WKU(1-0) @ ARI(0-0)
Hilltoppers defense to much for Wildcats.

Location

Recap
Tuscon, AZ-Western Kentucky came into this game looking to have another upset under their belt. And the way the Arizona quarterback was playing, it was pretty obvious that this would be the case.
2 interceptions in the first quarter, including a glitchy pick 6, gave Western Kentucky a 10-6 lead.
In the second quarter, the Hilltoppers still could not be stopped and the freshman Antonio Frazier had his first career touchdown. At halftime the score was 20-9 Western Kentucky.
But then the Wildcats got hot and the Hilltoppers had to hold on. But a late touchdown sealed the deal for the Hilltoppers as they managed to pull off another upset.

Hilltoppers survive with magical play.

Athens, GA- Many people believed that the Western Kentucky 2 game win streak was a fluke. They also believed that having the Hilltoppers join the MAC was a fluke. Well Coach Rogers wanted to go out and prove the doubters wrong.
The Wildcats and Hilltoppers both exchanged touchdowns in the first quarter but the Ohio kicker, M.Weller missed his extra point, causing the 1st quarter score to be Western Kentucky 7, Ohio 6.
There was something about this Hilltopper team, that no matter how many mistakes they made, they would rally behind their coach to prove the doubters wrong.
KJ Black threw a costly interception in the red zone during the second quarter, which led to a 1 yard TD pass for Ohio. But Western Kentucky managed to rally back before halftime as KJ Black found Antonio Frazier in the back of the endzone to give the Hilltoppers a 14-13 lead.
Ohio showed their MAC dominance in the 3rd quarter as they took the lead behind two touchdowns from their running back, C.Garrett. One of the plays was a BS 90 yard screen that worked to perfection.
Western Kentucky managed to tie the game early in the fourth but Ohio regained the lead behind a 40 yard field goal with 2:04 left.
The Hilltoppers were then stopped on 4th down as the offense could not get anything going. They had to put it all the backs of the defense. The defense made the stop and Ohio had to settle for a field goal and left 48 seconds for KJ Black and company.
"I told the team we will win. They believed me. The freshman really got the job done." said quarterback KJ Black.
The Hilltoppers moved methodically down field on what some can view as a signature drive for this coach. Just hitting the out routes and utilizing the clock to perfection.
The Hilltoppers faced a 1st and 10, with 14 seconds left and KJ Black called for a hot route with Patrick Gould to run an out. He noticed that the safety was helping to double cover the senior wide receiver, Jake Gaebler. "I saw what they were running and knew I had to take advantage of it." said Black.
Gould caught the ball and was looking to get out of bounds but managed to break the tackle and noticed the green grass in front of him. He raced to the endzone and scored the game tying touchdown to the joy of his coach.
"This was probably my proudest day as a coach. Just watching all my players play the way I expect them, including the play of my 3 big freshmen." said coach Rogers.
Western Kentucky kicked the game winning extra point and held the Wildcats to preserve the win.

Hilltoppers lose first game.

Toledo, OH- The Hilltoppers were 3-0 with all 3 wins coming on the road. They had another road challenge as they took on the Toledo Rockets in Toledo, Ohio.
Toledo jumped out to an early 21-0 lead in the first quarter with 2 touchdown runs and a pick six. The running back D. Collins was very tough to be stopped for Western Kentucky.
The Hilltoppers got their stuff together in the 2nd quarter as they put up 10 points and at halftime the score was 21-10.
The score was as close as 21-17 when Jake Gaebler caught a 6 yard pass on fourth down to make the score 21-17. But then Toledo went down the field to push the lead back up as the 3rd Quarter was ending.
Both teams traded field goals in the fourth before Jake Gaebler caught his second touchdown pass of the game. But the Hilltoppers could not get the ball back on the onside kick and Toledo added one more rushing touchdown to put the game out of reach.
