Re: From the Sandlot to Cooperstown (MLB 09' The Show RTTS)
I was only able to get two spring training games in. I through three weeks of spring training.
I'll be posting pictures along with my entries once the season starts. They'll summarize each week's worth of games.
Anyways, here's the game log for those two games:
March 16, 2009
Opponent: Toronto Blue Jays
Line: 0-2
Grounded into a double play, 4-6-3.
Grounded out to catcher, 2-3.
March 17, 2009
Opponent: Minnesota Twins
Line: 1-5, R, RBI, K
Singled to right. Drove in a run.
Grounded into a fielder's choice, 5-6. Scored later.
Flied out to right.
Flied out to first.
Struck out swinging.
My Spring Training 2009 line so far:
8-49, 3 runs, 2B, RBI, 15 K's, 2 BB's, HBP
This is probably my best week starting from the St. Louis Game, and it's still pretty bad:
4-17, 3 runs, 2B, RBI, 4 K's, HBP.Comment

Outfielder Knowles a Prospect to Keep an Eye on
Boston Herald
March 26, 2009
Fort Myers - It's a little past noon in Florida and with opening day around the corner, the final cuts are going to be made. We have taken a look at some of the Red Sox prospects that have participated in spring so far, but we now look at an outfield prospect entering his first full season in his professional career. Taken in the fifth round of last year's amateur draft, Knowles quickly turned heads with a very good season in short-single A, batting .321 with 6 home runs and fifteen stolen bases.
"He has struggled a bit here in spring training, but that is about what we expected," said GM Theo Epstein. Knowles is currently batting .179 with only one home run. "Our scouts liked what we saw in him in high school. He has a little bit of pop to his bat and does have some wheels. He hasn't been able to show much in here in the past four weeks, but he definitely has room to improve."
"We've been working on his swing and his approach and he has shown improvement over the past couple of days," said hitting coach Dave Magadan. The Red Sox held extra batting practice, with Knowles being one of the players who participated. "We worked on pitch recognition and plate discipline in his last batting session. He has run into trouble chasing pitches out of the zone."
Knowles did not rank among the Red Sox prospect ranking lists in any publications, but the Red Sox feel like they got a good one in him. We may not see him this season and he'll likely start out in Salem or Portland depending on how the Red Sox want to push him.Comment

Re: From the Sandlot to Cooperstown (MLB 09' The Show RTTS)
Week 1 - AA Portland, more of the same. (From April 9 to April 15)
April 15 scouting report.
"Has the ability to put the bat on the ball anytime he swings the bat. His power is inconsistent as he does not consistently get the barrel of the bat on the ball. He has a good eye and is usually selective at the plate. He does tend to get in trouble after a couple of bad at-bats, which then he starts to become less disciplined at the plate and will start chasing bad pitches.
His speed is surprisingly below average, given the amount of stolen bases he's had last season. Maybe he's not getting good jumps or he just got fat over the offseason. Defensively his lack of speed doesn't affect his play as an outfielder, but will probably project to be a corner outfielder in the majors. He still needs to work on his angles, but he's appears to be reliable on defense. His arm strength is above average at best, but his accuracy is terrible.
He's as raw of a talent as you can find and to find him at AA at this point of his career is pretty amazing.
Future projection: I have not thought of a player he compares closest to yet.
-Garald Martin, scout, Minnesota Twins."

At least I got to eat a lobster this week. Although it wasn't very good, much like my offensive numbers so far.
I would have put up a picture to change things up or a video, but given with how things went, um, there wasn't anything worth highlighting.Last edited by BatsareBugs; 03-09-2009, 10:23 PM.Comment

Re: From the Sandlot to Cooperstown (MLB 09' The Show RTTS)
Week 2 - AA Portland, Player of the Week. (From April 16 to April 22)
Updated scouting report from a New York Mets minor league scout.
"How did this guy go hitless last week? He came to the plate with a very aggressive approach and did not look fooled on any pitch. He had a couple of pitches that he chased but he was able to put the ball in play. 0-2 counts did not phase him at all. He hit a couple of pitches deep, but most of his hits were dribblers up the middle with a couple of line drives here and there.
Defensively, his speed left a little to be desired and he got off to a terrible jump when he tried to steal a base. His arm was decent though, but not very accurate.
I think there are better outfield prospects elsewhere. He's good, but he's nothing special.
-Kyle Rosenhunt, scout, New York Mets."

I was notified by my agent that I had earned player of the week honors from Baseball America based on my performance at the plate this week. There's certainly more for me to talk about this week, such as my four hit game.
A base hit to left center against RHP Tadashi Igawa Kay (Binghamton Mets), the first of what would turn out to be a four hit game for me.
I had struggled last week, but it seems like my last batting session helped me a lot and I attribute my successful adjustments to hitting coach Davie Joppie. I was a bit more aggressive with my approach as it was apparent that pitchers would lay one down the middle against me in the first or second pitch. It's great to have done better this week, as it relieves all the pressure and tension built up from a terrible spring and a bad start. The only negative however is that I was caught stealing twice, one of which the hitter left me out to dry and missed his sign.Last edited by BatsareBugs; 03-09-2009, 10:19 PM.Comment

Week 3 - AA Portland (From April 23 to 29)
"He had a nice turnaround last week, but not so much this week. Ground balls are alright, but he needs to get more loft on his swing. Also, I think a batting session against a LHP is in order."

Portland Planet: Injury Means Opportunity
May 4, 2009
Cal Johnson
Norwich - Sometimes in baseball, it's best when things don't go according to plan. After last night's game, manager Arnie Beyeler and Red Sox General Manager Theo Epstein had to alter their plans for easing one of their young upcoming prospects. Chris Carter, the regular left fielder for the Sea Dogs, suffered a knee sprain late in the game. Rob Knowles, who has been the primary backup for the Sea Dogs, will be starting in Carter's place until he recovers from his injury.
Injuries are never a good thing for anyone, but we will be able to see how the young 18-year old will fare in AA as a regular. "We had plans to ease him into a starting role in AA. It was already enough that he skipped the A levels and had gone into spring training. We based our decision on the inputs from Beyeler, (Davie) Joppie, and I. He's not exactly at the level where we want him, but I think it'll be a good test for the kid," said Epstein.
If Knowles plays up to the level he is capable of, it'll make Beyeler's job even harder when Carter recovers. Knowles is batting .290 with 1 home run and 5 rbis this season.Comment

I'm writing them up, just to mix things up between the journals and the gamelogs. I do them based on how I've done that week or if something major happens. If the game did generate them, I would take a screenshot instead and post that.Comment
