Road to the Majors (BM 08)

Well, since I can't keep my self entertained by simming 3 games at a time and posting, I'm going to do something a little more fun by allowing you guys to get in on it. What I'm going to do is sim a month at a time in a season, and when the amature draft comes around I'll edit the best player with the things you give me to your player and we'll follow they're career. I'm hoping on keeping this thing going at least for a few seasons. Below is an example of the things I need.

    Name:
    Position:
    High School or College:
    Overall or Potential:

Overall means that you will be the best player at the time coming out of the draft, but you won't have as much potential as some of the guys that won't be drafted as high. I'm going to see a movie tonight, so hopefully a few people will have signed up by time I get back. I'll start it once we get around 10 people signed up. By high school or college, I just need to know whether your player went to college or not for the age.

By the way, this will be a continuation of my Texas Rangers dynasty that I started, just so I don't have to start a new one.

Got both of you guys as well. There are still some great pitchers that have a good chance to start early and still have good potential *hint hint*. I'll wait until I get on tomorrow afternoon and try to have the draft results by tomorrow night.

You guys are in as well, thanks. Good thing I caught that you wanted overall, because at first I made it on potential and you wound up being friends with Barry Bonds.

Also, if anyone wants to more than likely be drafted 1st overall, you might want to be a high school starting pitcher based on overall. There are also some good high school relievers with high overalls. If you guys want to make another player in this be my guest, since not as many people signed up as I had hoped.

                    Jake Tuominen - SP - R/R - 17 years old
Drafted in the 1st round, 3rd overall
Scouting Report: Tuominen was one of the top picks in the draft based on being ready for the majors and having massive upside. He doesn't overpower, and doesn't have great command, but he has a good balance of the two. His fastball sits in the 91-93 mph range, but can get it up to 95. The velocity has a good chance of improving with age. He projects as being an All-Star very soon in his career, and being with the Cubs he has a very good chance of doing so. Also, since Ted Lilly is injured, the Cubs are taking a chance and playing Jake in the rotation as soon as he can get to Chicago.

                    Joe Pope - CF - L/L - 21 years old
Drafted in the 1st Round, 11th overall
Scouting report: Pope was the 1st position player out of college picked in the draft. He is a balance player with a potential to be a 5-tool threat. He isn't near as polished of a fielder as Aaron Rabon, the first center fielder taken, but he has better speed and makes much better contact at the plate. The Indians will start him at Double-A Akron, and hope that he will make his way through the system quickly. He is blocked by Sizemore, so he could move positions or be used as trade bait in a year or two.

                    Mike Karzemba - 3B - S/R - 21 years old
Drafted in the 1st round, 17th overall
Scouting report: Mike Karzemba is the best power hitter in this draft, without question. He could have easily been taken higher, had Scott Boras not been his agent (not joking, he is making as much as the #1 overall pick). The power potential is there, he could easily belt 35-40 home runs a year if he progresses nicely. He doesn't have great speed, and could use some better plate discipline. His health is also a concern, and is at risk to be injured at some point in his career. Lucky for him, after starting one game in triple-a, Morgan Ensberg got injured and will miss two weeks. The Astros called up Karzemba, and he will start at 3rd base for the injured Ensburg.

                    Baby G - SP - R/R - 20 years old
Drafted in the 1st round, 31st overall
Scouting Report: G is another one of those risky picks that could turn out very well, or end as a bust. He has all of the potential in the world, but he'll have to work on his control to get where he wants to be. His fastball can sit between 94-96 mph on a good day, and he has the potential to be a great power pitcher with his hard slider to back it up. It will take him a couple of years longer to reach the majors, but if the Devil Rays use him properly, he could turn out to be just as good as the pitchers taken early in the 1st round. So far they made the right step and will start him off in rookie ball.

                    Michael Wilson - 1B - L/L - 20 years old
Drafted in the 2nd round, 48th overall
Scouting report: Wilson was possibly a risky pick to take this early in the draft. Another year or two of college would have really helped his stock, but he decided to come out after hitting .448 his sophomore year. The potential is there, but if he can't learn to hit a curveball his time in the majors will not last very long. However, he does have that potential to be a great hitter, but it will take a couple of years in the minor leagues to get there. He will start at Double-A Reading.

                      Cubs Win in Tuominen's Debut

Tuominen gave up 4 runs on 12 hits in 6 2/3 innings while striking out 8 and walking 2

Chicago, IL - Jake Tuominen had the pleasure of making his debut at Wrigley Field against the New York Yankees. He got out of the first with a quick 1, 2, 3 inning. He gave up his first hit to Alex Rodriguez with a lead-off double in the 2nd inning. The next two batters walked, but the next guy popped up. Chien-Ming Wang got an infield single on a play that the 2nd baseman should have made, so the first run was given up. Cano struck out, and the next batter grounded out to the shortstop. The Cubs managed to score 2 runs in the bottom of the 3rd to take the lead. Tuominen pitched great until the 7th inning, where he gave up 3 runs to give the Yankees a 4-3 lead. Neal Cotts was brought in to relieve him with 2 outs in the 7th, ending what was a very good debut for a pitcher that was drafted two days before.

Tuominen's 2nd career start against the Nationals...
                      Code:
CHICAGO ip h bb hr r er k pit ERA
                           J. Tuominen 8.0 4 3 0 0 0 7 134 2.45
Karzemba collects first career hit in debut.

Houston, TX - Mike Karzemba, the first selection of the 2007 draft by the Houston Astros made his debut Wednesday night against the Blue Jays. He managed to get his 1st hit in the 5th inning with a blooper over the 2nd baseman's head. He finished the game 1-4 with a single and a strikeout.
