Re: Boston Red Sox (MLB 07: The Show)

            Reaching for Roger?
Red Sox GM Theo Epstein addresses the Roger Clemens situation

            April 13, 2007

BOSTON, MA - The rumors actually started last year. As 2006 progressed, it was obvious the Red Sox had pitching issues, and needed an upgrade of some kind. There were no viable trades available...but Roger Clemens was.

Ultimately of course, the sure-fire Hall of Famer chose to spend the second half of the 2006 season with the Astros once again. And once again, his 7-6 record did not reflect his performance, as the Astros hung him out to dry time and again.

So once again, as the 2007 season gets going, Clemens is out there, a free agent. He is 44 years old, and would literally be a hired gun for whatever team convinces him to play; a 20 million dollar mercenary.

So what does Red Sox GM Theo Epstein have to say about it?

"We've been in constant contact with Roger. He says he's going to wait for the opportunity to present itself to him, and I didn't press him for a timetable. It's assumed it'll be us, Houston or New York, if he chooses to play. So we'll keep in touch with him, because we are definitely interested," the young Epstein said to reporters Friday.

It is easy to assume that at this point winning is Clemens' #1 priority. The Yankees are currently 4-5, but will be in the thick of it all year. The Red Sox are 6-3, half a game behind Toronto in the AL East early on. The Astros - thought to be the frontrunner for Clemens' services - are 5-4.

There are the variables - Houston would accomodate Clemens' schedule and not require him to travel with the team when he's not pitching, which is not something Boston or New York would do. The Yankees' signing of Andy Pettitte may have been a planned move on New York GM Brian Cashman's part in an attempt to lure the Rocket. The prospect of joining Curt Schilling in Boston's rotation and bringing his career full circle with the Red Sox must appeal to Clemens, as well. There is an obvious gap in Boston's rotation, with reliever Julian Tavarez serving as a starter for now. That spot may have Clemens' name on it.

Sorry, guess I should've been specific, lol.

He was called out on a close play at first and got thrown out for arguing.
