            Atlanta Completes the Sweep
John Smoltz & Tom Glavine stole the show
            Braves 3, Mets 2

Friends and former teammates, Smoltz & Glavine
pitched well for the respective squads in the finale

Atlanta, GA -- In a series that featured two of the more high octane offenses in the National League, one would figure more runs would have been scored. Instead, pitching continued to be the tale of the series, as John Smoltz went eight strong for the Braves and Tom Glavine pitched well for 6.2 innings for New York.

The Mets took an early lead thanks to Carlos Delgado's second bomb of the young season. The two run advantage was only the second lead New York has had over Atlanta this season, and it lasted about as long as the first. Brian McCann answered with a homerun of his own in the seventh inning, and the game was knotted at two.

Neither Smoltz or Glavine walked away with a decision, and the games was left in the hands of the bullpens. Bob Wickman pitched a flawless ninth for the Bravos, and Guillermo Mota was set to take the bump in the bottom half for the Metropolitans. After Kelly Johnson and Edgar Renteria were both retired, good ol' Larry came to the plate. On the first pitch he saw from Mota, Chipper went yard and walked off into the sunset as a hero in Atlanta.

            WP: Bob Wickman (1-0) - IP, 0 H
            LP: Guillermo Mota (0-2) - 1.1 IP, H, ER
            - John Smoltz (ATL) - 8 IP, 2 K, 3 H, 2 ER
            - Tom Glavine (NYM) - 6.2 IP, 5 K, 4 H, 2 ER

            Chipper Jones - 3-4, 2B, Walk-Off HR (2)
            Brian McCann - 1-3, HR (1), 2 RBI

            Carlos Delgado - 1-4, HR (2), 2 RBI

            Record: 5-1

Braves Blank Nats in Series Opener
Jeff Francoeur hits team-leading third HR
              Braves 3, Nationals 0

Fan-favorite Francoeur recorded a double and a homerun

Atlanta, GA -- Tim Hudson and Shawn Hill took the hill for their respective teams as the Braves and Nationals started their series in Atlanta. Offense seems to have been a struggle for Atlanta as of late, and this one was no different, as three total runs were scored in the contest.

The Braves took an early lead behind the work of Hudson on the mound and Jeff Francoeur at the dish. The rightfielder hit a double in his first at-bat, then homered in his second. Ryan Langerhans added an RBI-double a few innings later, and that was all she wrote for offense in this one.

Hudson pitched well for seven innings before exiting with only one strikeout and six hits allowed. His counterpart, Hill, also pitched well for seven innings. The righthander recorded 5 K's and allowed just five hits on the day. Bob Wickman handled the closing duties for Atlanta and recorded his second save of the season.

              WP: Tim Hudson (1-0) - 7 IP, K, 6 H
              LP: Shawn Hill (0-1) - 7 IP, 5 K, 5 H, ER
              S: Bob Wickman (2)

              Kelly Johnson - 2-4
              Jeff Francoeur - 2-3, 2B, HR (3)
              Ryan Langerhans - 1-3, 2B, RBI

Nationals Steal One in the Ninth
Bob Wickman surrendered 4 ER in ninth inning
                Braves 6, Nationals 7

Ryan Church was 3-4 with two doubles on the afternoon

Atlanta, GA -- Everything was perfect in Atlanta for eight innings. A 6-3 lead behind a good outing from Chuck James, excellent hitting for the first time in games, and Bob Wickman coming in to close the door on the bottom-feeders of the National League East. Then hell broke loose.

Washington absolutely exploded in the ninth inning, getting six straight hits and scoring four runs to gain the lead late in the ball game. Alex Escobar, who finished the day only 1-5 at the plate, capped off the rally by hitting a single up the middle to score the eventual game winning run.

Braves skipper, Bobby Cox, was anything but pleased with the collapse of his team. "It looks all too familiar, just like 2006 all over again," said the manager.

And to think Wickman was supposed to be the SOLUTION to Atlanta's bullpen problems.

                  Tough loss man.

Final Game vs. Washington Rained Out
Make Up Date To Be Announced

The final game of the three game series against the Washington Nationals was two innings deep when the umpires deemed the game to be unplayable due to weather. The Nationals were actually cruising along towards their second victory in as many games, but will have to start from scratch later in the season. No make up date has been announced.

                      Marlins Drown Braves with Offense
Florida put together eighteen hits on the afternoon
                      Braves 6, Marlins 13

Hanley Ramirez put together a huge game against Atlanta

Atlanta, GA -- In 2006, the Marlins were a great story, but nobody really took them seriously. This year, it appears Florida is looking to change that, as the 1st place squad stands at 8-1 coming into the series against the Braves.

The first inning alone was brutal for Kyle Davies and Atlanta, as Hanley Ramirez homered on the very first pitch he saw. Things only went downhill from there, and Ramirez homered again in his next at bat. The shortstop finished just a single away from the cycle, and gave the Braves all kinds of fits on the basepaths, as well. In all honesty, not much needs to be said about this one except the Marlins are no longer pretenders.

Braves Skid Continues as Marlins Win Again
Atlanta's pitching has been brutal for the past few games
                            Braves 3, Marlins 6

The smiles were few and far between for Tim Hudson

Atlanta, GA -- Ordinarily, a pitching matchup of Tim Hudson and Dontrelle Willis would be something to look forward to. However, Hudson didn't exactly bring his A-game to the ballpark against the Marlins, as the veteran righthanded hurler gave up six earned runs in his six innings of work. Willis pitched well, though, scattering ten hits in his just over five innings of work.

The Marlins were again fueled by the long ball at Turner Field, and the Braves' comeback attempt was too little too late. A Chipper Jones homerun in the eighth gave hometown fans something to smile about, but the Marlins ultimately won the contest.

                            WP: Dontrelle Willis (2-0) - 5.2 IP, K, 10 H, 3 ER

John Smoltz struck out seven Marlins in the win

Atlanta, GA -- John Smoltz and Scott Olsen matched up in what turned out to be quite a ball game in Atlanta. Despite the Braves' ability to get numerous hits, they were scattered throughout the contest, and no real threats were presented on offense for either team.

Smoltz was sensational in his outing, going all nine and tossing a shutout. The veteran K'd seven batters on the afternoon, and only gave up four hits in the effort. His opposition, Olsen, K'd five of his own, but made one fatal mistake. In the bottom of the ninth inning, with the Braves' hottest hitter at the plate, Olsen left a fastball about waist-high over the plate. Jeff Francoeur doesn't miss many of those, and took the offering over the left field fence for a walkoff homerun and a Braves victory.
