Big 7th inning leads Phillies past Houston.
"Howard and Utley spark offense to beat Astros"
vs.
Pitching Matchup
Houston Astros
Chris Sampson(1-0, 3.59)
vs.
Philadelphia Phillies
Adam Eaton(0-2, 2.84)
Article By:Kevin Rogers
Philadelphia, PA- The Phillies and Astros played their second game of a 3 game series tonight. Adam Eaton got the nod for the Phillies. Eaton has plagued with a lack of run support this season as he has an ERA of 2.84 but a record of 0-2.
Houston sent Chris Sampson on the mound for this matchup. He had a record of 1-0 this year and is really growing into a solid pitcher.
Houston managed to score the first run of the game but the Phillies stormed right back to take a 3-1 lead behind RBI doubles from Jimmy Rollins and Chase Utley. This double was big for Rollins who has really been struggling as of late. "Im making good contact, it just feels as if every ball I hit is right at a defender" said Rollins. Rollins went 3 for 5 today boosting his average back to .238.
Back-to-back homer's from Mark Loretta and Hunter Pence brought the Astros back into the game in the sixth and also knocked Adam Eaton out of line for the win. "It was tough to take but their is always next game", said Eaton.
Going into the 7th inning the Phillies only had a slim 4-3 lead over the Astros. Things would change in this inning. RBI's by Rollins, Utley, Howard, Jenkins and Ruiz lead to a big 6 run inning and pushed the Phillies lead to 10-3.
Towles, C 5 0 1 0 0 0 .347
Ryan Howard had another strong game for the Phillies.
Houston tried to mount a comeback in the 8th but could only score 4 runs. Jayson Werth added a homerun in the 8th and Gordon managed to shut the door for the Phillies.
"It is always good to pick up key wins. We just have to keep at it and keep that same winning mentality", said manager Charlie Manuel. Philadelphia will have a tough pitching battle tomorrow as their own Cole Hamels will face off against Houston's ace Roy Oswalt.

Bullpen Failures Lead to Victory for Phillies
Taking advantage of shoddy bullpen work by Astros, Phillies rally to win.
It was a good night for the host Phillies, as they out-scored the Astros 11-7 in front of 29,547 fans at Citizens Bank Park. Ryan Howard had a clutch performance, getting 3 RBI and banging out 3 hits in 4 at-bats to pace the offense. Coming in with the game tied Matt Smith picked up his 1st win of the season, in relief of Adam Eaton, working 1 inning and giving up 2 runs on 2 hits. Chris Sampson was removed from the game early because of an injury(Blister on Finger). He's officially listed as Day-To-Day.
New Injuries
Chris Sampson out 1-6 days with a blister
Player Movement
Call up SP Joe Woerman from AAA Tacoma to Seattle.
Call Up RP Matt Smith to Philadelphia and send down RP Ryan Madson to Lehigh Valley

Hamels Shuts Down Houston.
"Ace goes 7 1/3 innings to beat Astros"
vs.
Article by: Kevin Rogers
Philadelphia, PA- One word can describe the pitching performance by Cole Hamels today, Dominant. He made the Astros hitters look silly all day, even through the horrid officiating behind the plate. "The changeup was working today and I was able to mix speeds up effectively to keep them guessing", said Hamels about the performance.
Its not easy to go up there and get a win when Houston puts Roy Oswalt on the bump, but that was just what the Phillies did. Although Oswalt was able to record double digit strikeout numbers, he was no match for the high powered Phillies lineup.
If you were driving around Citizens Bank Park during the fourth inning and you heard an extremely loud roar, I hope you were not startled. That was just the fan reaction to Pat Burrell hitting his first home run of the season. "It felt great, to finally get one out, to give the team the lead, it just felt great" said Burrell. Burrell has been in a horrible slump in the beginning of the year but Charlie Manuel has stuck with him in hopes that soon Burrell will get it turned around.
Hamels looked strong going 7 1/3 innings picking up win #2.
Chase Utley continued his hot batting in today's game. In the 5th inning, his 2 run single broke the game open for the Phillies, then in the 7th, he crushed his 5th home run of the season.
Phillies continue the home stand against the struggling Mets. Right now the New York Mets have a dismal 2-13 record. But if we remember correctly, both wins came against the Phillies just last week. The Mets have Johan Santana on the mound Friday night to try to right the ship before they sink to the cellar of the NL East.

Giles Drives In 1000th Career Run
Despite being on the losing end, Brian Giles collects RBI number 1000.
The Rockies and Padres needed extra innings to decide a NL West showdown, with Colorado eventually winning 3-2 in 10 innings at Petco Park.
Matt Holiday sparked the offense, going 2-for-5 and driving in a run.
Starter Jeff Francis worked 6.1 innings and allowed 1 run and 4 hits, but he wasn't around when the game was decided, though he does record his 3rd quality start of the season.

Sweet Banner!!!! I think it would look even better if you can find a Phillies pic with the Liberty Bell in the background where it says Marino Times instead of in the Phillies pic itself.Highheat's O's Franchise
