Re: Sim Only - Career of Dale Yates (CHoops 2k7)

After six seasons at Army, Dale Yates decided it was time to move on to bigger and better things. He packed his bags and headed to the MAC, leaving the Patriot League behind. What does Coach Yates have to say about his new squad?

"We have a very young team. It looks like Garry Pleick is going to be leading our team for the next two seasons, although he will be losing his big man in the middle, Johnathen McCroskey. Whoever held this job this previous season didn't do quite a good job recruiting as they brought in 4 freshmen point guards and not one center for me to work with. Since McCroskey is graduating, I'm going to have to bring one in during the 5-week recruiting period. This will be a challenge, but I have faith in both my skills as well as these kids for us to make something special happen. But just remember that Karl Malone isn't walking through those doors! Haha, I'm joking. Always fun to get a quick Pitino joke in there."

The One and Only Recruit for Louisiana Tech...

      Antawn Blackwell (3*)
      • Position - Power Forward
      • Class - JC FR
      • Best Grades - Rebounding (B+), Intelligence (B+), Quickness (B)
"There wasn't much I could do with this roster as we are so young and only had one scholarship to offer. There weren't any centers out there that we could legitimately get to commit to come here within 5 weeks, so we went with a good young power forward in Blackwell. He comes with a season of experience against college kids and should step right into the starting lineup. We're going to need him and Akingbala to play big on the glass as we're going to be a team that's going to have to get up and down to be effective. I'm looking forward to getting this team to gel together." -Coach Dale Yates

        2012-2013 Season Update

        One Scholarship, One Center Signed!

During the early recruiting period, Louisiana Tech pulled in a center prospect. He will be the only one on the roster next season. We just missed out on having 7'1'' Kelvin Pearson, a 3* center, sign with us. Being from Pompano Beach, Florida, Florida International had 100% interest in him. Although we had 100% interest as well, it wasn't in our best interest to gamble on him while losing a prospect that could be guaranteed. So who did we get?

        Earl Sloan (2*)
        • Position - Center
        • Class - HS SR
        • Height - 6'8"
        • Grades
          • Offense - B*
          • Shooting - C?
          • Rebounding - B-*
          • Hustle - B+*
          • Leaping - B-*
          • Quickness - B+*
          • Intellicgence - B-*
        * = confirmed grade

"It's great to be able to pull in a recruit that wants to be here as badly as Earl. To sign during the early signing period shows us he really wants to be here. Though he is a center, his height doesn't exactly show it. With that said, he will fit in great with out uptempo team. He is a well rounded player and very active when on the court. I'm looking forward to getting this kid involved with the team as soon as possible." -Coach Yates

        Farmer Goes Down

On December 3rd, 2012, the Stanford Cardinal beat the Bulldogs of Louisiana Tech 67-47. The game was not the only loss for the Bulldogs that day as they lost their Sophomore leader, Walter Farmer (72 overall) to a brutal ankle injury. He will miss 30 games of action. Sophomore Antawn Blackwell, Coach Yates' one and only recruit from last season, will step in and play the small forward position until Farmer comes back.

Re: Sim Only - Career of Dale Yates (CHoops 2k7)

The Athletic Director has made a decision on Dale Yates' career as coach for the Bulldogs. Let's just say the future looks very bright for both the school and Coach Yates. The coach's contract has been extended two more seasons with the great performance of the team last season.

"I am very happy to be here at Louisiana Tech and I want to reach new heights while I'm here. It took two years to get the right fit of guys on the roster, and you saw what we could do as a team. It's always tough to lose your top players, all of which were statistical leaders last season, but that's why we have two great assistant coaches to help me recruit. This new class of recruits should be ready to step in and help immediately and we expect big things out of this young core in the very near future. The future looks bright for Louisiana Tech!" - Dale Yates

"I'm very excited to mesh this recruiting class with last year's. I thought with the influx of big men from last year that we would have to go to a slower offense, but to get a big as mobile as Earl [Minnieweather] (73 overall), the option to run is still there. Of course we also brought in a great crop of small forwards, so I could potentially start small forwards at the two, three and four position, but we'll see how this all plays out." - Dale Yates

When asked about the point guard situation, there was already a debate as to who would be the starter. Mathew Pinkalla (67 overall) comes in as the highly touted point guard recruit that Coach Yates signed himself, but then there is the crowd favorite Eric Cleland (65 overall), a walk-on, red-shirt sophomore.

"It's going to be a tough decision to make, but no matter who wins the starting job, the backup will definitely get his share of the minutes. It's a great luxury to have these two on one team and if I could give Eric [Cleland] a scholarship, I would. As for Bron Poole (55 overall), he's going to red-shirt this year. He knows, as well as the team, that it is the best thing for him to do."
