The Washington Wizards hope to restore glory and pride to the nations capital in the 2004-05 season with an improved lineup and new confidence in the locker room. The Wizards are returning four starters from last year's squad, but add a key component, a consistant scorer.

    The Starting Lineup..

pg - Gilbert Arenas - A lightning quick, lights-out point guard fully capable of tearing apart defenses.. quickly. Can do everything on the basketball court; score, distribute, rebound, and play defense. Will need to be a big contributor if Washington hopes to see the postseason.

sg - Larry Hughes - Hughes is a great defensive performer, and at times, scorch opposing defenses in a hurry. Still young and quick, Hughes is the perfect compliment to Arenas in the backcourt, and the two should provide some very entertaining highlights throughout the year.

sf - Antawn Jamison - The afore mentioned 'consistant scorer' goes by the name of Antawn Jamison. Received in a trade with Dallas that sent Jerry Stackhouse and Christian Laettner packing, the Wizards will look for Jamison to carry the bulk of the scoring load this season. He has proved over the years that he is an elite scorer, and the Wiz are looking for just that.

pf - Kwame Brown - Still trying to prove his talent after being drafted with the first pick overall in the 2001 Draft, Kwame Brown is expected to have a breakout year in '04. Fully capable of doing everything on the floor, Brown will be looked upon more often to come up with clutch baskets and key defensive stops.

c - Brendan Haywood - Another former Tar Heel to work alongside Jamison is Brendan Haywood, the big man in the middle. Haywood will be looked upon to rebound this season, but won't be looked to carry any offensive responsibilites.

    Key Players Off The Bench:
Jared Jeffries, Jarvis Hayes, Etan Thomas, and Juan Dixon.

    First Game..

The Wizards started the regular season on the road in Memphis, home of the now-playoff-team Grizzlies.

The contest started out relatively high-scoring, with both teams shooting in the upper 50 - lower 60%. Antawn Jamison and Pau Gasol exchanged buckets on numerous occassions, answering their teams calls for help.

In the latter stages of the game, the match had turned into a barn-burner. With neither team able to gain an advantage, both squads turned to their go-to-guys again. Again, Jamison and Gasol carried the loads for their respective sides, but Jamison received more help from his teammates. In a very close game, Washington edged Memphis, 102-95.

        Player Of The Game

        Antawn Jamison
        25 points, 10-25 FG's, 4 rebounds

        Arenas - 19 points, 9 assists
        Brown - 13 points, 8 rebounds

        Gasol - 30 points, 16 rebounds, 5 assists
        Williams - 15 points, 9 assists, 6 turnovers

        Second-Chance Points:
        Memphis - 30
        Washington - 8

Sure looks that way.. He isn't exactly the best ball handler in the world, so whenever he's Iso'd, he ends up taking off balanced jumpers.

He's getting his fair share of points, though..

The Wizards, fresh off a victory over Memphis, traveled east to take on the newly formed franchise of the Charlotte Bobcats, who were making their season opener.

In the early going, it was, sadly, all Bobcats. Emeka Okafor and Tamar Slay were big reasons for this, as the Washington defense had no answer for either of them. Antawn Jamison, again, had nice scoring numbers, as did Arenas, but the Wizards were unable to put the Bobcats in a hole of any kind.

However, in the second half, the Bobcats looked like a completely different team on the floor. They missed almost everything they put up, and the Wizards continued their offensive dominance. Arenas took over the game, and gave the Wizards the 113-80 win.

                    Player Of The Game

                    Antawn Jamison
                    28 points, 14-27 FG's, 6 rebounds

                    Arenas - 18 points, 7 rebounds, 14 assists, 3 steals
                    Brown - 16 points, 4 rebounds

                    Slay - 15 points, 6 assists, 7 rebounds
                    Okafor - 14 points, 7 rebounds

                    Turnovers:
                    Charlotte - 26
                    Washington - 10

The Wizards had their hands full in their home opener, taking on the new look Miami Heat with the Big Daddy in the middle.

Early on, there was apparent apathetical feelings by Heat players. They all took bad shots and shot a relatively low percentage. Gilbert Arenas did a little bit of everything, leading his team to a huge double digit lead going into the half.

The second half was much of the same, as the Heat really couldn't get anything going offensively. Dwyane Wade was the only spark Miami really had, scoring on numerous drives against the weak Washington defense. Shaq never got on a roll offensively, and the Wizards were able to take this one very easily, 86-70.

                        Brown - 10 points, 10 rebounds

                        Wade - 17 points, 8-28 FG's, 15 assists, 7 turnovers
                        Shaq - 12 ponts, 14 rebounds, 7 blocks
