I forgot to do the final stats of last season. I tend to elaborate more over time anyways. Plus screw stats, it's all about winning.

          Week 1 Preview
          (Oh snap a preview)

Illinois Fighting Illini (0-0) at Arizona State Sun Devils (0-0)

TEMPE, AZ- The Fighting Illini open up the season against a tough Pac-10 team on the road in Arizona State. Both teams are all about offense so we should see points flying around the board in this one.

The Illini come into this game returning all their key position players like Juice Williams, Rashard Mendenhall, and Vontae Davis. The key for them will be to get out to an early multiple score lead and force the Sun Devils to start forcing passes. The talented secondary for the Illini can then create turnovers and coast to a big road win.

          Line: Illinois by 6.5
Lee and Kirk both pick Illinois.

To add on, I'm dropping the games to 7 minute quarters.

              Defensive Domination

Illinois Fighting Illini 44 (1-0), Arizona State Sun Devils 6 (0-1)

TEMPE, AZ- At one point in this game it was 3-0 Arizona State, but that point was very short and it was the only time Arizona State really had a shot. The Illini defense pulled in three first half interceptions and both the first and second team defense kept the Sun Devils out of the endzone.

However, the Illini did lose Juice Williams for 4 weeks after getting injured with a broken toe in the second quarter. However, this did not stop the ground game for the Illini. Rashard Mendenhall had 203 rushing yards and 2 scores, everyone else combined for 125 yards and a score. Meanwhile, the Sun Devils had 20 rushing yards in 21 attempts.

The Illini also cut down on turnovers. Only 2 turnovers in the game and one game very late when the game was already in hand. They also dominated ball control by holding on to the ball 7 minutes longer than the Sun Devils.

The Illini open up their home season next week with Central Michigan.

                  Week 2 Preview

Central Michigan Chippewas (1-0) at Illinois Fighting Illini (1-0)

CHAMPAIGN, IL- The Illini are back on course, but this time they're without their quarterback. Now they were without Juice Williams last year, but they managed to lose 4 huge conference games down the stretch. This year Garza has improved though, and Juice should only be out for 3 games against sure wins (Central Mich, UConn, and Iowa State). Today will tell us how well the depth is in the QB scheme though. Garza should put up big numbers against the weak Chippewa defense as they struggled against Kansas last week.

Also, what the hell is a Chippewa?

                  Line: Illinois by 19

I was curious myself, so I did a little research and found Central Michigan was named after the nearby Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Council.
