    Red Sox Earn Non-Divisional Win

Good day for the Red Sox, as they are victorious over Rangers.

The Red Sox had a somewhat easy time of it against the Rangers yesterday, winning 7-3 in front of a crowd of 36,298 at Fenway Park. Coming into a tie game, Hideki Okajima hung around long enough to get the win, throwing 4 innings while allowing no runs and no hits in relief of Clay Buchholz. David Ortiz drove in 2 runs on 4 hits, helping the club pick up the win.

The Red Sox and Rangers play again today, with Julian Tavarez (2-0, 7.16) and Jason Jennings (3-1, 3.41) the scheduled starters.

      Tigers Earn Tough Win

In a tight game, Tigers pick up win against Blue Jays.

The Tigers edged the Blue Jays 3-1 yesterday, with 43,634 fans at Rogers Centre leaving less happy than when they arrived, despite all the sunshine and a few hours away from work. Ivan Rodriquez drove in 1 run on 3 hits, helping the club pick up the win. Kenny Rogers picked up the win (his 1st of the season) allowing 1 run on 6 hits over 8 innings. Shaun Marcum was removed from the game early because of an injury (neck sprain). He's officially listed as day to day.

The series ends this afternoon, with the Tigers' Nate Robertson (2-1, 6.75) and the Blue Jays' Jesse Litsch (1-1, 2.36) the probable starters.

Smoltz Collects Career K Number 3,000

Big game for John Smoltz, who adds to his legacy by picking up career strikeout number 3,000 in victory.

The Braves escaped with a 4-3 win against the Nationals last night in front of the hometown crowd, giving the 39,469 fans on hand a reason to keep on keepin' on. He only had 1 official at-bat and he banged out a hit - but Mark Teixeira drove in 1 run for the winners. It was a "quality start" for John Smoltz, who allowed 3 runs in 6 innings, but it was also a no-decision for him, as he was long gone when the game was decided. Working in relief of starter John Smoltz, Royce Ring allowed no runs on 2 hits in 1 inning to earn his 1st win of the season.

The Braves try to wrap up the sweep tonight, giving the start to Tim Hudson (2-0, 2.36) while the Nationals counter with Shawn Hill (0-0, 0.00).

          2,000 Hits For Guerrero

Win even sweeter for Vladimir Guerrero, who picks up career hit number 2,000 in victory.

The visiting Angels were able to knock off the Red Sox yesterday afternoon by a 5-1 margin, in front of 36,298 fans at Fenway Park. Getting the win was Jon Garland, who gave up 1 run on 4 hits en route to getting his 3rd win of the season. Vladimir Guerrero was the star at the plate, going 3-4 with a home run and 2 rbi.

The Angels and Red Sox play again tonight at Fenway Park, as Los Angeles sends Jered Weaver (2-1, 4.37) to the mound against Tim Wakefield (3-0, 3.69) in game 2 of the series.
