Re: From the Sandlot to Cooperstown (MLB 09' The Show RTTS)

Week 4 - AA Portland "New left fielder, for the time being that is" (April 30 to May 6)
Comments in the Norwich local newspaper after the May 1 loss to the Portland Sea Dogs.

"We took some chances against him on the basepaths and he made us pay for our bad decisions. We knew he had decent arm for a rightfielder, but he got us with two perfect throws"

"He's a guy who you always have consider as a dangerous player offensively and defensively. Today, he got the job done against us."

    -Steve Decker, Manager, Connecticut Defenders.

Minor league evaluation report for the Red Sox, May 3, 2009.

"Knowles's progress in Portland is a curious case. He does not look like the base stealing threat we saw in Lowell and back in high school. His speed is obviously down from last season but it does not appear to be caused by any injury. However, he still shown he's capable of hitting, with an .279 average through one month. The power numbers aren't there yet with only one home run and three doubles so far.

His arm strength has improved since the spring a little bit, but he can still work on his accuracy. He has responded well to the aggressive development plan we have for him and I would not be surprised to see him starting in Portland in the future. He's got the talent and the make up for it."

-Vic Denker, scout, Boston Red Sox.

Re: From the Sandlot to Cooperstown (MLB 09' The Show RTTS)

Hmm... bad news. Apparently I can no longer take batting practice as an "magical" floating bat decided to take that away from me. I'm deciding whether I should proceed on with this one or start over with a new RTTS is similar fashion.

This really bums me out, I like being able to work on my offensive ratings with something like this and this bug just kills the RTTS mode.

Thoughts? I know I have some people here keeping track of my RTTS. I really want to have the full RTTS development and stuff.

*Edit: I'm currently checking to see if I do need to restart. I started another test one and did a regular batting practice from the main MLB 09 menu (not in RTTS). I'll see. If I can't get this thing resolved, I'm going to start over.

I've been reading right along but never posted.

Maybe the game decided that you didn't need the extra BP.

I would like to see you continue but either way I'll still be watching.
If you can read this, thank a teacher. If you can read this in english, thank a soldier.

I've been enjoying this RTTS journal - hope you can figure things out and solve the problem. Good luck!

Re: From the Sandlot to Cooperstown (MLB 09' The Show RTTS)

Well, I've started a new one but I've kept the save file for this one. Yeah, it sucks not being able to participate in any more batting practice because of this glitch (I simmed to other dates and the same thing kept happening).

I won't officially make a decision, but I'll let you all know. If I do decide to go with the new one, I'll post a new thread for it and have one of the mods lock this one up.

Re: From the Sandlot to Cooperstown (MLB 09' The Show RTTS)

F it, I'm resuming this one. I went ahead and did some simming to see if this glitch spilled into the next season, but it worked perfectly fine (batting practice that is, 2010).

In the meantime, I guess I have either an invisible teammate or Mr. Joppie is using some weird magic to get a floating bat to hit for me. I guess he's had enough of my batting sessions.

Week 5 will be posted soon. I had that one completed.

Week 5 - AA Portland "A Year Older." (May 7 to May 13)
Post-Game Article in the Portland Planet:

Rob Knowles singles to left and drives in the game-tying run in the ninth.

                "Birthday Bash"
                May 11, 2009
                Cal Johnson

Portland - There weren't any presents or cakes at the stadium yesterday. Wine bottles? Maybe. For Rob Knowles, he gave himself a present in the form of a memorable performance against the New Britain Rock Cats.

In his first at-bat, Knowles hit a howitzer shot down the left field line and easily reached second while driving in the game's first run. He topped his performance with a couple of singles, one of them driving in the game-tying run in the ninth, and a key throw from the outfield that helped nail a runner and prematurely-ended a Rock Cats rally. His final offensive line for the day? 3-6 with a double and two runs driven in. The only blemish was a strikeout and a face full of whipped cream.

"I nearly asked for the day off," said the now 19 years old Knowles, "I'm glad I didn't. Even if it wasn't my birthday, you're always hoping to go out there and give your best performance on the field."

                Week 5 scouting report:
"He's hitting well. He's shown great plate vision so far and has been aggressive at the plate. However, he needs to work on his patience and working some walks if he wants to make it to the next level. All his hits this week were liners or quick grounders. I'm not sure if his power is developing. His gotten a little a faster on the basepaths, but he hasn't taken any aggressive leads off of first or even attempted to steal a base.

Defensively he's showing signs of improvement. His routes have gotten better and his throws have been nails so far. He should continue to be the regular left fielder there in Portland for the time being and should continue to improve."

Photos and Videos from Week 5:

Knowles doubles down the left field line.

Knowles hits the cutoff man, which would eventually lead to a key out at third.

I can't see your vid, it says it is marked as private. Do I need to send you a request on youtube or something?

That's a nice pic of you throwing the ball back into the infield.

                        Scouting Report, May 16, 2009.

"I think I finally came up with a player he compares best to, Sean Burroughs. He can't run all that fast and all he hits are singles, something you don't want out of a corner outfielder. It might be to early to what a 19-year old might be in the future, but he has shown practically zero power since the first series I saw him."

Journal: "No Longer Taking Extra Batting Practice"
                        May 18, 2009

Hitting coach Davie Joppie has told me I won't be taking extra batting practice since the other players need it more. I'm kind of surprised by this, but I guess it makes sense that only a few players can participate in the extra batting session because of time constraints.

Anyways, playing in left regularly has been tiring. I don't know, maybe I need to prepare better for the season, I'm pooped. Along with the fact that I can't seem to steal a base at all this season. Oh well, you just keep working on them right?

                          May 25 Scouting Report:

"The Portland Sea Dogs choice of a number three hitter continues to baffle me. I understand Knowles has only recently been made a regularly, but he just does not fit as a number three hitter. First, his power is practically non-existant (1 home run, 5 doubles, a slugging percentage below .400). Second, he is terrible in the clutch. He's had many opportunities to drive in runs but only has fourteen to show for it this season. Third, he rarely works the walk. He projects right now as a perfect bottom of the lineup hitter. The only positives he has with his offense is his ability to avoid the strikeout and put the ball in play.

He's shown he's solid defensively, getting decent reads and angles, but does not have the speed or the arm to be considered great. I think he's a fourth outfielder at best."

Feliz's 2 Home Runs Sink Sea Dogs

Binghamton's Ramon Feliz connects on his second home run in the eighth inning.

It was a back-and-forth night between the Binghamton Mets and the Portland Sea Dogs as both teams matched each other until the very end. When one team would take the lead, the other would quickly tie the game. Binghamton's catcher, Ramon Feliz, proved to be the difference maker in the game. Clobbering two home runs at exactly the same area in RF, Feliz drove in three runs as the last-place Sea Dogs fell victim to a close loss once again.
The Sea Dogs took an early 1-0 nothing lead in the first inning on Reynaldo Moya's home run. The Mets tied the game at the top of the second, but the Sea Dogs responded in the bottom of the second to regain the lead. Feliz's first home run of the season tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the sixth, but the Sea Dogs scored a run to take the lead again in the same inning. In the eighth inning, Feliz hit a two-run home run to give the Mets a 4-3 lead. The Mets would also get a key home run from Bruney in the top of the ninth to take a 5-3 lead. The Sea Dogs scored in the bottom of the ninth to draw within one, but with the bases loaded, the Sea Dogs were unable to cash in as Mets closer Terrence Daniels got Rob Knowles to pop up for the third out for his sixteenth save of the season.
Josias Munoz (3-2) was the winning pitcher for the Mets, while Nino Sosa (0-5) received the loss). The two teams play again tonight.

"You need to look at this tape from the Binghamton Mets vs. Portland Sea Dogs game on June 1. You see, bases loaded and he pops out. No clutch at all. Worthless."

                            Positives:
                            - Took pitches and showed discipline. Good job studying the strike zone.
                            Negatives:

Courson makes contact and drives the ball for an RBI triple.

The stadium was already almost empty, for the last fifteen innings. Only a handful of people were still there to witness another Sea Dogs loss.

In the top of the fifteenth, with a runner on base, Antoine Courson launched a rocket that barely cleared outfielder Rob Knowles's glove to drive in the game's first run since the ninth inning. Knowles had tied it earlier in the ninth with a double that drove in two runs. Armando Aparacio was charged with his fourth blown save of the season, but he quickly recovered and struck out Jose Moran and Ben Gribble to keep the game tied at six.

Two runners score as the Sea Dogs got a clutch 2-RBI double from Knowles.

                                Cal Johnson - June 7, 2009

Sea Dogs starter Charley Tseng acknowledges Raber's home run as a no-doubter.

Break out the brooms, the Sea Dogs were swept again, this time by Trenton.

The game was practically over in the third inning, when Rader of the Trenton Thunder hit his second three-run home run to make 7-0 Trenton. Shelly Duncan also had a two run home run as the Thunder cruised to a 12-2 victory in the emptiest stadium in the minor leagues.

The Sea Dogs had an opportunity to respond in the bottom of the first, but fell victim to untimely strikeouts, something the team has been good at with runners on base. Rob Knowles scored Portland's only two runs and was the only bright spot in what was a very bad series Sea Dogs.

Knowles easily swipes a meaningless stolen base off of lolligagging starter Ian Kennedy.

Dillon executes a perfect "hit-and-run". Would've had the base stolen anyways.

                                Meaningless stolen base!

The Shortstop gets fooled. (how? he runs the same direction when I moved towards third to early instead of heading towards second)
