Re: Boston Red Sox (MLB 07: The Show)
Clemens Watch: AAA
Clemens loses in AAA; Next stop: The Show
PAWTUCKET, RI - Only a guy as competitive as Roger Clemens could be angry about a loss in the only game he's playing for a team.
The Pawtucket Red Sox were blanked 4-0 by the Toronto Blue Jays' AAA affiliate Syracuse on a complete game by Shawn Marcum. The story though, was obviously the final tuneup game in the minor leagues for Roger Clemens before he joins the Red Sox.
The Rocket went 5 innings and 70 pitches this time, as opposed to 4 innings and 50 pitches in AA. He allowed only four hits, gave up two runs, walked one and struck out three.
"I felt much better out there today, I'm just pissed the team lost," Clemens told reporters. "I've still got a few kinks to work out, but I'm definitely ready to contribute at the major league level."
Red Sox manager Terry Francona has said Clemens will indeed be called up to replace either Jon Lester or Matt Clement. It's likely whichever pitcher performs better will keep their spot, and the other will get sent down in exchange for Clemens. As for Tim Wakefield, Francona had no comment.Comment

Re: Boston Red Sox (MLB 07: The Show)
Manny Ramirez out for season
Outfielder "felt knee pop"
ARLINGTON, TX - It was a routine fly ball. And although he tends to make them interesting, Manny Ramirez usually brings them in.
He brought this one in too, but at the last second a gust of wind blew through the ballpark, and Manny had to jump for it. He still caught it, but when he landed he immediately crumpled to the field.
The Red Sox training staff was out of the dugout in the blink of an eye, as their prized slugger laid on the ground, clutching his right knee. After a few minutes, Ramirez was helped off the field, putting no weight on his right leg whatsoever. The looks on the faces of the training staff were grim.
Shortly after the 1-0 win for the Red Sox, Terry Francona was in his office on the phone, and he got the grim news.
Manny Ramirez had torn the MCL in his right knee. His 2007 season is over.
"I guess I just came down awkwardly on it. I felt it pop, and it gave out on me. This sucks," Ramirez said in a statement released from Arlington Memorial Hospital, where he'll be getting an MRI to confirm what the Boston training staff already knows.
Both Francona and GM Theo Epstein have already been asked what they plan to do now. It seems that the short term solution is to put Wily Mo Pena in Manny's spot, both in the field and in the batting order. Pena's fielding is just about as mediocre as Manny, and although their power is comparable, Pena's also a strikeout machine. Unless he suddenly gains some discipline at the plate, it seems inevitable that some kind of trade will have to be made in the future if the Red Sox are to make the playoffs.Comment
