FIU Squeaks by LaSalle to remain Undefeated

Miami, FLA(AP) Don't let the 77-68 score line misslead you, this game was much closer then it should have been.

The Golden Panthers held a twenty point advantage at the half and stretched it out to as many as twenty-eight during the second half when LaSalle starting forcing turnovers and got right back into this game.

"We played like absolute bull(Explict)during the second half tonight, if Lasalle woulda came back and beat us tonight I woulda been fine with it because it was our own damn fault that we didn't get off our asses that second half and keep pressing the entire time." An irrate Andrew Meredith said during the post game media confrence.

Nonetheless, the Panthers improved to 5-0 on the year and dropped LaSalle to a still very good 4-1 record.

Panther Pizza Award-no one deserved it.

FIU Ups the Win Streak To Six, But Not Without Scare

Orlando, FLA(AP) The Florida International Golden Panthers found a way to up their win streak to an impressive six games but it came down to the wire.

Jr Forward for USF Freddie Kennedy knocked down a clutch three point shot as the shot clock expired to put the Bulls up 76-75 with 2.2 seconds remaining on the clock.

Here's Scott Morrison with the call

"2.2 remains on the game clock, Ken Dukes to inbound the ball, baseball pass to Wadood, HE FADES AWAY, GETS IT OFF AND......IT'S GOOD! FIU WINS! FIU WINS! SHADES OF CHRISTIAN LAETTENER!"


Following the game Andrew Meredith made these comments:

"I think these kids need to stop trying to give me a heart attack every night out," He said jokingly "I'm only 31 I don't need one of those yet," "But really, We played good and we came back again and we rose up to win."

The Panthers are now 6-0 on the season but will face a real test in their next game as the head out to sunny California to take on the 6-1 Stanford Cardinal.

though my FAU Owls are better than that , I got to the sweet 16 with them (though it took a lot of luck to get that far)

"They had too much firepower for us tonight, that's all there is to it," Commented Panthers Head Coach Andrew Meredith following this evenings game.

The Big Junior forward for Stanford, Cornell Maye put up 27 points on the game along with seven rebounds.

And speaking of rebounds the Panthers will look to rebound in their next game back at home in Miami to take on 1-4 Sam Houston State.

Panthers Bounce Back with 28 point victory

Miami, FLA(AP) The Sam Houston State Bearkats ran into a buzzsaw tonight. Not just any old buzzsaw, an angry one named the Florida International Golden Panthers.

The Panthers lead by tweleve at the break and finished it off with a flurry and a finished the game off with a decisive 28 point victory.

"We were upset comming into this game," said head coach of FIU Andrew Meredith, "We're upset about losing our first game of the year(last week) and we wanted to bounce back quickly and we did just that."

Senior Guard Trace Hunt put on one heck of a show tonight. Putting up 26 points including six three point baskets. Along with his points he put up one rebound, two assists, two steals, and two blocked shots.
