Knights lose a heart breaker in the Final Minute

The Army Black Knights were up by a score of 57-54 with just over one minute remaining in the second half of play. A sure victory if the knights could get the stops they needed.

    They didn't.

They simply broke down in the last minute of play giving up back to back two pointers while fouling in the act of shooting. They made the free throws which put the Fa. Dickenson Knights up 60-57 with 34.7 seconds remaining on the game clock. The Knights charged up court and in what could be considered by many to be some questionable play calling by rookie head coach Derek Walton by making his team take the three pointer on the run. Which was long. Fa. Dickenson hit three free throws and made it 63-57 which would end up being the final score of the game.

"People may not agree with my playcalling," said Walton. "But I thought that it was the right play considering the situation."

    Final Score:63-57
    Record:0-2

simmed the Bridgeport Tech game which I lost by the same 63-57 scoreline. But I did play the Idaho Game.

Walton Finally Gets First Career NCAA Win

It may have taken a few games longer then rookie head coach Derek Walton would have liked. But he'll take his first every NCAA win with a huge smile on his face all the way to the win column.

It was all thanks in part to the late game heroics of Dan Carson. Carson had four personal fouls along with 0 points and 0 rebounds as the game entered it's final 90 seconds.

"I decided to go with my gut and I put Danny back in there," said an elated Derek Walton. "It looks like it paid off," he said as a huge smile crossed his face.

Carson started off on defense and he didn't disappoint his bench boss one bit as he quickly grabbed the defensive rebound and outleted to a teammate. who threw up a shot which was a little off. He grabbed the offensive rebound though and slammed it home to give the Black Knights the lead.

"I thought I was going to have a stroke or something," said Walton.

"Teddy(Lagana) looked over at my from the bench, and he said don't die on us before you get your first win jokingly"

Carson then grabbed another defensive board and once again outletted, but this time he missed the defensive rebound. However, when the Black Knights were heading back on defense, Julius McCoy stripped his defendee of the ball and threw up a three which was once again missed, and hauled in by Carson. He posted up Barry Buggs of the Vandals and slamed it home for the four point lead. And then the party was on.

"Everyone on the bench was going crazy," said Walton, I felt like an eight year old kid up in the stands rather then a basketball coach"

As soon as the horn sounded the entire team rushed over to the bench and lifted their coach onto their shoulders.

"It was wierd because when I was up there, it felt like something bit my leg." said Walton. "I looked down and yelled, hey boys I'm not a steak, you get those back at the hotel"

It was a game that will stick in the mind of all those associated with Army Black Knights basketball for years to come.

Knights Make it Two In A Row with Win Over Muntaineers

It was a 64-63 ballgame in favour of the Appalachain State Mountaineers with just 4.3 seconds and with the Army Black Knights in possession of the basketball at half court. Here's Army Radio Announcer Barney Remelstone with the call.

"Four and Three Tenths remaining on the game clock now. One point lead for the Mountaineers of Apalachain State. Black Knights with possession of the ball at half court. They'll be going with Erwin, Long, Phillips, Carson, and Lagana. Lagana to inbound. They've got to get it in, they do but it's tipped. Erwins got it, FOR THREE NO GOOD! REBOUND, PHILLIPS AND HE DUNKED IT RIGHT BACK HOME! PHILLIPS WITH THE DUNK AND THE BLACK KNIGHTS WITH THE ONE POINT LEAD. OH GOLLY, DON'T GO TO BED YET!. Nine Tenth's of a second left. Here's the inbound, PICKED OFF BY LONG AND THE BLACK KNIGHTS WIN A BARNBURNER 65-64 MY GOD THAT'S TWO IN A ROW FOR THE ROOKIE COACH DEREK WALTON"

"It feels even better to have two wins," said Walton jokingly after the game.

"But seriously, I've got a great group of kids to work with and I hope we can continue this little string we've got going."

So the Army Black Knights will head home after a 2-3 road trip to start the regular season. They will make their home opener aganist the Albany Great Danes.

"It'll be a great experience for me," said Derek Walton, "It'll be my first opener since my senior year at the University of Alberta."

Player of the Gameonny Erwin 12 Point, 6 Assists, 3 Steals.

Knights Make It Three Wins In A Row With Six Point Win Over Great Danes

West Point, NY(AP)The Army Black Knights made it three wins in a row for them and their rookie head coach Derek Walton with a 66-60 win tonight over the Albany Great Danes.

"We're doing extremely well," said head coach Derek Walton.

The Black Knights are doing extremely well considering they started their regular season off with three straight losses and now have stormed right back with a very surprising but not totally unexpected three wins in a row. To some it has been a total shock, to others it hasn't been that big of a surprise.

"We're clicking right now," said Starting Point Guard for the Black Knights Donny Erwin. "At first, we were all out of synch and out of line, now in these lat three games we're starting to come together more and this is a warning of sorts to all the other teams in the country, which is don't under estimate us because you never know when a Black Knight is going to strike that fatal blow"

"Three Straight wins, and they've been aganist some pretty good competition" said Coach Derek Walton, "Don't believe everything you see on television about the competion that we're facing being a bunch of cupcakes, they're probably just as tough on any given night as a Duke or an NC State. Any team can beat any other team on any given night. That's what makes college sports so great to watch and to be apart of, it's that unpredictability factor that will always keep you on the edge of your seat, whether you be participating, watching in the stands or watching from you couch at home. You just never know what's going to happen from one play to the next, or from one basket to the next."

*Cut to the Black Knights Locker Room for the Presentation of the Sega Sports Game Ball*

"You guys know that I think that this is a team game and that it shoudln't be a game of individuls. But the guys at Sega Sports have come up with the game ball idea which is awarded to the player deemed to be the player of the game by various people in attendence. So without Further adeu here it is." said head coach Walton.

"With 12 Points, 10 Rebounds, 5 steals, and 5 blocks, this award goes to number forty-five, David Carson."

*The locker room erupts with cheers, as Carson goes up and accepts his game ball*

"I'd like to thank the academy," he said while laughing.

"No, but um, seriously, this award is really cool and I wish that all of you can have it, but you can't," Carson said immediately after he begins to laugh, as do the other players.

                  *Cut out*

Black Knights crack the .500 mark with 21 point rout of Seawolves

New York, NY(AP The Army Black Knights have made it four consecutive wins with a twenty one point victory of the Stony Brook Seawolves. It was an 83-62 victory.

"We're doing well, we're passing well and we're not being selfish like we were in our first three games." said Head Coach Derek Walton.

It took four games for coach Derek Walton to pick up his first career victory, and now he's got four of the big W's in a row. Could this be the surprise year for Army, or will the Fade away like other teams seem to do.

"Hey we get to do this twice in a row," said coach Derek Walton.

"Anyways, this person had one heck of a game tonight, 24 big time points, 9 rebounds, four steals, and three big swats. The Sega Sports Game Ball Goes to Phillip Phillips!"

*Phillips goes up and accepts the award*

                        "LET'S GO EAT!" He yells

Knights Winning Streak Stopped at Four Games

You know the old saying "All good things must come to an end" well that held true for the Army Black Knights who had their four game winning streak snapped tonight at the hands of the James Madison University Dukes.

"They played really touch defense," said Head Coach Derek Walton. "The full court zone presses really killed us in the long run,"

The Black Knights came out strong but finally subcame to the pressure of the zone press. Which caused a fifteen point loss for the Knigths by a score of 56-40.

The fourty points were the lowest output by the Black Knights so far this season(their highest being eighty-three points) But that didn't put a damper on the hopes of their head coach.

"Every Team has a bad game or two, but the team that can rebound the fastest, is the team that will be going on the longest."

                              Record:4-4
