    Zambrano has great game

    April 6
    (3-5) Baltimore Orioles - 1
    (4-4) Tampa Bay Devil Rays - 5

    W - Victor Zambrano (1-0)
    L - Sidney Ponson (0-1)

Victor Zambrano had a huge game, going 6 1/3 with 1 run on 3 hits with 6 Ks. "I had a lot of fun out there, I don't think I've ever has so much fun like that pitching. I want to thank the Devil Rays for giving me a chance."

Carl Crawford also had fun out there, going 2-3 with a homer and 2 RBIs filling in for Reggie Sanders, who is resting his sore shoulder. Carlos Lee, in his Devil Ray debut, went 2-4 with a double. Ben Grieve continues his nice hitting going 1-4 with an RBI.

    POG: Victor Zambrano
Key Hitters: BAL - Tony Batista, Brook Fordyce
TB - Carl Crawford, Carlos Lee

    Attendance: 22, 369

      A thriller!

      April 7
      (3-6) Baltimore Orioles - 4
      (5-4) Tampa Bay Devil Rays - 5

      W - Travis Phelps (1-0)
      L - Buddy Groom (0-2)

The Devil Rays were winning 4-1 since the 2nd inning until the eighth. Travis Harper already set down the 7th inning batters one, two, three. But in the 8th, he gave up a three run homer to Jay Gibbons. So in the 9th, the Devil Rays were determined to make them pay. They did just that. Damian Rolls led off the inning with a single. Ben Grieve flied out. Jared Sandberg grounded to the second baseman and they were ready to turn the double play, but the second baseman bobbled it and couldn't get anybody. So it was 1 out with a runner on 1st and 2nd. Toby Hall flied out. Rey Ordonez was up, and he slapped a single just over the second baseman's head. Rolls scored, and the game was over.

Sandberg went 2-4 with a homer and 2 RBIs. Marlon Anderson went 1-4, but that hit was a home run.

      POG: Rey Ordonez
Key Hitters: BAL - Jay Gibbons, Tony Batista
TB - Rey Ordonez, Jared Sandberg

      Attendance: 20, 878

          Game 3 vs. Orioles

          April 8
          (3-7) Baltimore Orioles - 2
          (6-4) Tampa Bay Devil Rays - 3

          W - Graeme Lloyd (1-1)
          L - Jason Johnson (0-1)

The Devil Rays continue to win games. The sixth win of the year was all because of home runs. Three solo jacks won the game for the Rays. The pitching continues to be great also, this time because of a 23 year old righty they called up yesterday named Al Rivera. He hasn't given up a run yet in two appearances in the minors. He continued to be dominating at Tropicana Field, going 6 innings and giving up 2 runs on 9 hits. "I was nervous since it was my first game in the majors, but I think I did pretty good," Rivera said after the game. "I think these boys will teach him a thing or two about speaking up in the clubhouse and settle him down. This clubhouse is never quiet," Coach Pinella said. Jared Sandberg, the clubhouse leader, said, "I think he'll fit right in, the way he pitched today, I think he'll be here a while."

Those three home runs were off the bats of Sterling Ferrar (4), Aubrey Huff (4), and Reggie Sanders (2), who started for the first time since spraining his shoulder against the Yankees. Sanders went 2-4.

The Rays will take the day off tomorrow and head to New York for a three game series against the Yankees. Starting those games will be David Lee, Victor Zambrano, and Joe Kennedy.

              Game 1 vs. Yankees

              April 10
              (6-5) Tampa Bay Devil Rays - 2
              (7-3) New York Yankees - 3

              W - Bobby Gardner (2-0)
              L - Travis Harper (0-1)

The Devil Rays were shut down by the great Yankee pitching. Jeff Weaver dominated through 8 innings, giving up 4 hits and 0 runs.

After they took out Weaver, Carlos Lee hit a homer in the top of the ninth to tie it 1-1. Aubrey Huff got a hit to make it 2-1 in the 10th inning. The Rays brought in Travis Harper in the bottom of that inning and they let loose on him. Alfonso Soriano singled to tie. Then in the bottom of the 11th, Raul Mondesi jacked it out of the park to win the game.

"We should have won the game. The bullpen will really have to work on keeping a lead. We'll fix it," Coach Pinella said after the game in the clubhouse.

David Lee also pitched great, setting 12 down in a row at one point. He went 8 innings, giving up 1 run on 6 hits.

              POG: Jeff Weaver
Key Hitters: NY - Raul Mondesi, Alfonso Soriano
TB - Carlos Lee, Ben Grieve

Game 2 vs. the Yanks will be tomorrow. The projected starter for Tampa Bay is Victor Zambrano, who is 4th in the league in Ks.

                  OOPS

I made a huge mistake with the memory card so I won't be able to keep doing this journal. Don't ask me what it was.

Anyway, I started a Padres journal so look at it please!
