2nd Half Meltdown Allows Jazz Victory

When a team is up by 16 at halftime, they tend to get over-confident and lose focus in the game. This is what the Orlando Magic did in their devastating loss to Utah. Their defense held it until the fourth - where everything fell apart.

Orlando allowed 34 points in the fourth quarter and scored just 34 in the second half. However, with 40 seconds left and the score 90-89 in Orlando's favor, the Magic looked to pull away with a close victory. However, Utah guard, Raul Lopez, sank a fast break three pointer with 30 seconds remaining to put the Jazz up by 2. Orlando couldn't tie it and had to resort to fouling in hopes of a win; which they were denied.

"I found an open spot and just let it go," said Lopez, "As soon as it left my hands, I knew it was going in."

"Our transition defense let me down," Magic coach, Johnny Davis said, "We had the game won, but we were cocky and allowed them to catch up."

Carlos Boozer led the game with 18 points and 13 rebounds earning ESPN's Player of the Game.

The Jazz, as a team, combined for 44 rebounds compared to Orlando's dismal, 30.

Mehmet Okur helped Boozer in the paint, scoring 16 and rebounding 11. Center, Earl Campbell had 14 and 5 respectivley.

Matt Harpring had 13. Andrei Kirilenko was quiet the entire game, scoring just 2 points. He did, however, manage 8 boards and 7 assists despite his lackluster offensive night.

For Orlando, Jameer Nelson and Steve Francis led the team. Each had 16 points and 5 assists.

Grant Hill had an off night, scoring just 12 points on a 6 of 18 performance. Rookie, Dwight Howard, also had 12. Eduardo Najera, in his second game for Orlando, scored 10 and rebounded 7.

With the loss, the Magic stand at 4-4 and face the Pacers who are 7-0 for their next game which will be in Indiana.
