    Reichert leads the way

    April 3
    Boston Red Sox: 3
    Tampa Bay Devil Rays: 8

    W: Dan Reichert (1-0)
    L: Frank Castillo (0-1)

A good win for the Rays. A great outing for Dan, only allowing 2 hits and no runs through 6. The offense was also dialed in. Sterling Ferrar, one of the best leadoff hitters in the game right now, went 2-4 with a homer. He now has 3. Aubrey Huff went 1-4 with a homer and 2 rbis. Carl Crawford, in his first at bat, hit a jack 410 feet. He ended up going 2-3 with 2 rbis.

Home runs: Crawford, Ferrar, Huff, Sandberg

    POG: Carl Crawford
Key Hitters: BOS - Jason Varitek, Damian Jackson
TB - Carl Crawford, Aubrey Huff

    Time: 3:04
    Attendance: 33, 244

        Yankees win

        April 4
        (4-0) New York Yankees - 7
        (2-3) Tampa Bay Devil Rays - 5

        W - Orlando Hernandez (1-0)
        L - Sam Rowe (0-1)
        S - Mariano Rivera (3)

Not a good game for the very young Sam Rowe. The 20 year old lefty left after 4 innings, giving up 6 runs. The offense didn't help too much either. There were a lot of chances, too many to count. Most of those ended because of Toby Hall. Mr. Rally Killer went 0-4, three of those were with 2 outs and somebody in scoring position. "I had a real hard time getting a hit, it seemed like I couldn't even see the ball," Hall said. Coach Pinella, "Toby had an off day, there's nothing more you can say." Hopefully he will pick it up and do better."

Aubrey Huff went 3-5 with 2 rbis. Sterling Ferrar went 2-5 with an rbi.

        POG: Derek Jeter
Key Hitters: NY - Derek Jeter, Raul Mondesi
TB - Aubrey Huff, Greg Vaughn

            Devil Ray blowout

            April 4
            (4-1) New York Yankees - 3
            (3-3) Tampa Bay Devil Rays - 13

            W - David Lee (2-0)
            L - Jeff Weaver (0-1)

A lot of home runs and hits for the Devil Rays against the Yankee pitching staff. Also, David Lee was awesome, giving up only 3 runs through 7 innings with 7 Ks. Greg Vaughn was great, 2-5 with a homer and 4 rbis. Ben Grieve looks like he's breaking out of his slump, going 2-4 with a homer and 2 rbis. Marlon Anderson went 2-5 with a home run and 2 rbis.

            POG: Greg Vaughn
Key Hitters: NY - Derek Jeter, Rondell White
TB - Greg Vaughn, Marlon Anderson

                    Thanks

Thanks for looking! I guess people want to see the newcomers and the better looking team. The team is very inconsistent so I'll have to fix that problem.

                        Yankees win

                        April 5
                        (5-1) New York Yankees - 5
                        (3-4) Tampa Bay Devil Rays - 4

                        W - Mariano Rivera (1-0)
                        L - Jesus Colome (0-1)
                        S - David Wells (1)

I should have won this game. The Rays had a lot of chances again and nothing happened. I was winning 4-3 going into the 9th with Jeter, Giambi, and Posada up. Colome actually got Jeter out for a change, but then the stupid Jason Giambi crushed a hanging curve 421 feet. Everybody else got out, and I was going into extra innings. Nothing happened until the 11th, when Colome got bombed by the Yankees. Soriano led off the inning with a single. Jeter hit a double, but they stopped Soriano at third because of Ferrar's strong arm. Jason Giambi grounded out, holding him at third and second. Then Jorge Posada got a single and scored Soriano and it was over. I had a chance in the bottom of the 11th, with a man on first and second and two outs. Jared Sandberg was up, but he grounded out to end the game. Aubrey Huff had a home run with 3rbis.

                        POG: Derek Jeter
Key Hitters: NY - Derek Jeter, Jason Giambi

                            This just in!

Update from ESPN: The Tampa Bay Devil Rays have traded Greg Vaughn to the White Sox for Carlos Lee. So far this season, Vaughn has been one of the best hitters in the league with 6 home runs and 10 RBIs. Lee, on the other hand, has been in a slump. He has one homer and 1 RBI with a .165 batting average. To the official statement by Rays' GM Ryan Everson:

Everson: Welcome to the weekly transaction statement for the Devil Rays. We have big news today. We have made a trade with the White Sox. The Devil Rays will be receiving Carlos Lee and Greg Vaughn will be leaving. We, Lou and I, feel that Lee will give us that pop that lineup was missing. He is younger and cheaper, and will free some room in the financial department. We are looking for those young fired up players, and Lee is one of the best. We are sorry to see Vaughn go after several good years with this club, but I think it is best that he move on. Questions?

Reporter: Will he take Vaughn's spot in the lineup and his position at DH?
Everson: Yes he will. He will bat cleanup with Reggie staying at 5th.

Reporter: Did you look to trade him now specifically, since he's on a hot streak?
Everson: Well, I guess you can say that. He has good trade value right now and we feel that Lee has proven himself better and will fit nicely into this lineup.

                            Reporter: When...

Back to ESPN: We also report that Reggie Sanders, who was hit by a pitch yesterday against the Yankees, has a bruised shoulder and is day to day. His replacement, Coach Pinella said, for now is Carl Crawford.

                                Zambrano has great game

                                April 6
                                (3-5) Baltimore Orioles - 1
                                (4-4) Tampa Bay Devil Rays - 5

                                L - Sidney Ponson (0-1)

Victor Zambrano had a huge game, going 6 1/3 with 1 run on 3 hits with 6 Ks. "I had a lot of fun out there, I don't think I've ever has so much fun like that pitching. I want to thank the Devil Rays for giving me a chance."

Carl Crawford also had fun out there, going 2-3 with a homer and 2 RBIs filling in for Reggie Sanders, who is resting his sore shoulder. Carlos Lee, in his Devil Ray debut, went 2-4 with a double. Ben Grieve continues his nice hitting going 1-4 with an RBI.

                                POG: Victor Zambrano
