    Franklin shreds Broncos
In the 2012 Fiesta Bowl #3 Missouri narrowly edged the #11 Boise State Broncos 41-38 in overtime behind James Franklin and his 287 yards passing.

In the 2012 season opener #11 Boise State defeated #18 Missourri 56-44 despite Franklin throwing for 349 yards.

In 2013 James Franklin set the tone, his senior year will be his finest.

Boise State took control on the opening drive, with Southwich connecting with T Ware for a 49 yard TD to take a 7-0 lead.

    T-Ware catches a beautiful 49yard TD Pass

Franklin started the game off with a 78-yard 9 play drive to tie the game at 7-7. A sack and a forced fumble later and the Tigers took a 14-7 lead, and started cruising.

Franklin repeatedly hit receivers on short routes and long alike, going into halftime with a 28-14 lead and 305 yards passing.

Harris intercepts Southwick late in the 2nd quarter

The Broncos never seem to give up though, and battled back to make it 42-28 with a quarter left to go.

The Tiger defense never let up in the fourth, and C. Browning picked off Southwick to end their last threatening drive, and the Tigers ran the clock out for a 49-28 victory.

    C. Browning catches a key INT late in the game

The victory keeps the Tigers at #1 in the country, and also moves them to 2-1 against Boise State. A rematch is always possible, but everyone is now eying the most probable #1 vs #2 match in Michigan vs Missouri.

    Franklin finished 39/56 for 513 yards and 4 TD's.

Tigers idle, #2 Michigan on the road
Next week #2 Michigan (2-0) hosts #1 Missouri, if they can defeat Connecticut (2-0). If so it will be the first time since the SEC Championship in 2008 that #1 played #2 in the regular season.

        #4 Oregon (2-0) travels to face #16 Stanford (2-0)

September 24th, 1955 #4 Michigan hosted the Missouri Tigers for the first time and beat them down 42-7.

The Tigers traveled to Ann Arbor again in 1959 and beat the Wolverines 20-15.

The series is tied at 2-2, with the last game being won by the #13 Wolverines 31-7 over the #5 Tigers on October 4th, 1975.

This is the first time the two teams have met in 38 years, and the first meeting they are both ranked top 5. The winner of this game has the road to the national championship paved, if they win out.

Missouri is the heavy favorites, their shutdown defense should take care of Michigan's decent receiving corps. The question is, does Missouri win by 7 or 14?

            #1 Tigers roll #2 Michigan 38-7
(AP): It was called the game of the century. It was heavily hyped for nearly the entire pre-season and called the game that either Michigan or Missouri would use as their top reason to be in the national championship game.

The last time #1 met #2 in the regular season was 2006 when #2 Michigan met #1 Ohio State in the last game of the regular season.
Seven years later the #1 Missouri Tigers went to Ann Arbor to take on the #2 Michigan Wolverines.

Despite the fact most people thought it would be close, and Michigan would have a chance until late, this game was over by halftime.

The Wolverines struck first when Devin Gardner connected with Ricardo Miller for a 17yard TD strike to take a 7-0 lead early in the first quarter after a 12 play 79 yard drive.

The Tigers responded with James Franklin scrambling 9 yards to tie the game at 7 apiece. The Tiger defense locked it down, the Wolverines gained only 19 yards in the second quarter and the Tigers kept rolling as Franklin went into halftime with 203 yards passing and 2 TD's, and 68 rushing yards with a TD as the Tigers held a 31-7 lead at the half.

C-Browning intercepted Gardner to start the 3rd quarter and returned it 57 yards for a TD and a 38-7 lead, and the second string came in. The Tigers second string held the line, and the Tigers finished the game with 317 yards passing, 179 yards rushing, and holding the Wolverines to merely 79 yards rushing and 93 yards passing.

            Missouri POTG:
            J. Franklin 16/21 for 203 yards and 2 TD's, 68 rushing yards on 7 attempts with 1 TD.
            C-Browning: 7 tackles, 2 INT, 1 defensive TD

Re: When the Defense Roars: Missouri Tigers Dynasty

              #1 Missouri vs Texas (1-2)
In 2007 when the Missouri Tigers defeated the #2 Kansas Jayhawks it marked the end of a drought that had lasted 47 years. That drought was being the #1 team in the nation.
Six years later the Tigers are not only #1, they are the best team in the nation. After soundly defeating #2 Michigan the Tigers will take on unranked Texas.

Not much needs to be said about the Tigers. They are a one dimensional team with a pass-first spread offense and a killer rush defense. Their secondary is solid but not great, and their rushing game is similar. However, no other team in the nation is as solidly put together as the Tigers are.

Texas is a solid team, filled with 4 and 5 star recruits. They suffered two hard setbacks this year, a 36-26 loss to BYU where they led until late in the 4th quarter, and a 24-22 los to Baylor two weeks ago on a last second field goal.

For Missouri this is their “break week”, with #15 Oklahoma State and #13 Oklahoma and #30 Baylor coming up next. TTU and Iowa State are the only teams besides Texas that Missouri has left on their schedules with losing records. Missouri is a 2 TD favorite; however, Texas is loaded with talent and don't forget how the talent loaded and underrated Texas team in 2010 defeated the undefeated and national championship hopeful Nebraska Cornhuskers.

              Other big games:
              Vanderbilt (2-1) at #3 Auburn (5-0)
              #25 South Carolina (2-2) at #17 Ole Miss (4-0)
              #18 Michigan State (5-0) at #4 Iowa (4-0)
              Maryland (4-0) at #5 Virginia Tech (3-0)
              Kansas State (3-0) at #13 Oklahoma (3-0)

                Rock done at MU?
The rumor is that due to Johnny Rock's success as DC for the Missouri Tigers he will be heading to greener pastures as a HC. Gary Pinkel is not leaving Missouri any time soon for another program, and with all the recent success he most likely will not be fired unless a scandal breaks out.

The question is, will Johnny Rock be okay being second in command again for another contract? Or will he leave for greener pastures?

Talented Texas almost upsets #1 Missouri
For 3 quarters the Texas Longhorns played traditional Texas football, powerful defense and a swarming defense. The talented Missouri Tigers were on their heels, falling behind 3-0 after one quarter and down 10-0 at the half.
James Franklin left the game after a concussion in the second quarter, and slowly but surely the Missouri faithful lost hope in their #1 Tigers.

                  L. Harris forces and recovers a fumble for the Tigers while down 3-0

The Missouri offense was negated, they had no hope passing the ball, and then Henry Josey went down with bruised ribs in the third quarter. The Tigers brought in true freshman David Steele who put the Tigers on his back and rushed for a 7 yard TD to cap a 83 yard 12 play drive to make it a 10-7 game with 2:17 left in the game.

The Tigers defense held again, and the Longhorns punted the ball with 1:19 left in the game. The Tigers had one timeout and 67 yards to go. The Tigers passing attack got them close, but couldn’t punch it in so with 0:07 left in the game C O’Connor tied the game with a 42 yard field goal.
In overtime, the first overtime game for Missouri since the 2011 Fiesta Bowl against Boise State, the defenses were just as solid as in the first quarter. Both teams attempted long field goals, and both teams made them, to send it to a second overtime tied at 13-13.
The second overtime was a battle of running backs as Texas drove 25 yards and took a 20-13 lead. Missouri responded instantly with a single 25 yard rush by Steele and O’Connor kicked the PAT to tie the game at 20-20 for a third overtime.
The third overtime ended in a defensive draw as Texas blocked Missouri's 42 yard attempt. Missouri sighed in relief when Texas kicker William Russ missed his 27 yard attempt to the right.

At the start of the fourth overtime J. Vincent intercepted Case McCoy in stop a promising Texas drive. Missouri scored on a 18 yard kick by C O'Connor to take a 23-20 victory. It was hard fought, but the Tigers remained undefeated.

                  J. Vincent stops Texas's final drive in the 4th OT

Missouri finished with 137 yards rushing, 108 of them by Steele who won POTG.
Texas managed 180 passing yards and 141 yards rushing.

Missouri/Texas 4OT was a classic, but it cost the Tigers
It is a game that will go down in history, a 23-20 4OT battle that went the way of the #1 Missouri Tigers as they staved off the upset craving 1-2 Texas Longhorns.

Unfortunately for the Tigers their close victory and showing signs of weakness cost them as #2 Oregon rolled Colorado State University 41-10 and took the top spot in the Coaches poll. Meanwhile #3 Auburn moved up also, leaping the Tigers thanks to a 44-14 beat down of Vanderbilt.

The Harris poll did not quite agree, as the Auburn Tigers leaped from #3 to #1, and the Missouri Tigers slipped to #2 (1597 points to 1579).
Penn State went from #2 to #3, and Oregon stayed solid at #4.

In the anticipated games from the past week:
                    #3 Auburn 44 rolled Vanderbilt 44-10

#25 South Carolina defeated #17 Ole Miss 31-27

#18 Michigan State 33 sacked J. Rudock for a safety with 11 seconds for a 33-31 victory over #4 Iowa. Michigan State led 30-0 at the half.

Maryland stayed undefeated with a 36-22 victory over Virginia Tech

Missouri Tigers off week pays off
Two bye weeks in a row seemed a mistake in scheduling, but now that James Franklin is recovering most people can appreciate it for the Tigers.

                      Important results
#13 Boise State defeated previously undefeated Fresno State 45-14
                      undefeated UCLA defeated Stanford 17-14

The top 10 remained fairly the same. Oregon, Auburn, Missouri, and Penn State were 1-4. TCU was a close 5th, followed by Wisconsin, Kansas, Michigan State, Michigan, and Illinois.

For the first time in 2 years, Oklahoma State faces Missouri without national title hopes. Ranked #17, and playing at Missouri, Oklahoma State is merely going for the Big XII title, which they will win if they win all their remaining conference games.

#3 Missouri is looking for a statement game, a victory which will get them their #1 spot back. Losing the #1 spot thanks to a rough 4 OT game did not sit well with the Tigers, and this being their first game back it favors them heavily.

Look for a 44-14 victory by the Tigers.

                            Missouri press conference
At a recent press conference, DC Johnny Rock had the following to say: "That Texas game was INSANE. I've never seen both our starting QB & HB get removed, and I was nervous when the offense couldn't score. Steele is a beast of a RB, hard to believe he is only a freshman! It's too bad his speed is suspect, any of our LB's could chase him down easily. I wouldn't want to plan for him though, he's like a Jerome Bettis 2.0.
However, it's a great season so far! #3 again is disappointing, I cannot believe that 4OT game against a great rival that always brings it cost us the #1 spot. However, with the Kansas & Oklahoma State games still left I believe we can slip back to #1 or #2, and finally get our BCS National championship shot."

#3 Tigers duel with #17 Cowboys
The Missouri Tigers and the Oklahoma State Cowboys went to war Saturday, and it was definitely not what anyone expected. The trend of Missouri not struggling with ranked teams was broken, as the Cowboys brought their A-Game to Columbia.

The first quarter was a strong defensive battle, as the Cowboys defense contained the Tigers who were once again without Franklin and Josey.

The Tigers finally got on the board, but not traditionally, as Brayden Burnett punched through the Oklahoma State offensive line and sacked J. Deaton for a safety to give MU a 2-0 lead.

Oklahoma State responded in kind, starting a deep long drive starting at their own 11 and ending in the Tigers endzone for a 7-2 lead at halftime.

The Tigers struggled until finally they got a break, in the 3rd quarter, when T. Bolden picked off J. Deaton. He returned the interception 20 yards, and then Missouri punched it into the endzone on David Steele's 8 yard rush to give the Tigers a 9-7 lead.

The Cowboys offense faltered the entire fourth quarter, and the Tigers were unable to score but went on 3 long 60+ yard drives to eat all the clock up in the fourth quarter.

David Steele was named POTG with 21 carries, 165 yards, and 1 TD

Tigers slip to #4 in all polls
Back in August everyone was talking about how the Missouri Tigers controlled their own destiny. If they went 12-0 nobody could keep them from the national championship.
It's October 20th, just two months later, and the Tigers fell another spot in the major polls, to be sitting #4. There are six undefeated teams in college football right now. Oregon (7-0), Auburn (8-0), Michigan State (9-0), Missouri (6-0), Kansas (6-0), and Arkansas State (6-0). Missouri only has has two ranked opponents left, #16 Oklahoma next week, and #5 Kansas at the end of the year. If two of the two three go undefeated Missouri will once again be on the outside looking in most likely.
