    Let's Go

It's about time. The buzz has been around Charlotte for a few months. Disgruntled with the leave of the Charlotte Hornets, shipped to New Orleans, Charlotte has it's own squad again, excited to bring back hoops to the basketball capital of the United States.

    Rufus Lynx, Charlotte Bobcats Mascot

With an unfamiliar roster, Bernie Bickerstaff released the 5 starters that will begin the game at home Thursday against the Washington Wizards:

pg - Brevin Knight - A veteran in this league, and former Cleveland Cav. Hopes to bring veteran leadership to a young Bobcat team looking for a solid foundation to begin their franchise.

sg - Steve Smith - another veteran that will be vital to the Bobcats. Still has a good outside shot, although his overall game is clearly deteriorating. Dont expect him to be starting for the majority of the season

sf - Gerald Wallace - Young SEC baller from Sacramento. Wallace has an abudance of athleticism, and is eager to make a name for himself in the fickle NBA. Must improve consistency and outside shot to max out.

pf - Emeka Okafor - Emeka is the most decorated player on this year's team. He brings a defensive presence to this team, as well as a winning attitude, fresh off of a National Championship with the Connecticut Huskies.

c - Jahidi White - White is a solid big man, just here to glue down the interior defensive game for Charlotte. Undersized, but how many other Centers in the East are taller than him at 6'9? Brings his Big East inside game to Charlotte..

Eddie House, Jason Kapono, Tamar Slay, Melvin Ely - Charlotte's Bench Mob that is expected to put in big work. All of them are young, but when each of these players learn their roles, Charlotte will have a decent foundation.

            Bobcats Inagural Game vs Washington

In the very first Charlotte Bobcats game, the fans in Charlotte were in for a show. Everyone in the Arena was nervous. Players, nervous for their first ever game together, yet poised to go out and just have fun, as Coach Bickerstaff has urged them to be. The fans were nervous as well, hoping the Cats just dont get blown out, also poised to at least see the Bobcats establish a positive way of playing the game.

In the first half, both teams were sloppy. Plenty of turnovers, and plenty of mental mistakes that lead to layups. Brevin Knight was the staple for the game though. After the fast paced 1st half, Knight slowed the game down to a pace of his liking.

In the second half, the game was slower, and the Bobcats begin to throw the ball inside to rookie Emeka Okafor. Okafor played very well with 20 points and 8 boards.

In the fourth quarter, it was tied to begin, and Antawn Jamison took the game over. The Wizards went up by 15 with 3 minutes to go. Gerald Wallace of the Cats managed a momentum shifting dunk over Kwame Brown that lead to another Charlotte run. Time was of the essence, however, and Charlotte wasn't able to pull it off. Gilbert Arenas hit a clinching 3-point-shot that put the game out of reach, en route to a 107-100 Bobcats loss.

            Charlotte Bobcats
Emeka Okafor 20 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assist, 2 blocks
Steve Smith 17 points, 5 rebounds
Gerald Wallace 16 points, 5 rebounds
Brevin Knight 8 points, 7 assist

            Washington Wizards
Antawn Jamison 32 points, 11 rebounds
Larry Hughes 22 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assist
Gilbert Arenas 20 points, 8 rebounds, 10 assist

                    Orlando comes to the C-Set

2 days after a competitve game against Southeast Division Rivals, Charlotte faces another division opponent. The Magic are fresh off of off-season face lift acquiring Steve Francis, Cutty Mobley, Dwight Howard with the number 1 pick, and Jameer Nelson.

Brevin Knight controlled the pace once again, but slowed the pace down to utilize the interior game. Melvin Ely was the beneficiary, and had a solid 18 points off the bench, along with 7 rebounds. At the half, Charlotte led 35-32.

The second half was more of the same, but was dominated by aggressive Bobcats' defense. With about 2 minutes left, Orlando made a comeback, and Steve Francis hit an 18-foot jumber to bring them within one point. Following, Eddie House came down court and nailed 2 consecutive three pointers to seal the game. Bobcats win, 83-79.

                            Gerald Wallace is Hopeful

This past weekend, Gerald Wallace spoke to Charlotte's General Manager, expressing his feelings about how he feels about the team.

"I think we have a great future, and I'm very optimistic about the season. I understand we won't be the best team in the league, but I can tell that we'll have a lot of fun playing together this year", Wallace said.

Bernie Bickerstaff was happy with Wallace, and told him "the future is now!"

Wallace walked out of the meeting room, excited, jumping around before the weekend workouts in the weightroom.
