Re: A story of the Fighting Phillies
Phillies rally back then win in extra's.
I want to thank everyone for tuning in so late after such a long, wild game.
To begin with this postgame, I would like to remind everyone at first that their was an excellent pitching matchup at first. Sometimes its hard to remember the matchup after a 15 inning game.
It Carlos Zambrano against Brett Myers. The Phillies were able to get on the board first when Shane Victorino hit an RBI single.
But the Cubs then took complete control of the game with 3 homeruns combined in the 4th and 5th.
"Big Z" was pitching masterfully for the most part of the game. Through the first 5 innings, he only allowed the one hit to Victorino.
Zambrano pitching in the 5th.
But the Phillies were finally able to get to him again when Chase Utley hit a solo homerun followed by a 2 run home run from Geoff Jenkins to make it a 5-4 game.
In the bottom of the 7th, Philadelphia was able to tie the game when Shane Victorino hit a sac fly. It was his second RBI of the game.
Victorino coming off the field after the SAC Fly in the 7th.
Then both offenses decided to take a 7 inning break.
Then in the 15th, with bullpens completely depleted. The Phillies were finally able to break across the run column again with a walk off single from Pedro Feliz.
Feliz hitting the GW hit in the 15th.
Feliz has really been a bright spot for the Phillies offense. After going so long without being signed, he showed how important he can be.
The Cubs and Phillies will finish off their series tomorrow afternoon.
Now time for the game recap.

Re: A story of the Fighting Phillies
Utley's pinch hit home run sweeps the Cubs.
After the long lasting game a night before, the Phillies and Cubs game today only lasted a slim 2 hours and 20 minutes.
But although the game was shorter, the excitement was still there.
The Phillies were able to jump on the board early when Geoff Jenkins hit his 4th homerun of the season off of Ryan Dempster.
Jenkins hitting homerun in the 2nd.
Both Moyer and Dempster pitched great in today's game. Moyer did run into some trouble though in the 4th when an RBI double from Derrek Lee then a wild pitch scoring Lee gave the Cubs a 2-1 lead.
With a runner on in the bottom of the 6th, Charlie Manuel decided to bring in Chase Utley, who was resting today, to hit for Eric Bruntlett. Utley did not waste anytime when on the first pitch hit the game changing 2 run homerun.
That was all the Phillies needed when the bullpen came in and shut the door for the Phillies.
Brad Lidge was able to come in and recorded his 4th save of the season.
Lidge celebrating after striking out the side in the 9th.
The Phillies have an off day Monday but then return to action on Tuesday when Houston comes to town.
Make sure to tune in tomorrow when we will have a special edition of SportsNite, where we will give a rundown of the Phillies season to this point.
Now here is the recap.

Re: A story of the Fighting Phillies
Phillies take down tough righty.
The Phillies get the best of Ryan Dempster.
Playing at home, the Phillies squeaked out a 3-2 win over the Cubs yesterday afternoon. Jamie Moyer gave the club 7 innings, allowing 4 hits to earn his 2nd win of the season. Brad Lidge was literally unhittable picking up his 4th save of the season, striking out 3...every batter he faced. Chase Utley clubbed a home run and drove in 2 runs to lead the charge at the plate.
Derrek Lee achieved a modest milestone with his 750th career RBI.

Ordonez Drives in 1000th Career Run
Despite being on the losing end, Magglio Ordonez collects RBI number 1000.
The Twins sent the Comerica Park patrons home disappointed, as they (the Twins, not the fans) picked up a one-run (8-7) win over the Tigers.
Carlos Gomez carried the club, going 3-for-5 with a home run and 2 RBIs. Allowing 4 hits in 6 innings, Kevin Slowey was able to pick up his 1st win of the season with some -- ok, alot-- of helo from his 'pen.

Re: A story of the Fighting Phillies
Welcome fans to another edition of SportsNite. On this edition of SportsNite we will preview the upcoming series for Philadelphia.
The Houston Astros come into town for a 3 game series. Houston has a record of 7-6 and a team ERA of 4.39.
Houston, like almost every team in the NL Central, has been playing moderately good this early in the season. The Phillies will not only have to face Roy Oswalt in this series but also must face the combo of Lance Berkman and Carlos Lee.
If Houston wants to win than this is the player they must keep from getting hot.
Chase Utley
Utley has really been playing some great baseball as of late. He has homered in 2 of his last 3 games and is looking to continue the hot bat.
But if Philadelphia wants to win the series they must keep this bat in check.
Carlos Lee
Thats right folks, the El Caballo, Carlos Lee. While Lee may only be hitting .272 right now, he does have 4 home runs and can go yard whenever he wants.
Lee is very dangerous and can dictate games.
The series will be played in Philadelphia,PA at Citizens Bank Park.
Here is the team and pitching matchup for this upcoming series.
Match-Up:
Houston Astros (7-6)
vs.
Philadelphia Phillies (9-4)
Pitching Match-Ups:

Re: A story of the Fighting Phillies
Phillies fall apart late as Astros win.
The Phillies returned to action on Tuesday and began their series with the Houston Astros.
On the mound for the Phillies was pitcher Kyle Kendrick who was looking for his first win of the season. The Astros starter Shawn Chacon was also looking for his first win of the season as well.
The Phillies managed to get on the board in the bottom of the 3rd with RBI singles from Rollins and Victorino. But Houston responded with 2 in the top of the 4th.
Rollins hitting RBI single in 3rd.
The game remained tied through the 6th inning. In the top of the 6th, Kyle Kendrick left the game with an apparent arm injury. It was found out later that the injury was not serious and Kendrick should not miss a start.
In the bottom of the 6th, Ryan Howard was ejected because of arguing a close play at first.
In the top of the 7th, Ty Wigginton gave the Astros the lead when he hit a solo home run(3rd of the season) off of Chad Durbin.
Wigginton celebrated after 7th inning home run.
In the 8th, Lance Berkman hit a 3 run home run off of Ryan Madson. It was Berkman's 2nd of the year.
The Phillies tried to rally back in the 8th. Utley managed to hit a 2 run homerun to cut the lead down to 2 runs but it was not enough.
Jose Valverde came into the game in the 9th and closed the door on the Phillies.
Valverde celebrating after strikeout.
This was the first loss the Phillies have had at home this year. Also Ryan Madson was sent down after tonight's game following another poor outing. The Phillies called up Matt Smith from AAA Lehigh Valley for the time being but expect Madson back up once he gets everything worked out.
The Phillies continue the series tomorrow with the Astros.
Now time for the game recap.
