Re: "A New Day, A New Way" ---- A Seattle Mariners Franchise (MLB 09 The Show)

Mariners drop close one to Twins, 1-0. The M's now fall to 0-2 early in the year

Erik Bedard was solid going 6 IP, giving up one run and four hits.

AP - A pitcher's duel nonetheless was the second game of the year featuring the Mariners @ the Twins. Erik Bedard was good, Scott Baker was better. Baker went 7 strong innings only giving up 5 hits and striking out 6 Mariner's. At the dish Ken Griffey Jr. was 1-4, with the lone extra base hit for the M's, a double. Grif is batting a team high .375 at the plate. For the Twins, Brian Buscher was 3-4 before injuring himself rounding second base, en which his replacement runner Joe Crede would end up scoring the game's lone run on a double by LF Desmond Young. The Mariners and Twins will play game 3 of 4 next. No AAA or AA scores/stats to comment on yet.

The Kid blasts' the M's past the Twins for the first W of the year!

JS - This game was shaping up to be another pitcher's duel, that is until LF Delmon Young stepped into the box and delivered a blast over the left field fence to give the Twins an early 2-0. Later on in the bottom of the third, 3B Joe Crede hit a sacrifice fly that would make the score 3-0.

The Mariner's would strike right back however with a solo shot from Ken Griffey Jr. Griffey would also homer in the top of the seventh to give the M's the lead which would eventually lead to the victory. Griffey is 6/12 (.500) with 3 homeruns in three games this year.

Also contributing in the M's 5-4 victory were solid performances by SP Jarrod Washburn who struggled early giving up 10 hits thru 3, but settled down and hung in for the win. At the dish Jose Lopez and Yuniesky Betancourt both were 2/4 in the game. Betancourt is batting .364 so far in the season. CP Brandon Morrow got into trouble early giving up a single to Carlos Gomez, that would result in a run, but Morrow stormed back to pick up his first save of the year.

The next game or the so called "rubbermatch" between these two teams will feature Carlos Silva battling Nick Blackburn. Also starting is the MILB season! So, be prepared for up to date results on the Tacoma Rainiers and the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx.
