For the first time in many years the Missouri Tigers are huge favorites against Oklahoma. The Tigers have won three straight (2010, 2011, 2012), all of them huge victories. The Tigers will be returning James Franklin this week, which means the Sooners defense had better be ready for him.

The Tigers are favored by 17, and everyone will be there for the blackout game considering the Tigers have never beaten either major rival (Oklahoma, Nebraska) more than 3 years in a row and beating Oklahoma is never bad for the resume, even when the Sooners have a down year.

    #1 Auburn (8-0) hosts #23 LSU (4-3)

      #4 Tigers roll Sooners 42-0
For all the bad things that seem to be happening to the Tigers off the field, the on field performance is starting to become a thing of beauty. The #16 Oklahoma Sooners seemed poised for a spoiler role, and they gave Missouri everything they had for a single quarter.

James Franklin was sacked hard on the opening drive for the Tigers, and was picked off twice as Oklahoma's hard nosed defense stood the test and forced a 0-0 tie going into the second quarter.

Franklin was brought down hard three times in the first half

Missouri went back to their recent success, the amazing David Steele, who started carrying the Tigers. His longest run of the second quarter was a 12 yarder that put the Tigers at 1st and goal from the 6, and they punched it in on a pass from Franklin to Steele to take a 14-0 lead.

The Tiger defense did what it always does, and took care of business, sacking R. Flowers twice in the second quarter as the Tigers didn't allow a first down the entire first three quarters.

      R. Flowers experienced that hailed Tiger D

As the third quarter was expiring C Browning picked off R. Flowers and Franklin punched it in with a 27yard scramble and the Tigers took a 35-0 lead and substituted in the entire second and third strings.

Browning finished the day with 1 INT and a FF

The Tigers finished the day with 371 yards of offense, 186 of them on the ground. Steele finished with 24 rushes for 126 yards and 2 rushing TD, 5 catches for 77 yards and 1 TD. James Franklin finished with 161 yards and 1 passing TD, 2 carries for 29 yards and 1 TD.

The Tigers defense finished with 5 sacks, 2 INT, 2 FF, and allowed only 3 first downs, all of them in the fourth quarter. R. Flowers finished with 7 of 23 passing for 50 yards, but the Tigers allowed -30 yards rushing, so the Sooners offense technically only had 20 yards.

In other news #1 Auburn lost to #23 LSU 25-21.

Tigers back to #3, Ducks #1
When the Auburn Tigers fell to the LSU Tigers there was a huge joy inside most Missouri Tigers hearts. The Missouri Tigers just need one more undefeated team to fall, either #1 Oregon or #2 Michigan State in order to reach their first ever BCS National Championship game.

The #1 Oregon Ducks have a hard road in front of them, and so does #2 Michigan State. In order for Michigan State to run the table they have to defeat Wisconsin and then either Illinois or Penn State in the BIG championship game.

Missouri doesn't have an easy road either, they face Baylor next week and then have Iowa State, Kansas State, undefeated #3 Kansas, and Texas Tech left.
Iowa State and Texas Tech are gimme games, Texas Tech is #120 in both defensive categories and only #47 in offensive passing yards, #119 in rushing yards.

Baylor looks to be a solid squad at 4-3 but they are a year or two short of giving the Tigers a real challenge. Kansas State is a solid squad with a good core group that might pose a challenge but their rush defense is weak and Steele should exploit them. No, the real marquee game left for MU is the Border War with Kansas. If both teams run the table, that games might provide the spark to put one of them in the BCS Championship game.
However, at this point everyone knows if Oregon and Michigan State win out it will be a rematch of the 2012 BCS National Championship where Oregon defeated Michigan State 40-37 in OT.

The great conference shuffle of 2015?
We thought it was over with. Conference shuffling is a huge pain to bear as a fan, even more so when it's about dollars and cents and not about rivalries and fan experience. Due to contracts and rules and buyouts most shuffling won't occur until 2015 based upon rumors.

The SEC struck back towards the Big XII for plucking Arkansas and went after Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Texas. The rumor who #16 will be is large, but apparently if they go for someone it will not be Clemson again. Most likely targets are Florida State, Miami, or West Virginia.

The Pac-12 apparently also re-extended invites towards Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State.

The ACC has apparently invited and gotten commits from Pittsburg and Syracuse to the join the ACC in 2015. These are still rumors however.

The Big XII did not sit idly by, as after the Pac-12 has repeatedly tried to poach their teams extended offers to Arizona and Arizona State to join the Big XII and recreate the North and South divisions.

All the paperwork is in the process, and there are tons of rumors, but it looks like 2015 will look like this.

ACC: adding Syracuse and Pittsburg makes them the first ever super-16 conference

Big East: looks to lose SMU and TCU if the Pac-12 steals Texas, TTU, OU, and Okie State. They are currently trying to add any C-USA school, Temple, Army, Navy, and Air Force. Also BYU has an offer.

Big XII: looks to add Arizona and Arizona State if Texas and company stay, or adding AU/ASU/TCU/SMU/BYU/Air Force if Texas & Co. leave.

Big 10: They are apparently inviting UConn as their 14th member, although Rutgers and Army have also been floated as possibilities.

MWC: According to sources they are looking to add teams from the Big XII if that conference falls apart but otherwise are currently happy with their membership. If they lose Air Force they are apparently inviting BYU and possible C-USA members, or North Texas from the Sun Belt.

Pac-12: They again want to add Texas & Co. They could possibly lose AU/ASU, especially if they make the leap to 16, as AU/ASU have been consistently against going to 16 members.

SEC: Wants to add OU/OSU/UT/ and someone else to get to 16 members also.

This game is Missouri's chance for a break, but more importantly it is a must win game. Missouri controls their destiny for a third-straight BCS bid, and once again an outside shot at the national championship.
Missouri, Kansas, Oregon, and Michigan State all are undefeated, and if Oregon or Michigan State lose then the replacement would be an undefeated Missouri/Kansas team.

The Bears should put a decent fight for a quarter or two, but Missouri should roll right past them towards the showdown with the Jayhawks

Missouri Tigers schedule 2014 opener with Alabama

The Missouri Tigers have taken another step towards cementing themselves as an upper power. They will kick off the 2014 season by playing the Alabama Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. There is no return game scheduled. The record between the two schools is 2-1 in favor of Missouri. They won the first matchup in 1968 when they beat Alabama 35-10 in the Gator Bowl.
In 1975 the Missouri Tigers shocked the world by defeated #2 Alabama 20-7 in Birmingham, Alabama. Alabama finished 11-1 and #3 in the AP that year, while Missouri finished 6-5.

In 1978, the Alabama Crimson Tide smoked then #11 Missouri 38-20 enroute to their national championship. Missouri finished 8-4, and that was also the last time the Missouri Tigers defeated the Nebraska Cornhuskers until 2003.

                Missouri adds Wisconsin for 2015/2016

Missouri added the Wisconsin Badgers from the Big 10 to their non-conference football schedule for 2015 and 2016. The Tigers will host the Badgers in 2015 and return to Camp Randall Stadium in 2016.

The overall record between these two teams is 1-4, with Wisconsin taking the last two games by a combined 2 points, a 35-34 victory in 1984 at Columbia and a 21-20 victory in Camp Randall Stadium in 1983.

Missouri won the 1975 contest 27-21 in Columbia, dropped the 1973 contest 59-20 at Madison, and dropped the first game played between the two squads 17-9 back in 1942 in Madison.

Missouri AD Michael Alden: "It's important we get back to our roots. College football is historically about rivals, about territory, about being the best. Wisconsin is a great program, one that doesn't always get the respect they deserve. In 2010, 2006, 1998, and 1993 they were not regarded as the best team in the Big 10 despite having a great record. We are often in the same boat, always overlooked for traditional powerhouses in our conference.
We hope this series helps determine the national champion in 2015 and 2016, and look to continue it down the road."

Sources suggest Missouri is also trying to schedule Nebraska and Illinois for future games, to rekindle rivalries that have recently ended. If those attempts fail look for Missouri to refuse to play those teams again, as they are trying to create an extremely difficult and exciting schedule each season if they cannot have historically passionate and significant games.

                  #3 Tigers defeat Baylor
The second the ball was snapped until halftime it was a great Big XII game, as the Baylor Bears brought an answer to everything the Missouri Tigers had, except David Steele.
Steele caught 2 passes for touchdowns and ran for another as the Tigers took a 21-10 lead into the half. The Baylor Bears shut down the Tigers offensively in the second half, and out gained the Tigers through the air and even converted more first downs. Unfortunately the Bears could not convert when most needed, and the game ended for the Bears when D. Washington picked up a fumble in the end zone to stop a 16 play 81 yard drive in the third quarter. C. Browning intercepted the Bears 3rd string QB late in the fourth quarter on the four yard line to stop another promising drive, and the Tigers won a closer than it looks 21-10 game.

Re: When the Defense Roars: Missouri Tigers Dynasty

Big XII leads conference shift, back to 12
The Big XII, after losing 3 members in 2010 and 2011 finally struck back last year taking Arkansas away from the SEC. They struck again, taking Arizona and Arizona State from the Pacific 12 conference. The reason stated by the universities was that an opportunity for better athletic and academic growth for the students was available. In reality a new revenue deal is on the horizon for the Big XII, and the Pac-12 still has not gotten their television network up and running, which has the Pac-12 teams making over 6-million dollars a year less than the Big XII is projecting for 2014. AU and ASU will join the Big XII on June 1st, 2014. The Pac-12 invited BYU and TCU for the 2014 season. Both will join for the 2014 season, becoming full members June 1st, 2014.

This puts the Big XII back at 12 members. Instead of going the old traditional route of two divisions, they are doing a two division four pod split. Each pod will consist of three teams.

There is a pod that will always be in the South Division, a pod that will always be in the north division, and two rotating divisions.
The setup is designed to allow rivalries to continue, as certain rivalries were labeled protected and will always occur despite the participants not being in the same pods.

Arkansas will always play Texas and Arizona State
Arizona will always play Arizona State and Iowa State
Arizona State will always play Arizona and Arkansas
Baylor will always play Texas Tech and Oklahoma State
Iowa State will always play Arizona and State State
Kansas will always play Missouri and Texas Tech
Kansas State will always play Iowa State and Texas
Missouri will always play Kansas and Oklahoma
Oklahoma will always play Missouri and Oklahoma State
Oklahoma State will always play Oklahoma and Baylor
Texas will always play Kansas State and Arkansas
Texas Tech will always play Baylor and Kansas
                      Division makeup
Permanently South Baylor, Arizona, Oklahoma State
South on even years Kansas, Kansas State, Arizona State
North on even years Oklahoma, Texas Tech, Texas
Permanently North Missouri, Iowa State, Arkansas

This pod nature could possibly leave some schools without facing each other for years, there is no guarantee Baylor will ever play Arkansas unless they face in the conference championship.

Most of the coaches and athletic departments seem highly thrilled about the pod play as it allows teams to encounter different opponents every season, and won't lead to the same five match-ups every year that plagues all 12 team conferences right now. This is not a problem where rivalries exist, but some games fans to not want to see year in and year out

                      Other conference alignment
The Big 10 added Rutgers to the Leaders Division to make 14 team even splits.
The Big East, unable to get other commits, added Temple back from the MAC.
                      Nobody else made any movements.

This game, a road trip to Ames Iowa for the Missouri Tigers, is the perfect trap game. Unfortunately for ISU they have no offense to speak of, so most likely it will be a huge game for the Missouri Tigers as they should move to 9-0 and heading straight towards their matchup with undefeated #4 Kansas on November 23rd, 2013.

This is the start of 3 straight road games for the Tigers, so the coaching staff is hoping to get their starters off the field early.

Missouri took control of the game, holding the ISU offense to negative 7 yards rushing and 209 yards passing. Iowa State did a good job with Missouri's running game also, holding David Steele to 79 yards rushing on 19 attempts and just 1 TD.

Tigers remain #3, Illinois almost leaps to #4

The #5 Illinois football team whooped the #7 Wisconsin Badgers, moving to first play in the Leaders division with only a loss to Penn State on their record.
As long as Illinois does not lose to Iowa at the end of the season they will finish in the Big 10 title game, and if they get lucky could have a shot at the national championship waiting for them. Illinois leaped Kansas in the Harris poll, but remained behind in the Coaches poll, which allowed Kansas to keep their #4 BCS spot.

Big week in terms of BCS National Championship talk

#3 Missouri travels to Manhattan Kansas to take on the underrated Wildcats who are overlooked despite giving every opponent except Arkansas trouble this year.

#1 Michigan State travels to Madision to take advantage of the reeling #10 Badgers.

#15 USF takes on #25 Rutgers

Kansas State does have the #17 defense in the nation and the #29 offense, but most do not expect them to defeat #3 Missouri.
The Tigers are 8 point favorites, which is curious given Missouri has been toasting competition more often that not lately.

#3 Tigers remain undefeated, lose Franklin in tight game

The #3 Missouri Tigers walked into Manhattan with some pride in themselves. After all they had fourth ranked Kansas waiting in the wings for next week. A huge change to become the #2 team in the BCS, and definitely trying to make amends for letting the BCS national championship game slip through their hands in 2007.

The Kansas State Wildcats used their distracted state to take it to them early through the air, taking a quick 7-0 lead on their opening drive.

The Tigers could not stop J. Tuggle's quick passes, as he opened up with 15 straight completed passes and a 21-7 lead. The Tigers thought their season was going up in smoke when it got even darker. KSU P. Anderson broke free and sacked James Franklin, and Frankling went down in pain.

                                E. Torres stepped in, and the Tiger faithful were unsure if he could lead them out of their deficit, afterall the WIldcat defense looked sure to bring their wrath upon this relatively untested youth. Torres started guiding the Tigers down the field, and the 21-7 deficit soon turned into a 24-21 lead after nearly three quarters.

                                C. Jones helped out, intercepting Tuggle and returning the ball 31 yards for a TD, making it 31-21.

                                C. Jones returned his interception 31 yards to give the Tigers a 10 point lead

                                E. Torres led the Tigers on another drive, making it 38-21 with just over three minutes left, and it appeared the Tigers would meet #4 Kansas for the Big XII Title next week.

KSU refused to go quietly, and stormed back, making it a 38-35 game thanks to two quick J. Tuggle to J. Cathey touchdown connections.

KSU kicked onsides, and got the kick and looked to move down the field with very little time left.

The Tiger defense held, and on a desperation attempt on 4th and 13, J. Tuggle tossed it to T. Lockett who moved the ball but got caught and taken down just shy of the 1st down marker. The play was reviewed and the Tigers took over and downed it to end the game 38-35, and keep their undefeated season alive.
