The Washington Wizards traveled to Gund Arena in Cleveland, Ohio to take on the Cavaliers, hoping to dismantle King James and Co.
Very competitive from the get-go, this contest figured to be a great one. The two squads traded baskets for much of the first half, neither producing an outstanding run. Larry Hughes lead the Wizards in scoring in the early going, and Eric Snow actually carried the bulk of the offense for the Cavs. Going into the intermission, the score was locked at 42.
The second half continued right where the first one left off, with both teams trading scores and neither being able to pull away. LeBron James, who was quiet for much of the first two quarters, poured it on in the second half. Gilbert Arenas took the torch from Hughes as the Wizards leading scorer, and helped cap off a 12-2 run with a huge three-pointer from the corner. In the late minutes, the Cavs staged a comeback, and managed to tie the contest at 90 apiece with only 12 seconds left. Washington gave the ball to the hot-hand, Arenas, who took a pick and hit a fade-away three with 4 seconds left. Cleveland was unable to connect on their long three point attempt, giving the Wizards the 93-90 win.
