Press Conference

Mavs coach Don Nelson had some surprising news after the game. Here is a clip of the press conference.

Reporter: Coach Nelson, why is your team struggling on the offensive side of the ball?

Coach Nelson: Well, our starting point guard, Jason Terry, isn't really meshing to well with this new team. He seems akward and reaches for plays that aren't there.

Reporter: So, what do you plan to do about this problem

Coach Nelson: I had planned to sit it out a couple of weeks to see if he blows up, but its not happenin. Rookie Devin Harris is controlling the team better and runs the floor better. We have depth at the point guard in Dan Dickau. So my plan now is to place Mr. Terry on the trading block to try to bring in a backup power forward for Dirk. I talked to Dirk about having a different backup and he was ecstatic! He said that he really doesn't trust Alan Henderson , our current backup, with his position. He requested before the season even started that we look for a backup so thats what I'm going to do.

Reporter: Won't this be a major blow to your team

Coach Nelson: Yes, but it's early enough in the season where we can recover.

Mavs Watch First Win Fade Away

"Nowitzki shoots and!.... it clanks off of the back iron and out. MAGIC WIN " Those words were daggers into the Dallas Mavericks hearts last night as they lost in an interesting game,95-92. The winless Mavericks were stunned as they had trailed by as many as 15 and led by as many as 10."It was a rollercoaster type of game tonight and it was a darn shame that Dirk couldn't hit that last shot" commented Owner Mark Cuban.

Jerry Stackhouse on the Trading Block




Today Owner Mark Cuban placed new comer and starting small forward Jerry Stackhouse on the trading block today. "I felt he wasn't contributing to the offense at all. He averaged 2 points in 5 games so far this year. Not accpetable. I hope to get a good small forward or power forward and maybe I can trade him with Jason Terry somewhere. I'll see what offers I get on Friday."

The cause of this is unknown as he is averaging 25.5 points, 10 boards and 4.7 assists a game. Maybe he feels hes excess weight with rising star Ricky Davis and Rookie Tony Allen backing him up. Well see what plays out Friday.

The winless Mavs had high hopes going into today. The rookies were playing good the sophmores were playing great and Dirk was rolling. This was gonna be the first win of the season! Unfortunatley Shaq had something to say about that. He turned in 26 points and 12 boards. Backup center Pavel Podolkizine said "WOW! He's good" Being from Russia the rookie could only dream of playing him. The Mavs fell short yet again 104-94.

The down-trodden Mavericks still had a glimmer of hope today. They came out gunning leading early. It was tied 44-44 at the half. The Mavs let the Nets get a lead though and the Mavs were denied late again losing 97-89
