    Week 8 preview

The newly expanded Big 10 is demanding attention with their current lineup of 4 undefeated squads. This weekend is the start of what could be a great ending burst of undefeated matchups.
    #5 Michigan State (6-0) is hosting #4 Wisconsin (6-0)
undefeated Illinois (6-0) will be playing rival Purdue
#11 Penn State (7-0) will be playing at Northwestern

Only Michigan State is undefeated in the Legends division of the Big 10 while #11 Penn State (7-0), #4 Wisconsin (6-0), and #18 Illinois (6-0) are all undefeated in the Leaders division.

Games to watch in week 8
    #6 Oklahoma State (6-0) at #12 Missouri (6-0)
    #4 Wisconsin (6-0) at #5 Michigan State (6-0)
    #3 Auburn (7-0) at #14 LSU (5-2)

    #6 Oklahoma State Cowboys
    (6-0, 3-0 Away)
    #12 Missouri Tigers
    (6-0, 3-0 Home)
    Game Notes
The last time the Missouri Tigers hosted the Oklahoma State Cowboys was in 2008. The Tigers were 5-0 and #2 in the nation but fell to the 5-0 Cowboys by the score of 28-23. That was a rough year for the Cowboys, as they were a great team but it was the year Texas and Oklahoma and Texas Tech all went 11-1 in the Big XII south and all had legit claims for being the representative of the conference to go to the BCS.

The Tigers have not defeated the Cowboys since 2005 when they invaded Stillwater and walked away with a 38-31 victory.
With both teams controlling their own destiny and the Cowboys featuring a high octane passing attack, which is the Tigers weakness this season on defense, this game looks to be a high scoring contest.

Tigers shut down Cowboys, control Big XII

The #6 Oklahoma State Cowboys went into their game with the #12 Missouri Tigers controlling their own destiny. Their only tough game ahead after the Tigers was the Oklahoma Sooners, besides that the schedule was Baylor, Texas Tech, Kansas State, and Iowa State.

Unfortunately for the Cowboys, the Tigers had revenge on their minds. Or possibly it was just fate that the Cowboys chance at a national championship and outright Big XII title was taken away by the team they stole that from in 2009.

The game started with a fumble by Brandon Weeden. The Tigers offense could not capitalize so G. Ressel nailed a 39 yard field goal to put the Tigers up 3-0. The defenses would duke it out through the first half until late in the 2nd quarter K. Jackson intercepted Weeden and returned it for 22 yards, setting up the Tigers. James Franklin tossed TJ Moe a 4 yard TD pass, and the Tigers had a 10-0 lead at the half.

The third quarter was tight with no points or real offense to talk about, but in the 4th quarter the Tigers pulled away with another Ressel FG and Marcus Murphy grabbing an 8 yard catch for a TD.

          Game Notes
The last time the Texas A&M Aggies defeated the Missouri Tigers was in 2006 at College Station where they defeated the Tigers 25-19.

2011 was supposed to be the Aggies year as they started off the season ranked in the top 10 in the nation but after losing twice so far they need help to just win the Big XII let alone contend for the national championship, but knocking off the #6 Tigers would be a feather in their cap for bragging rights alone.

Their running game is top 10 in the nation, and their passing attack is top 25. Unfortunately the Tigers rush defense is #1 in the nation, but their palty #112 passing defense provides an opportunity for the Aggies. It should be a great game at College Station.

Re: When the Defense Roars: Missouri Tigers Dynasty

College Station Rocked, Missouri Tigers remain undefeated

The #6 Missouri Tigers improved to 8-0 on the season, but it was not easy. In a defensive battle the Missouri Tigers took 3-0 lead after G. Ressel nailed a 37 yard field goal with 3:36 left in the first quarter. The Aggies tried to respond in kind but their 45 yard field goal attempt bounced off the bottom bar back onto the field for a heart breaking miss.

The second quarter was more of the same, as neither offense really got going. The Aggies offense finally put together a 93 yard 13 play drive to knock on the door with 1:47 left on 3rd and goal from the 2, but the Tiger defense held and blocked the field goal to retain their 3-0 lead.

James Franklin and Wes Kemp hooked up twice on the ensuring drive, and Ressel nailed a 35 yard field goal as the clock expired to put the Tigers up 6-0 at the half.

The 3rd quarter was the same story, and the Aggies kept moving the ball but the Tigers kept shutting them down when it mattered the most, and the Aggies went for a 50 yard field goal late in the 3rd but missed it short which was to be expected after the 45 yard bottom bar hit earlier in the day.

James Franklin scrambled 4 yards to put the Tigers up 12-0 with 5:06 left in the fourth quarter and then the Tigers went for and got the 2-point conversion to hold a commanding 14-0 lead based on how the defensive battle was going.

            U. Nwachukwa got the Aggies on the board with a 50 yard catch from R. Tannehill to make it a 14-7 game. The Tigers responded with DeVion Moore who capped off a 53-yard drive with a 1 yard scramble for the TD and a 21-7 lead.

The Aggies were not done, and with 0:42 left K. Swope caught a beautiful 13 yard pass to make it 21-14. On the onside kick attempt the Aggies recovered, and College Station went nuts as the Aggies were about to tie the game.

Unfortunately for the Aggies K. Edwards who had been relatively quiet all day stepped up big and intercepted R. Tannehill to end the Aggies drive and James Franklin simply kneeled down to end the game and the Aggies bid for an upset as the Tigers prevailed 21-14.

Very true. I am hoping Wisconsin takes down Penn State, because otherwise it's Big Ten vs Big Ten and Pac 12 vs Pac 12 for the top spots. I am a little worried about Kansas, they have been putting up great passing yards this year (averaging nearly 300 a game).

The Baylor Bears (4-3) feature a decent passing attack this year, but after Missouri's performance against the Aggies last week the smart money is on the Tigers who control the Big XII and potentially their own destiny as National Champions.

The last time the Tigers went to Waco they squeaked past the Bears 31-28 in 2008. However, they are looking for some revenge for their 40-32 loss to the Bears in 2009.

Look for that famed Tiger defense to come up big and hold the Bears as the Tigers are tired of being the only team in the Big XII with a sub #90 passing defense.

                          Tigers obliterate the Bears

The Missouri Tigers walked into Waco ready for war. And for one quarter they got it, as the Baylor Bears held strong and only allowed Missouri a 53 yard FG with 23 seconds left in the first quarter. As soon as the first was over the Bears wilted, and a 10 yard option to Wide Reciever Wes Kemp put Missouri up 10-0.
The Tigers nailed a 28 yard field goal to take a 13-0 lead into the half, and while score wise it was still anyone's game anyone that was watching knew Missouri was winning this game. The Bears defense barely made stops, and it was only long time consuming drives by the Tigers that kept it from being 27-0 at the half.

The Missouri Tigers defense deserves a lot of the credit, as Jacquies Smith tied the NCAA record with 6 sacks on the day. The Bears managed only 6 first downs on the day.

A familiar sight: K. Edwards nailing another interception

Missouri scored on the ground three times, with Henry Josey, DeVion Moore, and Wes Kemp all scrambling for TDs.

Week 11 Preview: Put up or shut up weekend

#1 Oregon (9-0) is going to #2 Stanford (9-0) in a game that most believe will determine one half of the national championship game

#3 Michigan State (9-0) travels to Iowa (7-2) to try and lock down the Legends Division

#7 TCU (9-0) travels to #17 Boise State (6-2) to try and get revenge for their last loss, and also pretty much guarantee a perfect record for 2011. Kellen Moore will most likely be back for the Broncos though as he is currently Questionable.

Michigan (7-2) travels to #11 Illinois (7-1) to try and get into contention for the Legends Division incase Michigan State collapses down the home stretch.

#21 Texas (6-2) goes to #6 Missouri (9-0) to try and play spoiler much like they did to Nebraska back in 2010.

                              Game Notes
In 2009 the Missouri Tigers hosted the undefeated and #3 Texas Longhorns who routed them 41-7 enroute to a BCS National Championship Game.

In 2008 the #11 Tigers traveled to Texas and got beat down by the #1 Texas Longhorns as they traveled towards a Fiesta Bowl title.

In 2005 the Tigers hosted the #2 Texas Longhorns who destroyed them 51-20 enroute to winning the BCS National Championship.

This is the 4th meeting in a row where at least one team has a shot at going to the national championship. Texas is in the unusual role of spoiler, and will try to shut down James Franklin and get Garrett Gilbert going to take advantage of Missouri's weak secondary.

Texas Longhorns almost pull the upset

In a game filled with a lot of history, and the shoe on the other foot as the Texas Longhorns were trying to play spoiler against undefeated Missouri, the Texas Longhorns were one hit away from ending the Tigers perfect season.

MU struck first, opening up a 3-0 lead thanks to reliable G. Ressel's 21 yard field goal. The Horns responded in the second quarter thanks to Garrett Gilbert and his 68 yard TD pass to M. Davis, putting Texas up 7-3.

Missouri went 3 and out, and Gilbert wasted no time hitting M. Williams with a 50 yard TD pass, giving UT a 14-3 lead. Missouri responded with a 31 yard strike to R. Woodland to cut the game to 14-10. Garrett Gilbert drove Texas down to the 25, but when he went for a pass on 1st and 10 Will Ebner hit him hard on a blitz and ended Gilbert's game with a concussion. The loss of Gilbert as Texas's offensive leader showed immediately, as Texas struggled to get back into their rhythm.

                                M. Davis hauls in a catch that ends up being a 50 yard TD strike to give Texas a 14-3 lead

Missouri started a drive with 4:45 left in the third and D. Moore had an amazing 89 yard rush for a TD but it was called back due to offensive holding and went 3 and out.
Missouri got a decent drive going later in the third but choked and relied on G. Ressel to nail a 42 yard field goal to make it 14-13 with 2:04 left in the 3rd quarter. The Texas offense kept going 3 and out with Case McCoy not being able to get anything going.

McCoy snapped out of it and drove the Longhorns down to striking distance, and threw a perfect pass, only K. Jackson from Missouri got in the way and gobbled it up. Missouri went 3 and out again but they had stopped the Horns from gaining a larger lead that would have been almost impossible to overcome.

                                K. Edwards interception stops the Longhorn's attempt at a TD

The Tiger defense held, and with 2:45 left in the fourth quarter Z. Gooden made the biggest catch of his life, an interception deep in Texas territory to set up the Tiger offense with their best field position of all day. The offense faltered again but G. Ressel nailed a 25 yard chip shot to put the Tigers up 16-14, their first lead since the game was 3-0.

                                Z. Gooden nails an interception and returns it to give Missouri an easy scoring opportunity

Texas went 4 and out, and Missouri was running out the clock when D. Moore broke a 37 yard rush on third down to give Missouri a 23-14 lead with 21 seconds left.
                                C. McCoy was determined to not lose, and nailed D. Hales with a 81 yard TD strike with 0:02 left. Texas recovered the onside kick, but the final hail mary attempt fell incomplete as time ran out and Missouri prevailed 23-21 over Texas.

Missouri POTG: James Franklin went 24/41 with 294 yards and 1 TD
                                D. Moore had 14 rushes for 87 yards and 1 TD

Texas POTG: G. Gilbert went 9/13 for 138 yards and 2 TD
