Re: Boston Red Sox (MLB 07: The Show)
Trade Deadline 2007
Red Sox strengthen bullpen & outfield at deadline
Addition of Gonzalez and Byrnes solidifies team for playoff run
July 31, 2007
BOSTON, MA - While the entire Red Sox team spent July 30th and most of the day today resting (before tonight's game vs. Baltimore), GM Theo Epstein completed the paperwork and phone calls required in strengthening his team.
Epstein's first call was to Atlanta GM John Schuerholz about the availability of coveted left-handed reliever Mike Gonzalez. Epstein initially had no plans of making a serious offer, but when he learned that the Yankees were "very interested", Epstein jumped in, and worked out a deal, sending RP Julian Tavarez, SP Matt Clement and SP/RP Runelvys Hernandez to the Braves in exchange for Gonzalez and two mid-level prospects.
Red Sox get:
RP Mike Gonzalez: 1-3, 2.91 ERA, 74 K, 77.1 IP
Two mid-level prospects
Braves get:
RP Julian Tavarez: 3-4, 4.02 ERA, 34 K, 62.2 IP
SP Matt Clement: 6-1, 2.70 ERA, 75 K (AAA stats)
SP/RP Runelvys Hernandez: 8-8, 2.39 ERA, 106 K (AAA stats)
---------------------------------------------------------------------
After that, Epstein had one final task to do: Unload lame duck 3rd baseman Mike Lowell, and strengten Boston's outfield. He found his guy when he called to Arizona Josh Byrnes. In a straight one-for-one deal, Boston sent Lowell to the desert in exchange for Eric Byrnes, the speedy, defensive standout in left field, who has been in a mighty rut all season. Epstein obviously hopes a change in scenery is just what he needs.
Boston gets:
LF Eric Byrnes: .223, 6 HR, 14 RBI, 9 SB
Arizona gets:
3B Mike Lowell: .258, 6 HR, 22 RBIComment

Re: Boston Red Sox (MLB 07: The Show)
Nice trades... bolstered your bullpen. As if it weren't already, you're pitching is definitely set!
Kudos on the realistic trades too.. I hate it when people pull off the big deals to get guys like Pujols, Arod, Cabrera, etc etc.
Keep up the good workComment
