#13 Ball State vs #4 LSU

The Cardinals of Ball State took on the surging LSU Bayou Bengals on Arizona's campus in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

This game was over not too long after the opening tip took place, as the Tigers beat down Ball State, 70-48.

    Players Of The Game
    LSU - Brandon Bass - 20 points, 11 rebounds
    BSU - Dennis Trammell - 20 points

    LSU

                        #5 Alabama vs #4 LSU

Two SEC foes, the Crimson Tide and LSU Tigers, squared off in the second round of the Big Dance; the winner would advance to the Sweet 16.

To begin the game, LSU went on a 22-4 run. Although Antonio Hudson and Regis Koundjia both found themselves on the bench because of foul trouble, Tack Minor and Brandon Bass had things under control. Alabama wasn't down for long, however, and soon found themselves within three going into halftime.

After the intermission, the Crimson Tide came out inspired. Kennedy Winston continued his hot play, and Earnest Shelton got in the mix after sitting out most of the first half. The Tide actually held a 12 point lead at one point, and the Tigers started panicking. After a couple of timeouts, LSU came back, slowly but steadily, and was only down by one. Following a couple of spurts by Alabama, and a couple bigger spurts by the Tigers, LSU was up by 8. After getting it back, the Bayou Bengals held their lead, winning 74-66.

                        Players Of The Game
                        LSU - Brandon Bass - 32 points, 12 rebounds
                        ALA - Kennedy Winston - 23 points, 6 assists, 4 rebounds

                                #4 LSU vs #1 Kansas

The LSU Tigers faced a higher seed for the first time this tournament, and it had to be the heavily favored Jayhawks of Kansas.

The Tigers actually held their own in the first half, and held a comfortable lead throughout most of it. At one point in time, the Bayou Bengals had a 12 point lead over the Jayhawks. However, Wayne Simien put Kansas on his back and carried them to a lead change. Going into the half, Kansas was up by four.

Whatever the two coaches said at halftime must've worked, because the second half was one of the most exciting halves in college basketball this season. There must've been 200 lead changes, and numerous runs by the squads, making the momentum go from one team to the other in a matter of seconds. However, Kansas pulled out to a huge lead late in the period. LSU came back numerous times, and pulled within a point, but had to result to fouling at the end - giving Kansas the 93-88 win - ending the Tigers' miraculous season.
