time.

                      First Half

                      Jacobson makes 1 of 2 free throws then after Quick cans two free throws, Jacobson hits a 3pter. Quick slams in a dunk after a rebound and after Bey and Blackgrove trade jumpers, Troutman drains two free throws to give North Carolina an 8-6 lead with just under 15:00 remaining. Blackgrove tips in a rebound and Quick swishes a hook then Barlett hits a short turnaround jumper and Troutman makes two free throws. Goodman banks in a layup on a fast break then both Barlett and Quick bury 1 of 2 free throws to give the Tar Heels a ten point lead, 18-8, halfway through the opening period. Barlett and Quick put in layups and after Viegas hits 1 of 2 free throws, van de Laar and Ariza trade layups. Halsch banks in a couple of layups on fast breaks then after Montgomery knocks down a turnaround jumper, Goodman makes 1 of 2 free throws. Goodman and van de Laar both bank in layups on fast breaks to pull Army to within ten, 28-18, with 5:00 left. Ariza slams in a couple of dunks on fast breaks and Halsch makes 1 of 2 free throws then after Halsch and Quick stuff in dunks, Montgomery swishes a hook. Viegas slams in a dunk on a fast break then Troutman and Halsch put in layups on fast breaks. Barlett converts a 3-point play then Norwood banks in a layup to pull the Black Knights to within 20 points at the half. North Carolina's Quick leads all scorers with 11 points and Goodman leads Army with 5.

                      Black puts in a layup and Barlett makes two free throws then after van de Laar and Atkins trade jumpers, van de Laar and Blackgrove trade 3pters. Ariza slams in a dunk then Bey and Halsch trade jumpers as North Carolina increases their lead to 26, 57-31, with 15:00 remaining. Atkins buries a turnaround jumper and after Jacobson hits a 3pter, Blackgrove drains a runner. Jacobson knocks down a jumper then after Atkins puts in a layup, Jacobson sinks a 3pter and a jumper to pull Army to within 22, 63-41, midway through the second half. Blackgrove puts in a layup on a fast break and makes two free throws then after Jacobson and Halsch trade layups, Blackgrove nails a jumper. Flores and Blackgrove bank in layups on fast breaks then Norwood drops in a short jumper to pull the Black Knights to within 30, 75-45, with 5:00 left. Goodman and Bakinde trade layups and after Bey and Atkins trade jumpers, Flores makes 1 of 2 free throws to end the game as the Tar Heels send the Black Knights home.

                                Norfolk, VA - It was announced today at the Consant Convocation Center in Norfolk, Virginia that coach Bob Knight has signed a 2-year contract to become the head coach of the Old Dominion Monarchs of the Colonial Athletic Association.

                                "I wish to thank the Army military academy at West Point for their support the last five seasons and wish the basketball program the best of luck in the future. I will miss the academy, the players and the fans." coach Knight stated. "I would also like to thank the AD at Old Dominion University the opportunity to continue the success of coach Taylor and to bring the Monarchs back to the NCAA tournament."
