Hammertime! Connor Davies, a Outside Linebackers Perspective

OOC: Most people like to do these Road to Glory threads as an offensive player. Stale, boring. So I will be bringing to you the life and times of Woodrow Wilson High School Outside Linebacker Connor Davies. From this point on all my posts in this thread will be in character. This will run like a blog or facebook page where you, the reader, can post comments on my latest games or any questions you may have in the process. Thanks for reading.

Ready. Set. Go. October 11, 2008 - 8:32 am Posted by AllstarMe

So, where to begin? Uh...well today the state playoffs start. I find it kind of weird that I live in DC, but we get lumped into Maryland for football season. I thought we were our own, separate place...but I digress.

I'm pretty excited about all of it, I mean what are we ranked...third in the state? Should be first since we beat Pulaski last week but whatever, I'm just pumped to be here this year.

Last year sucked when we lost in the finals to Tysons Corner. Should never have lost that game, but the past is the past so lets keep it there. At least Coach has been preaching that every day to us.

"Live in the moment, play for this down."

So we get Reston today...on the road. How the hell does that happen? They win some crappy Class 3 league and suddenly they get to host us? Are you kidding me with that? They lost to Tysons Corner 63-0 this year! How good can they be?

I know there is going to be some college scouts there today. Who wouldn't want to see me in action? LOL. I hate to sound cocky but, Underarmor All-American? I think so. I bet Texas, Ohio State, and all those other big time programs are going to have people in the stands for me today.

The bus leaves at 9:40, anyone going hit me up on my cell 202-231-4059 and I'll save you a spot.

One Down October 12, 2008 - 10:51 am Posted by AllstarMe

Reston was exactly what we thought they were. We went into their house and left with all their stuff. That may be a terrible analogy...but you all know what I'm talking about. I didn't have the greatest game stats wise, but all I care about is getting the win, and we did that.

The Final score was 34-0, Reston didn't really have a chance against us, and the crowd was like 85 percent our fans. It felt good to know we even had supported on the road.

The best part of the game was when I layed out their punter on Scott's punt return he took like 90 yards to the house. The kid went to make the tackle and I just lowered my shoulder into his face...Haha he went flying into our sideline.

Coach just shot me an email with my stats from the game. Not as bad as I thought.

    6 Tackles
    1 Tackle for Loss
    1 Sack
    1 Interception
    1 Forced Fumble

Ok I had a pretty good game. Gotta love the shut outs.

I found my profile on Rivals. I have never really been into that stuff but hey It helps. I figured I'd post it up here for everyone.

Really? 3 Stars? ****. I need to pick up my play. I'm not interested in any of those schools...aside from maybe...Virginia...gotta love the Cavaliers. I got some photos that Erica took. No idea how she got such great shots of me but whatever, I'm posting them up.

Wow, Tysons Corner lost to Rose Hill. Damn no revenge, but at least we get a home game next weekend.

I baited him into it, so easy.

Poor kid never saw it coming.

When is School Over? October 15, 2008 - 8:25 pm Posted by AllstarMe

Ok, big news. Depending on the offers I get, well not really. Let me start again. I'm finishing high school in December! I know what you're all thinking, how the hell am I doing it?

Well I am gonna take the GED in December so that I can enroll in school this spring so I can get extra practice time wherever I go. I don't want to be a backup, and if I don't get in until the summer I probably will be, so sucks to be you guys back here at WWHS, but I'll be spending my spring playing football and relaxing in a dorm room. I'll probably take some stupid introduction to college classes anyway.

Just thought I'd pass that on to you guys. Oh I forgot, LOST sucks. That show got way too stupid for me after the second season. Do people honestly believe an island can control their lives?

Anyway. Sprained my knee today in practice. Nothing too major, but I won't be practicing before the game against Rose Hill on Saturday. I want to see all of you there, if there are any Rose Hill fans in the stands...I'm going to punch you all in the neck.

Two To Go October 19, 2008 - 12:01 pm Posted by AllstarMe

Alright! So many people showed up last night to the game. Rose Hill was pretty good, but we did a great job of shutting them down. 24-9 was the final for anyone who didn't make it, but I'm pretty sure everyone from Tenley was there.

I went back and watched the film from last night with the defense to see how we did, and even though I only had four tackles I drilled their QB and Junior picked him off in the red zone and took it back to the house. Coach says that was the play of the game.

I got another sack, but I don't really want to count it. The kid rolled to the left and started to take off and I think I dragged him down like a yard behind the line, but hey someone was going to take him down, glad it was me.

        4 Tackles
        2 Tackles for Loss
        1 Sack
        1 Swat

I missed two chances at interceptions, but I knocked one ball down and knocked the tight end down on the other. I can't wait until the state semi's next weekend. We don't know who were playing yet, but I should be getting an email any minute.

        Lets check out Rivals again.

Some how I went up a star, I'll take it. I'm rated the 29th best outside linebacker? I want to meet this other 28 guys, I know I'm better than them. I got this weird call from ESPN today too. They said something about me being a finalist for this piece they're going to be doing on Outside the Lines called Road to Glory. I think it was a prank call.

Ah new email. We get Idylwood at home next week. On the other side it's Sudley at Glen Allen. We beat Sudley earlier this season, but Glen Allen is the top ranked school. No idea who Idylwood is...but their toast.

I'm going out of town for a few days so I probably won't update this until after the game. Cells on.

Depressed October 26, 2008 - 11:48 am Posted by AllstarMe

Idylwood got us. 17-14 was the final. It's so crappy to know that this was my last high school game and our offense just couldn't do anything to get it done. Normally we don't need to play great defense because our offense has been so insane all season, but today they just fell flat on their faces.

I finished the game with 9 tackles, my best so far in the state playoffs, but that wasn't enough. Our offense couldn't stop turning the ball over and committing penalties. I'm so happy I'm going to college now, I'm just done with this place and these guys.

Yeah it finally comes out, I don't like most of you. None of you work as hard as I do, most of you lie about your reps, lie about your diets. Whatever, that's why you'll be playing for UMBC and I'll be playing at a D1 school. Rivals one last time I guess

What The? November 14, 2008 - 1:02 am Posted by AllstarMe

Ok...I know I haven't updated this in a while but some crazy stuff has happened over the past few weeks. I played in the Under Armor All-American Game which was on ESPNU this year. I played the entire second quarter and part of the fourth. I knew this was big for me so I put on a show. Three sacks, Five tackles, and Two Forced Fumbles. Everyone was coming up to me after the game asking me where I was going.

I had no answer for them. Urban Myer called me yesterday! Said he wants me to play for the Gators! Holy ****. That's not all, I've talked to nearly every coach from every top program at least once over the past few weeks. I shot up on the Rivals ratings to the #1 LOLB prospect. How intense is that? I'm having a crappy time deciding where to play, so I need some help from anyone I guess.

I'll list the top 15 choices for me, I won't put down any place I can't see myself playing early. No particular order.

              Florida
              Texas
              LSU
              Alabama
              Virginia Tech
              Oregon
              Georgia
              BYU
              Nebraska
              Utah
              Notre Dame
              Michigan
              Virginia
              Boise State
              Army

I know Army isn't that good at football, but hey, I'm an American. lol.

Blacksburg February 1, 2009 - 7:43 am Posted by AllstarMe

I know it's been a while since I updated this blog, but the move to Blacksburg was harder than expected. The freshman dorms had no internet, but I managed to get a job at a local deli that pays insane. $18 an hour plus tips.

I moved into my apartment last weekend with Logan Thomas. He plays Tight End or whatever he does on the offense, all I know is we're pretty much the only freshmen on the team. Spring Practice begins in a few weeks, but we've been working out for two months or so, since we moved in.

Blacksburg is boring, but when the people know your on the football team, life is sweet. Erica ended up going to Georgetown. We tried to make it work but she and I just didn't see eye to eye. No hard feelings, but I wonder if she knows I nailed her sister the night before I left for school. Hah.

We open the season September 5th against Alabama, my first game, and probably the biggest game of the year for us. I can't wait for that. Wearing number 1 is what I've always wanted to do in high school, but coach wouldn't let me...now that I'm here at Virginia Tech, I'm gonna rock it. The rest of the ACC is going to fear it.
