New General Of College Hoops (CH2k7)

    Game: College Hoops 2k7
    Difficulty: Jistic's All-American Sliders
    Half Length: 15 Minutes
    System: X-Box 360
    Dynasty Mode: Closed/Career

I already have about half of my first season played, but I have all my games/news storys tracked so far throughout the season. I'll probably only post a few games a day for the first few days so it's not overwhelming to go through 30 posts all at once lol...

    Columbia Hires New Head Coach
    4/30/2006

The Columbia Lions athletic director announced today that he has hired Tim Sheehan as the new head coach of the basketball team.

Sheehan has no college coaching experience, however his knowledge, enthuisiasm, and love for the game was enough to persuade the AD to make him the next head coach of the program.

"I'm really looking forward to this opportunity," Sheehan said.

"I feel that this team can legitimately contend for the Ivy League Championship. There's tons of talent and potential on this team, it just hasn't been tapped yet."

Sheehan definitely has lofty goals for a team that's in a conference that has been dominated by Princeton and Penn forever. We'll see if he can make good on these goals this upcoming season.

Re: New General Of College Hoops (CH2k7)

        Columbia Starting Five

        PG Brett Loscalzo
        6' 180 lbs, Junior
-Loscalzo isn't the most efficient shooter, but he's excellent ball handler and has the speed to push the ball down the floor when the opportunity presents itself. He's also the best defensive guard on the team. He maybe undersized, but that won't stop him from swiping the ball from opposing players.

        SG Daniel Trepanier
        6'2, 180 lbs, Sophomore
-Trepanier was the surprise in the starting lineup, as many expected the incumbent starter Mack Montgomery to get the nod. However, Sheehan believes that they need a player like Trepanier who can drain the three ball at anytime. Trepanier is a sharpshooter, no doubt, but that's about it. He's nothing more than a pure scorer.

        SF Justin Armstrong
        6'4, 225 lbs, Junior
-Armstrong is a role-player on this team. He doesn't have the ability to be a consistant shooter, drive to the rim on a regular basis, or post-up. But he can hit an open shot, and will hustle to get rebounds and loose balls.

        PF John Baumann
        6'8, 220 lbs, Junior
-Baumann is a solid power forward for the Ivy League. He's not a dominant low post player, but he takes advantage of small opponents. He can also creep out and hit a three occasionally. Baumann's better without the ball, he's a good rebound, and probably the best defender on the team. He has very good hands and can create many turnovers for his opponents.

        C Ben Nwachukwu
        6'9, 235 lbs, Junior
-Nwachukwu can be a dominant force when he wants to be. He's got a size and strength advantage over many low/mid-major teams, and has a very solid low post game. He's also a very good rebounder. He has the potential to be a double-double guy if he puts his mind to it, but he tends to take games off. The best way to defend Nwachukwu is to draw him away from the paint, as he doesn't have any jump shot to speak of.

        Reserves
        G Kashif Sweet, Junior
        G K.J. Matsui, Sophomore
        G Patrick Foley, Freshman
        G Kevin Bulger, Freshman
        F Leo Nolan, Sophomore
        G Mack Montgomery, Junior
        G Wesley Matthews, Freshman
        F Joe Bova, Sophomore
        F Michael Gately, Freshman
        G Nico Scott, Freshman

              Trepanier Injured, Listed As Day-to-Day

Columbia shooting guard Daniel Trepanier was injured in Thursday's loss to Duke.

While attempting to block a shot in the second half, Trepanier bent his wrist back awkwardly and was in obvious pain. He was taken off the court to recieve medical assistance, and did not return.

The diagnosis is a sprained wrist. An MRI will be taken on the injury tomorrow to make sure there's no structural damage.

If it is only a strain, Trepanier is hoping to be able to play with the injury next week against N.J.I.T. in the Columbia Classic.

                  Montgomery Named New Starter
                  11/19/2006

Columbia head coach Tim Sheehan has made the decision to send sophomore guard Daniel Trepanier to the bench in favor of the more experienced Mack Montgomery.

Montgomery was expected to be the starter going into the season, but Sheehan instead went with the sharpshooter, Trepanier. Trepanier has been anything but sharp so far, however, so Sheehan has decided to go with Montgomery.

Trepanier has been playing with a sprained wrist which he says is part of the reason why he isn't shooting well. However, Sheehan would now guarantee Trepanier would return to the starting lineup when healthy.

Lions Make Scholarship Offers To Two Recruits
                    11/19/2006

Columbia head coach Tim Sheehan has offered scholarships to Patrick Irvin and Andre Goodwin this past week.

Andre Goodwin is a 6'7, 234 lbs power forward out of a high school in the Bronx. Scouts say he has a decent jump shot and does a good job boxing out for the rebound. He's very raw at this point, but he has the potential to be a very good player. Scouts Inc. has him rated among the top 150 power forward recruits in the nation.

A lot less is known about Irvin. He's an undersized power forward that is currently playing in Puerto Rico. Scouts who have seen him on tape say he's got an excellent jump shot and plays every second like it's his last, but scouts also say without being able to see him live, it would be a risky decision to sign him, especially considering the quality of play is much better over here. However, small programs like Columbia sometimes have to take these risks if they want to contend.

The signing period for high school seniors is this upcoming week. We'll break news if either one of these recruits signs with Columbia, or somebody else. If they don't sign this week, they'll have to wait until after the season.

Another Roster Shake-Up For the Lions
                          11/26/2006

One week ago Daniel Trepanier was removed from the starting lineup due to his lackluster performance. Today, he was awarded his spot back after scoring 19 points and hitting five three-pointers against Stony Brook this past week.

Trepanier will take the place of Mack Montgomery, who took Trepanier's place just last week. Montgomery hasn't contributed much to the offense since returning to the starting lineup.

Also, Nico Scott will be replacing Justin Armstrong in the starting lineup when Columbia takes the floor against Providence next week. Sheehan said that the Stony Brook game showed that this team just needs an offensive spark to get things rolling, and he feels Scott is that spark they need.

Sheehan hopes that K.J. Matsui can be part of that spark as well. After his 24 points against Stony Brook, Sheehan says that Matsui will definitely have a bigger role in games throughout the rest of the season.

With Trepanier, Scott, and Matsui moving up the depth chart, it seems like Montgomery's playing time will be cut drastically, as well as Wesley Matthews. It should be interesting to see how this will effect the team and it's chemistry, but one thing's for sure, it can't get much worse.
