Re: Let it Rage: An Oregon State Dynasty

    Game of the Week

    #6 Auburn 4-0 (1-0) at #8 South Carolina 4-0 (2-0)

Chris: Welcome to Columbia...Crowd goes nuts.... where the Gamecocks will hope for a different outcome than the SEC Championship against the defending national champions, the Auburn Tigers. This may very well also be a preview of this year's SEC Championship. Well, last week it was the Big XII that took center stage with Oklahoma and Texas A&M coming out on top. This week it will be primarily the SEC that will have the showcase games, but the Big Ten also has a couple of big games today also...

    Gameday Predictions

    #13 Michigan State 4-0 (0-0) at #15 Ohio State 3-1 (0-0)
    Kirk: MSU Lee: OSU

    #21 Nebraska 3-1 (0-0) at #5 Wisconsin 4-0 (0-0)
    Kirk: Wisc Lee: Wisc

    #10 Alabama 3-1 (1-0) at #16 Florida 4-0 (2-0)
    Kirk: UF Lee: Bama

Chris: Alright, so before we get to this one here in Columbia, Erin Andrews has the injury report for us. Take it away Erin.

Erin: Thanks Chris. Well, as most of you already know, Auburn's sophomore HB Michael Dyer (93) is still battling a hip pointer injury he sustained against Clemson two weeks ago. Dyer is expected to miss another two weeks so the Tigers will look toward HB Onterio McCalebb (90) to continue to play well. Also, Tiger OLB Daren Bates (87) is also hurt with a broken thumb. The trainers have tried to tape it up various different ways but the pain is still to great for Bates to play. So Auburn will have a freshman starting at OLB. In addition, Auburn's starting RG John Sullen will be out another eight weeks due to a partially torn PCL. Back up to you guys.

Chris: Thanks E.A. Those are some major injuries at some important spots. It is really too bad we couldn't see Dyer versus Lattimore again. Oh well. The show must go on. Time for your choices guys.

Kirk: I was really looking forward to seeing Auburn HB Michael Dyer and South Carolina HB Marcus Lattimore (95) go head-to-head. But this should still be a really great game. I look fore Gene Chizik's offense to keep the Gamecock defense guessing with that spread offense. I know that Cam Newton is gone but Aub QB Barrett Trotter (87) will show the nation he is pretty good too. A key target for him will be TE Philip Lutzenkirchen. And HB Onterio McCalebb is a good tailback too. If Auburn can find a way to contain Lattimore then the Tigers should stay undefeated today. Crowd boos.

Lee: Kirk, not so fast my friend! Crowd goes from booing to cheering Even if the Tigers can find a way to stop Lattimore who might be the best running back in the nation, they still need to shut down USC WR Alshon Jeffery (96). And I don't think this Auburn defense if up to the task to stop either one. Cam Newton is gone and without him this Auburn spread offense is dead against these strong SEC defenses. South Carolina wins big!

Re: Let it Rage: An Oregon State Dynasty

      #6 Auburn 4-0 (1-0) at #8 South Carolina 4-0 (2-0)

Columbia, SC - South Carolina opened the game with an unimpressive possession that resulted in a punt. Auburn took over and QB Barrett Trotter bombed it deep down the left sideline to WR Deangelo Benton who caught the ball off of the drop by USC FS Brison Williams, and took it into the end zone for a 68-yard touchdown. 7-0 Aub.

USC QB Stephen Garcia got the ensuing South Carolina drive going when he connected deep along the right sideline with WR Alshon Jeffery who made a catch in tight coverage while keeping a foot in bounds for a gain of 36 yards. However, on 4th-and-two at the Auburn 30-yard line, Steve Spurrier kept the offense on the field, and Garcia's pass was broken up over the middle.

This time Auburn would go three-and-out. But Garcia would be picked off by Aub sophomore CB Chris Davis on the next Gamecock possession. After the turnover, the Tigers were able to sustain a drive but stalled in the red zone at the USC 13-yard line. Gene Chizik would go for it on 4th-and-one, and HB Anthony Morgan was able to squeeze through a small crease to easily move the chains. Though, Trotter would later throw a ball into the end zone only to be picked off by USC junior CB Stephon Gilmore (92).

In the 2nd quarter, the Gamecocks realized that they had this beast at tailback named Marcus Lattimore, and decided to finally give him a chance to make some plays. Mainly behind the running of Lattimore, and a 15-yard reception by Jeffery, the Gamecocks moved into the red zone. The Tigers brought the heat, but Garcia took off and scrambled up the middle into the end zone for a 10-yard touchdown to tie the game. 7-7.

After the Gamecocks at knotted up the score, both defenses took over as both Auburn and South Carolina would go three-and-out. But Auburn on its next drive was able to move to midfield. Chizik decided to be really aggressive, going for it on 4th-and-one at midfield, and Trotter's pass was deflected at the line of scrimmage to fall to the ground. As a result, South Carolina took over with great field position, and the Gamecocks were able to put together a nice drive finished off with Garcia connecting with WR Alshon Jeffery in the back of the end zone for a 9-yard touchdown to put USC in front 14-7.

The Tigers now found themselves down for the first time, and Auburn would be forced to punt when Trotter was sacked on the 3rd down. South Carolina in the final minute was able to drive out to midfield where Garcia's hail mary pass was broken up in the end zone to take it to halftime.

After both teams were forced to punt to start the 3rd quarter, Auburn QB Barrett Trotter threw up a prayer into coverage where he was intercepted by USC SS DJ Swearinger. Though South Carolina would go three and out, and Auburn on the ensuing possession, was able to drive into position to attempt a 29-yard field goal that just barely squeaked through the left upright. 14-10 USC.

South Carolina then started to get HB Marcus Lattimore going on the ground again with success. And then Lattimore found an opening on a simple run up the gut, cut behind a block, and found nothing but green in front of him, taking it 52 yards to the house. 21-10 USC at the end of the 3rd quarter.

To open the 4th quarter, the Gamecock fans were really into the game. Auburn head coach Gen Chizik, sensing that the game was getting away from his Tigers, decided to go for it on 4th-and-two at the USC 45-yard line. Trotter dropped back to pass, and surprisingly went over the top to WR Emory Blake who had gotten behind USC CB Stephon Gilmore who may have been playing hurt since he had just come back from an injury. Regardless, Blake was wide open to make the catch, and then ran out of Gilmore's tackle, to take it into the end zone for a 45-yard touchdown.

Chizik then kep the offense on the field to try for two. HB Onterio McCalebb took the snap out of the wildcat, handed the ball off HB Anthony Morgan on the sweep to the left who sped around, diving desperately to get into the end zone, and just barely managed to cross the plane to make it 21-18 USC with still 6:22 remaining in the game.

Just like that, Auburn was only down a field goal. And South Carolina would go three-and-out. So Auburn now had a chance to take the lead. However, Chizik's aggressiveness did not pay off when the Tigers went for it on 4th down yet again. At their own 46-yard line, on 4th-and-four, Trotter dumped it off to Morgan on screen, but South Carolina read the play, and broke it up. So now it was South Carolina that had the field position. Though Auburn's defense came up big, and the Gamecock trotted out the kick team to attempt a long, 54-yarder that was kicked well wide right of the goalpost.

On the ensuing possession, Auburn QB Barrett Trooter went deep down the left sideline to a wide open WR Emory Blake for his 2nd touchdown reception on the 23-yard reception as Auburn retook the lead. 25-21 Auburn with just 2:05 remaining.

It was now up to South Carolina QB Stephen Garcia to put together a last minute drive, but the Gamecocks needed a touchdown. Garcia did not disappoint as he marshalled South Carolina into the red zone where it all came down to a 4th-and-goal play at the 3-yard line with under a minute left in the game. Garcia dropped back to pass, could not find anybody open, and dumped it off to Lattimore in the flat. Lattimore made the catch behind the line of scrimmage, tried valiantly but was swarmed by Tiger defenders, and was taken down well short of the gaol line at the 2-yard line for a huge goal line stand.

There was nothing South Carolina could do at that point but watch Trotter kneel in the victory formation as the Tigers inch past South Carolina with a tremendous comeback to stay unbeaten.

Re: Let it Rage: An Oregon State Dynasty

        Oregon State 2-1 (1-0) at Arizona State 3-1 (1-0)

Tempe, AZ - This was the marquee game of the week for the Pac-12. Arizona State now sits on top of the Pac-12 South after a big 27-24 win over USC last week while Oregon State stays in the hunt in the Pac-12 North with their victory over UCLA last week. So this was actually a pivotal game for both the Beavers and the Sun Devils to stay in the race for the conference championship. Coming into the season, Oregon State was worried about their defensive line, but thus far the run defense has been amazing. The Beavers so far have one of the top run defenses in the nation after holding UCLA HB Jonathan Franklin to only 20 yards. Unfortunately, the experienced secondary has not been so fabulous, and the Beavers would be facing an Arizona State air raid offense in a hostile environment. So this could get interesting.

The Beavers looked like they were well prepared early on with their first possession crossing into ASU territory. That was until QB Ryan Katz was intercepted by ASU CB Osahon Irabor.

Fortunately, Oregon State's defense started a lot better, forcing an ASU three-and-out. Though Oregon State's second possession was even uglier, going 15 yards backwards after a disastrous toss play that dropped HB Ryan McCants 8 yards behind the line of scrimmage, and then Katz was sacked. As a result, OSU had to punt from their own end zone. However, the Beaver defense held strong, and forced ASU to settle for a 32-yard field goal. 3-0 ASU.

Sun Devil Stadium was now really rocking but the Beavers still managed to put together a decent drive until ASU OLB Brandon Magee came in on a blitz to sack Ryan Katz for already his 2nd sack of the game. Oregon State trotted out the kick team to attempt a 52-yarder. It had the distance but just barely missed wide right to the delight of the ASU fans.

In the 2nd quarter, Arizona State was able to split the uprights on a 48-yard field goal attempt. 6-0 ASU.

Oregon State's offense continued to struggle with another three-and-out. Then on the ensuing possession, ASU QB Brock Osweiler went deep to WR TJ Simpson who beat OSU CB Brandon Hardin for a 50-yard touchdown. 13-0 ASU.

The Beavers could not envision a worse start and just did the best they could to get back into the game with a good looking drive. Just when it looked like Katz had figured the ASU defense out, on a playaction pass, Katz went deep over the middle too late to WR Markus Wheaton, and was picked off by ASU SS Eddie Elder.

All the momentum was with the Sun Devils, and now the ASU offense was an unstoppable offensive machine, moving at will down the field. That was until in the red zone, Osweiler threw into the end zone where OSU CB Jordan Poyer came up with a huge interception. The Beavers sideline erupted as finally they had made a play.

Then the Beavers took over, and HB Ryan McCants busted out a 17-yard run up the gut. Then on 3rd-and-long, Katz dumped it off to McCants on a screen that went for 22 yards. However, Katz was unable to make a play to keep the drive going, and the Beavers would again have to punt with :28 left to go in the half. So Arizona State took their 13-0 lead into halftime.

The Sun Devils wasted little time before they were able to increase the lead when Osweiler on the very first play of the 3rd quarter, went deep over the middle to the University of Oregon transfer WR Aaron Pflugrad, who made the catch in the hole of the zone, and took it all the way for a 75-yard touchdown just as most of the fans had taken their seats. 20-0 ASU.

Sun Devil Stadium was now really into the game, but finally, the Beavers countered back with an impressive drive capped off with HB Jordan Jenkins taking up the middle for an 11-yard touchdown run . 20-7 ASU.

And then on the ensuing possession, ASU QB Brock Osweiler made a mistake, throwing over the middle where OSU MLB Rueben Robinson was able to make the interception.

The Beavers could now sense that momentum was on their side, and so could the fans, as Sun Devil Stadium roared to life, cheering on their defense. Ultimately, Oregon State was forced to punt despite the good field position. However, Hekker made a terrific punt that was downed at the six-yard line. On the very next play, Osweiler took the snap from the gun, and saw a hoard of OSU defenders coming at him right up the middle. Osweiler was flustered, tried desperately to run forward, but was taken down by DT Dominc Glover and MLB Rueben Robinson for a safety. 20-9 ASU.

Despite getting the ball with decent field position, the Beavers could only get in position to tack on a 45-yard field goal. 20-12 ASU.

The Beavers had suddenly put 12 unanswered points on the scoreboard and were theoretically one score away from tying the game. But the Sun Devils were able to march down the field. Though the drive stalled at the OSU 21-yard line. Head coach Dennis Erickson decided to go for it on 4th-and-one. Osweiler handed it off to HB Cameron Marshall for only one of his nine carries in the entire game, and OSU SS Josh LaGrone was able to take him down behind the line of scrimmage.

It was now anybody's game heading into the 4th quarter. OSU QB Ryan Katz led a fantastic drive and then managed to finish it off himself with a 9-yard scramble into the end zone.

Head coach Mike Riley decided to try and tie the game right here. The Beavers spread things out and then had Katz hand it off to McCants, but the Sun Devil defense was not fooled at all, and McCants was stuffed in the backfield. 20-18 ASU with still 5:44 left to go.

Arizona State's next possession would be cut short when OSU DT Dominic Glover sacked Osweiler on 3rd down to force the Sun Devils to punt. The Beavers took over and put together their best drive of the game. Despite Katz being sacked by ASU MLB Vontaze Burfict (95) early, Katz connected with WR James Rodgers for 27 yards to keep the drive alive. Later, at the 13-yard line, Katz hit TE Joe Halahuni in tight coverage on a crossing pattern. Halahuni made the catch, broke a tackle, then fought his way between two Sun Devil defenders, and managed to dive across the goal line for a touchdown! The Beavers would again fail on the 2-point attempt but had managed to score 24 unanswered points to take their first lead of the game. 24-20 OSU.

Now it was Arizona State that had all of the pressure to score a touchdown with only 1:13 remaining. But the Sun Devils would get a huge chunk of the yardage they needed when ASU WR Gerell Robinson got by OSU SS Josh LaGrone, and Osweiler hit him for a huge 55 yard gain to get the Sun Devils all the way down to the OSU 20-yard line. However, OSU DT Dominic Glover made another huge sack on 3rd down. So with only :31 left to go, on 4th-and-seven, Osweiler threw toward the right corner of the end zone, where OSU SS Josh LaGrone was able to break it up. The Beavers survive a thrilling comeback victory in Tempe to remain unbeaten in conference play.

        Oregon State 24
QB Ryan Katz: 22/37, 270 yds, td, 2 int, rush td
HB Ryan McCants: 20 car, 129 yds
WR James Rodgers: 8 rec, 100 yds

            Game of the Week

            #1 Oklahoma 4-0 (1-0) vs Texas 3-1 (1-0)

Chris: Welcome everybody to one of the great rivalries in college football. We are here for the Red River Rivalry between the #1 Oklahoma Sooners and the Texas Longhorns. The Sooners so far are the undisputed #1 team in the nation especially after taking down Florida State down in Tallahassee. While Texas has already dropped one to UCLA, the second year in a row that the Bruins have defeated the Longhorns. But we throw out the records in a rivalry game like this. There is obviously a lot on the line for Oklahoma today. But if Texas can beat their hated rivals, the Longhorns will be at least be tied for 1st in the Big XII. Might this be the last time that both of these teams represent the Big XII in this classic rivalry?

Meanwhile, down in the hotly contested SEC, #19 Florida, fresh off their loss to Alabama last week, will meet with #6 LSU in what should be a great game with a ton of significance. The Bayou Bengals shocked the nation with their obliteration of Oregon in the opening week. It was not shocking to see LSU beat the Ducks, but it was the way the Tigers just dominated Oregon. I think we all knew LSU could not possibly be that good, and Oregon could not possibly be that bad. And of course, that is how it has turned out as LSU fell to Mississippi State, and Oregon has climbed into the top ten. So suddenly, LSU needs a win just to stay alive in the SEC West with Auburn, Alabama, and Ole Miss. And Florida needs to beat LSU to keep up with South Carolina in the SEC East. That is just a small preview of what we have to get to today...

            Gameday Predictions

            #19 Florida 4-1 (2-1) at #6 LSU 4-1 (1-1)
            Kirk: LSU Lee: LSU

            #12 Ohio State 4-1 (1-0) at #16 Nebraska 4-1 (1-0)
            Kirk: OSU Lee: Neb

            #21 Miami 3-1 (0-1) at #14 Virginia Tech 5-0 (1-0)
            Kirk: VT Lee: VT

Chris: Don't sleep on the Hokies. If Virginia Tech does get by Miami, the Hokies should be legitimate title contenders. Okay, so that brings us to this little Red River Rivalry we have here today. Can Texas take down Oklahoma?

Kirk: Oklahoma is just loaded. Especially on offense. OU QB Landry Jones (94) is having a great year and I expect WR Ryan Broyles (96) and Kenny Stills (93) to run circles around those very young Longhorn corners. I just don't see any way that Texas will be able to slow down Oklahoma's dynamic offense. And unfortunately for Texas, I don't know how they are going to be able keep up with Oklahoma on the scoreboard. The Longhorns will need to win the turnover battle, and the ball to bounce their way on a number of plays for Texas to have any chance today. I look for Oklahoma to win big.

Lee: Yep, could not agree more Kirk. Texas QB Garrett Gilbert has not been good at all. He has only thrown six touchdowns and has six interceptions. That's not good. Plus he has a 44.6 completion percentage. That's not good at all. And now he will face the best defense he has played so far. Oh boy. Kirk, I agree. This one will be over by halftime.

                    #1 Oklahoma 4-0 (1-0) vs Texas 3-1 (1-0)

Dallas, TX - Both teams opened with unimpressive three-and-outs. Oklahoma would get already its 2nd sack of QB Garrett Gilbert on the Longhorns' next possession. As a result, Texas faced a 3rd-and-long. The Sooners brought the pressure again, and Gilbert lofted a pass up into coverage where OU FS Sam Proctor came down with it, and returned it to the Texas 20-yard line.

Oklahoma was in business with great field position, but the Texas defense came up with a big goal line stand. As a result, Oklahoma settled for a 26-yard field goal. 3-0 OU.

On the ensuing possession, Texas finally got something going on offense when Gilbert connected with WR Mike Davis (90) on a 13-yard slant. Then HB Cody Johnson converted a couple first downs. Though the drive would stall in OU territory, and Texas would have to punt the ball away.

The Sooners took over and QB Landry Jones (94) found TE Trent Ratterree for a 29-yard gain over the middle. Plus, Ratteree was taken down by the facemask, tacking on another 15 yards to get the Sooners into scoring position. Where HB Roy Finch was able to take it into the end zone on a 1-yard touchdown run on a toss to left. 10-0 OU.

In the 2nd quarter, the Oklahoma offensive machine continued to roll as QB Landry Jones connected found WR Jaz Reynolds for a 5-yard touchdown to finish off a 12-play, 78-yard drive. 17-0 OU.

The Sooners would then add to their lead by tacking on a 26-yard field goal. 20-0 OU.

Texas was really struggling on offense, going three-and-out again. Oklahoma took over right where they left off with Jones hitting WR Ryan Broyles (96) on a 15-yard curl, who then took it another 35 yards down the sideline all the way to the Texas 21-yard line.

Not long after, inside the red zone, Jones hooked up with WR DeJuan Miller for a 6-yard touchdown. 27-0 OU.

The Longhorns would respond with another three-and-out, and Texas was now 0-for-7 on 3rd down conversions. To make matters worse for Texas, OU QB Landry Jones led the Sooners on a last minute drive to tack on a 38-yard field goal just before halftime. 30-0 OU.

At the break, Landry Jones was 17-for-21, with 273 passing yards, and two touchdowns. The Sooner juggernaut continued its way with the Longhorn defense to open the 3rd quarter. Jones dumped it off to HB Brennan Clay on a perfectly executed screen for a 9-yard touchdown to cap off an 11-play, 75-yard drive. 37-0 OU.

Then on the ensuing possession, Texas QB Garrett Gilbert was intercepted by OU OLB Travis Lewis. And that is when the boo birds came out from the one entire side of the Cotton Bowl in burnt orange.

Though the Longhorns were at least able to make a stop in the red zone, and Oklahoma settled for a 26-yard field goal. But Oklahoma was still up 40-0.

Texas would again go three-and-out, but on the ensuing punt return, OU WR Ryan Broyles was hurt. Broyles was carted off the field. Later, the diagnosis was a strained back which would probably keep him out seven weeks. Despite the injury, Oklahoma tacked on another field goal on a 30-yarder. 43-0 OU.

That would take the game into the 4th quarter where the OU head coach Bob Stoops called off the dogs, and subbed in his backups. Texas took advantage, and HB Cody Johnson was able to punch in a goal line run from the 1-yard line to finally get the Longhorns on the scoreboard. 43-7 OU.

Head coach Mack Brown then also put in the backups. So the rest of the game was pretty much garbage time. The Sooners would eventually put another three points on the board with a 43-yard field goal to make it 46-7 OU. Eventually, the clock finally ticked triple zero, and the game was finally over as most of the fans had already headed for the exits. The Sooners hammer the Longhorns in dominant fashion to show the country that Oklahoma is still the undisputed #1 team in the land.

                      Arizona 1-4 (0-3) at Oregon State 3-1 (2-0)

Corvallis, OR - It was another beautiful day at Reser Stadium where Oregon State hosted the 1-4 Arizona Wildcats. The Wildcats are not off to a great start with their only win coming against FCS competition. However, Arizona has had a brutal opening schedule. The Wildcats lost a close game in Stillwater to Oklahoma State 28-27, then lost to Stanford 42-33, then lost to Oregon 42-27, and then lost at the Coliseum to USC 28-25. So facing Oregon State was likely Arizona's easiest opponent since the FCS team. The Beavers knew they faced a hungry team that was desperate for a win.

Reser Stadium witnessed four consecutive punts to open the game, as nothing relevant happened in the 1st quarter. Although at the end of the quarter, the Beavers finally put a drive together, and as the 2nd quarter opened, HB Ryan McCants took a run up the middle for a 6-yard touchdown to cap off a 10-play, 85-yard drive. 7-0 OSU.

Arizona also finally discovered their offense, and QB Nick Foles drove the Wildcats into the red zone. However, OSU came up with a goal line stand to force Arizona to settle for a 23-yard chip shot. 7-3 OSU.

Oregon State was unable to replicate the success of the previous drive, going three-and-out. The Wildcats took over, and Foles marched Arizona right back into the red zone. Again, the Beaver defense held strong as Arizona only came away with a 32-yard field goal. 7-6 OSU.

The Beavers continued to struggle on offense as the passing game was completely out of rhythm, and OSU would got three-and-out again. Arizona took over, and drove into OSU territory again, but the Foles was sacked on consecutive plays. So the Wildcats had to punt. The Beavers now had a chance to increase their lead before halftime, but again only went three-and-out. It would only be 7-6 at the break. Reser fans were only to happy that the pitiful first half had come to an end.

Defense continued to be the name of the game to start the 3rd quarter with an Arizona three-and-out. Then on the ensuing possession for Oregon State, the Beavers actually managed to move the chains, as the Reser Stadium woke up as they finally had something cheer for. OSU would move into Wildcat territory where they got in position to attempt a 47-yard field goal. However, Arizona blocked the field goal attempt! Fortunately, the Beavers recovered the football, but Arizona now had great field position.

The Wildcats were now poised to take the lead. Foles led Arizona back into the red zone. But again, the Wildcats were stopped in the red zone, and had to settle for a 25-yard field goal to take a 9-7 lead.

On the ensuing possession, OSU's offensive struggles were back, would go three-and-out yet again. To make matters worse, OSU HB Ryan McCants was seen heading to the locker rooms. It was later reported that McCants had a dislocated elbow, and was likely to be out 11 weeks. Losing McCants was a huge blow for the Beavers especially since he had pretty much been their entire offense to this point of the game.

OSU was able to force Arizona to punt, and the Beavers moved into position to attempt a 46-yard field midway in the 4th quarter which split the uprights to regain the lead for the Beavers. 10-9 OSU with 4:47 remaining.

Arizona QB Nick Foles the led a clutch drive into the red zone. And this time, Foles found WR David Douglas on an out pattern, where he was taken down by OSU OLB Cameron Collins, but not before he had gotten into the end zone. Touchdown Wildcats!

Then Foles on the 2-point try dropped back to pass, could not find anybody open, and scrambled up the middle untouched into the end zone. 17-10 Arizona.

On the ensuing possession, the Beavers went with the only thing that was working in the their offense, and that was the ground game. Whether McCants was there or not. OSU HB Jordan Jenkins took it right up the middle, burst through a hole untouched as Reser Stadium roared to life. Jenkins saw nothing but green in front of him, and took it all the way for a 55-yard touchdown scamper to tie the game 17-17 with still 3:35 left to go.

Then on the ensuing Arizona possession, Foles threw one up to the left sideline, where OSU CB Jordan Poyer was there for the interception! Poyer broke a tackle, and was off to the races, taking it down the sideline for a pick-six to suddenly put Oregon State in front 24-17 with just 1:43 remaining.

It was now up Arizona's QB Nick Foles to lead a last minute drive to tie up the game. Foles quickly led the Wildcats into OSU territory with ease. But OSU's defense stiffened, and the Wildcats faced a 4th-and-11 at the OSU 31-yard line with just :24 left on the clock. Foles out of the gun, hit WR David Douglas on a slant, where he was taken down at the 16-yard line for the first down. Foles ran up and got his team in position to down the football. Then on 2nd down, OSU DE Taylor Henry bursted through the offensive line, and took down Foles for a huge sack with only :14 remaining. Reser Stadium was further electrified by the play, and the roar only continued as Foles lined up the Wildcats as quickly as he could. Foles got the snap out of the gun, and threw the ball away. So it would all come down to a 4th-and-17 play from the OSU 24-yard line, with just :03 left in regulation. Foles took the snap out of the gun, was given an eternity in the pocket, lofted a pass to the left sideline, where it was knocked down by OSU CB Jordan Poyer. Reser Stadium roared even louder, and the Beavers celebrated an improbable comeback on their home turf to stay undefeated in the Pac-12.

The Beavers landed their first two prospects of the 2012 class. Three-star HB Jamil Kennedy, from Newberg, Oregon officially committed to Oregon State after his visit to Corvallis. Kennedy has tremendous lateral ability, is adept at making defenders miss, and has a good stiff arm. He is a tough tailback to bring down. Though Kennedy has some speed, he does not have that initial quick burst. Oregon State also received a commitment from three-star C Chris Smith, from Kapaa, Hawai'i. Smith also had offers from Washington, and Hawai'i, but chose the Beavers after his visit to Corvallis this weekend. The 6'4", 296 pound center can move pretty well, and should be a good pass blocker. Though Smith needs to work on his run blocking skills. Smith really impressed coach Riley with his knowledge of the game which should help the Hawaiian native see the field sooner than later.

Oregon State also received verbal commitments from three-star WRs Marcus Armstrong and Will Schroeder, and are expected to officially commit very soon. It was not all good news though for the Beavers on the recruiting trail. Three-star MLB Jabar Pitts, from Hesperia, California, gave Washington a verbal commitment. Pitts has been one of the Beavers' top targets. And three-star CB Phil Merritt, from Kenmore, Washington committed with Boise State.

Chris: We are back in SEC country here at Auburn University...Crowd goes nuts....where the #3 Auburn Tigers host the #14 Florida Gators. Florida comes in with only one loss to Alabama. Crowd boos But the Gators are riding high after a big win last week over LSU. The Bayou Bengals now in all likelihood are probably already out of the SEC championship discussion with two conference losses. Auburn had a huge win just a few weeks ago with a great comeback to take down South Carolina. Crowd goes crazy. But these Tigers are definitely not the same without Cam Newton and Nick Fairley. Auburn needs this win to stay on top of a very competive SEC West, where they are still tied with Alabama, Crowd boos...and Ole Miss. While Florida needs the win to keep up with South Carolina in the East.

                            Kirk: Mich Lee: Mich

Chris: It is too bad that MSU QB Kirk Cousins is still out, but that one in East Lansing should be good. Nice to see that rivalry mean something again with both teams ranked. Well, before we get to our picks for this one here, Erin Andrews has an injury report for us. Take it away Erin.

Erin: Thanks Chris. Unfortunately, Florida is littered with injuries. DT Sharrif Floyd (88) will still be out another seven weeks with a partially torn MCL. While the big injury the Gators suffered last week was QB John Brantley who broke his foot, and is expected to be out another three weeks. As a result, the Gators will rely on true freshman QB Jeff Driskel to get it done. Driskel filled in nicely last week on the road at LSU. But expecting him to carry the team here in Auburn could be too much to ask of freshman. One bit of maybe good news is that sophomore SS Matt Elam (86) might be able to go today. He is still recovering from a strained quad, but the Gators have him listed as questionable for today's game. Oh, and almost forgot...Auburn HB Michael Dyer (93) will be availabe today for the first time since the injury he sustained. I think that about covers it guys. Back to you.

Chris: Those are some tough injuries. It will be interesting to see how the true freshman handles the pressure today. Okay guys, the headgear is here so that means it is time to make your predictions. How do you see this one playing out?

Kirk: If the Gators are going to have any chance of winning today, they are going to need to force turnovers. That has been one of their recipes for success this year. Florida is ranked 6th in the nation in turnover differential with a plus-8. Unfortunately, Auburn QB Barrett Trotter (88) and the rest of the Tiger offense does not really make many mistakes. I might give Florida a chance but the Gators just have too many injuries at key positions. Florida has a ton of weapons such as HB Jeff Demps (89, 99 spd), and WRs Deonte Thompson, and Chris Rainey, but I'm not sure the Gators will be able to get it to them consistently. Especially being forced to go with a freshman QB here at Auburn for his first career start. That is just too tough. Auburn runs away with this one. Crowd goes crazy

Lee: Starting a true freshman in this environment. Enough said sweetheart! Give me that!

Auburn, AL - It was a wet afternoon but it would not dampen the spirit of the Tiger fans. Though Auburn opened the game with an unimpressive three-and-out. The Gators took over and actually had some success moving the ball into Auburn territory, but the drive stalled, and new head coach Will Muschamp decided to go for it at the Auburn 43-yard line on 4th-and-3. True freshman UF QB Jeff Driskel playfaked to HB Jeff Demps, and threw over the middle only to have his pass knocked down. Jordan-Hare Stadium went crazy after the big stop. The Tigers were then able to march into Gator territory only to be held at the goal line where Auburn settled for a 20-yard chip shot. 3-0 Auburn.

The Gators would be forced to punt on the ensuing possession. Then Auburn took over and moved right back into the red zone. This time HB Michael Dyer was able to punch it in from two yards out to put the Tigers up 10-0.

Florida then was able to get something going when Driskel hit WR Chris Rainey for a 1st down. While Demps was able to move the chains with a couple of nice runs to eventually get the Gators into the red zone. As the 2nd quarter opened Driskel went over the top to Rainey in the back of the end zone for a 16-yard touchdown. 10-7 Auburn.

The Gators had now suddenly gained the momentum, and it carried over to their defense. As Auburn would go three-and-out, when QB Barrett Trotter was take down for a sack on 3rd down. It would be the beginning of what would be five consecutive three-and-outs between both teams. The Gators would break the monotony when Driskel connected with Rainey on multiple occasions. It was becoming apparent that the Tigers could not cover the speedy receiver. HB Jeff Demps also was able to find some small holes. Florida was able to move methodically into the red zone, where at the 2-yard line, Driskel tried to go to Rainey in the end zone again, but this time the pass was picked off by Auburn SS Demetruce McNeal all 104 yards for a pick-six. The true freshman had made a huge error that cost the Gators, and now Auburn had suddenly gotten a major point swing in their favor. 17-7 Auburn with just :35 left in the 2nd quarter.

The Gators would then go three-and-out, and the Tigers would just run the clock out, happy to have a ten point lead at halftime.

For the fans who did not get back to their seats in time, or for the television viewers that were busy getting their snack or beverage of choice, and for whatever did not get back in time for the start of the 3rd quarter, those viewers sure did not miss anything. There were six consecutive three-and-outs to open the 3rd quarter. Finally, the Gators got something going when Demps broke outside for a 24-yard run, and Florida moved into the red zone. Where Driskel scrambled in for a 9-yard touchdown. It would be 17-14 Auburn going into the 4th quarter.

Jordan-Hare was now getting a little nervous as this game seemed to be slipping away. And the offensive struggled continued for the Tigers as they went three-and-out again. Fortunately, for the Tigers, Florida was not doing much better, as both teams' punters were getting a workout. AThe Gators also would go three-and-out. Then to nobody's surprised, Auburn again went three-and-out, as the Gator defense was just shutting down the Tiger offense. The Gators were again the ones to breakout as Florida was able to drive to the Auburn 31-yard line. But on 4th-and-4, Driskel tried to scramble up the middle after nobody was open, but ran into the Tiger defense, and was sacked for a huge stop. The turnover on downs also woke up Jordan-Hare.

It now seemed like Auburn had the momentum after the big defensive stand. But the Tigers still could not find their offense, and went three-and-out yet again. Then the Gators took over and drove surprisingly behind the passing of their true freshman QB Jeff Driskel. Florida made their way to the Aubrn 31-yard line, where Driskel connected with WR Deonte Thompson over the middle, who was met by a host of Auburn defenders. One of those defenders, CB T Sharvan Bell was able to strip the football right out of the grasp of Thompson. Fumble! And the Tigers recovered the football. Jordan-Hare roared when the official pointed in the direction that gave Auburn the football.

The defending national champions had come up with another big defensive play but Auburn's offense again failed to produce, disappointingly going three-and-out yet again. Florida coach Muschamp used all his timeouts to give his Gators one last chance. Could the true freshman really bring the Gators back to win against the defending national champions? The drive did not get off to a good start as Driskel was sacked on the first play. The freshman was then forced to spike the ball to preserve time. So it was now 3rd-and-17 on their own side of field. On the next play, Driskel bombed a prayer down the left sideline. Amazingly, WR Chris Rainey lept up and made the catch, where he was taken down at the Auburn 21-yard line for a 50-yard gain.

Then with :18 left, Driskel hit Rainey again for 10 yards where he was taken down at the 2-yard line. Then disaster occurred when Driskel was sacked. The crowd was brought to a frenzy. Driskel ignored the noise, was able to gather his team into position to snap the football, and spike the ball with just :01. Quite an accomplishment for a freshman or anybody for that matter. So out trotted the Gator field goal team. And just as we were about to find out if the Gators would tie the game, the whistle blew. "Timeout Auburn," announced the official. Auburn head coach Gene Chizik would use both of his remaining timeouts to try and ice the kicker. Eventually though, the Gators would snap the ball. The snap was good. The hold was good. And it split the uprights to tie the game 17-17 to take it to overtime.

The Gators won the coin toss and elected to play defense first. So Auburn would have the ball first. The possession got off to a slow start with two incomplete passes by Trotter. But on 3rd-and-10, Trotter was able to find WR Deangelo Benton along the sideline for a gain of 15 yards. On the next play, HB Michael Dyer got the handoff, cutback to the left side, found a lane, eluded a tackle at the 2-yard line, and took it into the end zone for a 10-yard touchdown scamper. 24-17 Auburn.

Florida now needed to score a touchdown, and it would all come down to 4th-and-4 from the 19-yard line. Driskel went deep to Rainey but was intercepted by Auburn CB Chris Davis. Jordan-Hare gave a thunderous roar as the defending national champions had hung on to somehow pull out the victory and stay undefeated.

                                BYU 2-4 at OREGON STATE 4-1 (3-0)

Corvallis, OR - This would be the third air raid offense in a row the Beavers would face which may help explain why Oregon State is ranked near the bottom in pass defense while being first in rush defense. It has not been a good season so far for the Cougars of Brigham Young University who came in with only two wins. It was another beautiful evening in the Willamette Valley where Oregon State hosted BYU at Reser Stadium. The Beavers seemed more fired up for this one than usual despite being without starting HB Ryan McCants who has been a workhorse for this offense.

BYU opened up passing the ball with QB Jake Heaps getting the Cougars out to the OSU 40-yard line. But on 4th-and-6, a screen to HB JJ Di Luigi went for no gain, and BYU had to give up the football on downs.

Oregon State took advantage of the good field position with a balanced, methodical drive in which HB Jordan Jenkins punched it in on a 6-yard touchdown scamper to cap off a 10-play, 61-yard drive. 7-0 OSU.

On the Beavers next possession in the 2nd quarter, QB Ryan Katz hit WR James Rodgers on a deep corner route where he was pushed out of bounds at the BYU 25-yard line for a 35 yard reception. Then on the very next play, Katz dropped back to pass, could not find anybody open, and decided to scramble. Katz was able to outrace the a BYU LB to sideline, dodging a diving tackle, and raced down the sideline into the end zone for a 25-yard touchdown to finish off a 10-play, 84-yard possession. 14-0 OSU.

It was all Beavers as BYU was forced to punt again after a three-and-out. Oregon State went for the knockout blow when Katz playfaked to HB Jordan Jenkins, and went deep to Rodgers. But the pass was thrown into coverage and was easily intercepted by BYU CB Corby Eason.

The turnover seemed to light a fire and got the BYU offense going when Heaps dumped a screen to HB JJ Di Luigi that went for 29 yards. The Cougars appeared like they might actually be able to get onto the scoreboard until OSU DE Taylor Henry burst around the offensive line to sack Heaps. However, the Beavers again were unprepared for a screen. As Luigi went for 38 yards where he was finally taken down inside the 10-yard line. Not long after, Heaps found WR Cody Hoffman in the end zone for a 6-yard touchdown. 14-7 OSU.

BYU was back in the game and momentum was now in their favor as the Beavers would go three-and-out. The Cougars then went back to Di Luigi for another screen. BYU seemed to have found Oregon State's achilles heel as the play would go for a 37 yard gain. Though the Beaver defense stiffened in the red zone, and BYU settled for a 25-yard field goal. It would be 14-10 OSU at halftime.

The Beavers had seemingly dominated the first half but it was anybody's game heading into the 3rd quarter. Oregon State opened the half with another long methodical drive that was finished off with Katz gunning it to WR Markus Wheaton on a 16-yard slant over the middle for a touchdown. 21-10 OSU.

BYU responded with a decent drive as QB Jake Heaps led the Cougars into OSU territory, but OSU DT Kevin Frahm came up with a clutch sack on 3rd down to force BYU to punt the ball back to the Beavers. But the Beavers were unable to do anything with the football either, and had to punt it back to the Cougars. However, on the ensuing possession, Heaps threw a pass along the left sideline which OSU CB Jordan Poyer intercepted, and took it all the way down the sideline for a pick-six. 28-10 OSU.

Oregon State was now in control and Beaver defense forced another BYU punt. The Beavers took over, and used HB Jordan Jenkins who was running behind an offensive line that was dominating the line of scrimmage to get Oregon State in position to attempt a 48-yard field goal. The attempt was clanked off the left upright.

The Cougars then found some life in their offense, and Heaps would hit TE Devin Mahina for a 6-yard touchdown. BYU would then go for two but a Heaps pass into the end zone was broken up. 28-16 OSU.

BYU would not give up as they attempted an onside kick which they nearly recovered in the scrum, but the Beavers recovered. Not long after, HB Jordan Jenkins ran behind some great blocking to bust through a hole for a 19-yard touchdown scamper to put this game away for the Beavers. 35-16 OSU.
