            2013 - Patriots Pre-Season

            Wrap Up

Foxboro, MA - The 2013 Preseason for the Patriots is over and here is what we've seen so far:

            Quarterbacks

Ryan Mallett - Still the leading quarterback for the team. Only played 2 quarters in pre-season due to the back-up QB battle between Colt and Rookie Chad Sapozink. We expect Mallett to have a great year with less turnovers from last year.
Chad Sapozink - We don't know too much about Chad, except that for a low level rookie he was able to perform well on the field. He had the accuracy and didn't try to force too many balls. Should be a decent back-up but give him a year or two to develop into a solid #2

            Running Backs

Stevan Ridley - Stevan was able to show everyone he still had the ability to shine. He's not the flashiest runner, but is a grinder and will get you the yards if you get the ball in his hands. Not the best hands out of the backfield. We expect to see him carry the ball about 65% of the time.
Brandon Bolden - Brandon shared his potential with us last season by chewing up yards while Ridley was injured for a few weeks. He is a solid 2/3 back and will share carries with Shane Vereen. His strength is his power running and can get the yards when relied upon.
Shane Vereen - This guy just doesn't go away. Even with limited carries last year, it didn't discourage him. He showed his worth in preseason and will be sharing the carries with Bolden. They are both sharing 30% of the carries.
LaRod Stephens-Howling - Mr. 3rd down back. Knowing that the Patriots wouldn't be able to keep Danny Woodhead last year, LSH was groomed as his replacement. He will also take the lead on Kick Returns as well. LaRod will be the team's utility player this year.

            Wide Receivers

Wes Welker - Working on year one of his new contract, he is focusing on staying healthy this year. We expect a solid year from Wes and he should grab about 60 balls or so because of the talent at wide receiver this year.
Brandon Lloyd - Lloyd was hurt in the playoffs last year that might have cost them an early departure from the playoffs. He will be relied upon to provide long ball capabilities again this year. Hopefully he will pull down atleast 70 balls this year.
Bryant Ford - This is the Patriots #1 pick in 2013. He will be the wildcard in this offense this year. He may not get 40 catches, but will impact the team greatly with his solid hands. I don't expect a dropped ball this year.
Aaron Hernandez - Aaron has finally moved into the WR position. He just wasn't a tight end anymore and could do so much more. He is playing the slot this year and hoping to pick up 50 receptions. He will be explosive and clutch when the situation calls for it.
Dezmon Briscoe/Andrew Apo - These guys are your 5 wide receivers. Don't expect too many snaps and/or too many catches. These two made the team based on their hands and hands alone. If put into the game, we want them to pull the ball down and not have to worry about it.
Derrick Brailsford - Picked up in the draft this year, Derrick will only be used for his speed. His hands are terrible, but he can evade tackles and even break some himself. He is 2nd on the depth chart in Kick Return and is #1 in Punt Returns. I'm hoping to see a few long runbacks for him.

            Tight Ends

Rob Gronkowski - Gronk is Gronk. Don't know how else to explain it. As the wide receivers are sharing balls, Gronk is going to lead the team in touchdowns again this year. I would like to see more than 80 receptions this year and another Pro Bowl start.
Kip Wary - Picked up in the 2013 draft as a blocking tight end, but we realized that this kid can catch. He's looking like a clone of Gronkowski so far. I'm excited to see how the two tight end sets will look like when doing playaction. Can't wait....

            Defensive Lineman

Chandler Jones - Rookie of the year is returning this year. I expect to see around 10 sacks this year from the sophomore defensive end. He's quick and many lineman can't handle him.
Vince Wilfork - Just like Gronk, there's nothing to say about big Vince. His wife will be on the sidelines texting away as he clogs up the middle. He's got a solid #2 in veteran Casey Hampton. Hoping to see an improvement in the run stopping game.
Rob Ninkovich - Rob got some sacks last year to solidify him as the starter this year as well. With Shawne Merriman there as well, we might see Rob on the trading block as Shawne is equally as good.

            Linebackers

Mayo, Spikes, Hightower - The trio returns as they scare offenses with their quickness and awareness. All three are considered fearless tacklers and have great angles when pursuing the ball carrier. Their weakness is their coverage on tight ends. Hopefully we'll see that improved this year.
Justice Caine - Who ever thought that you could bring more talent to this linebacker corps? Justice Caine is the best Linebacker in the draft and the Patriots picked him up. He will be helping as a DE and Inside Linebacker this year as he gets his feet wet. Maybe we have 2 years in a row with the defensive rookie of the year?

            Secondary

Antoine Cason and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie -Cason and DRC are coming brand new into a system that let up a lot of catches last year. They are both established as #1 cornerbacks so I hope to see QBs be afraid to throw to the outside. Should share 10-12 INTs between the two of them.
Devin McCourty - He is a perfect fit for Strong Safety as his man coverage skills lacked and he couldn't stay with his receivers. Now as safety he can scout the field and fly towards the ball. The long ball up the middle will not be an option for other teams this year.
Steve Gregory - He's just solid all around. He will be teaching rookie, Leron Battles, the ropes. He is the veteran leadership in the secondary and will prove to be just as effective as last year.

                2013 - Preseason Final

Aarin Carroll Superstar - Entering his senior season, FAU WR Aarin Carroll is the clear favorite to go first in the draft.

Sign of Things to Come? - Michael Turner wants the rest of the NFL to know that he's not taking any snaps off this year. He put up 3 TD runs in a preseason win for the Falcons.

Preseason Prep for Opening Week - Jake Locker: "It's good to see us execute in some big spots. We just have to make sure that carries over into the season."

Ready to Rock - If this preseason game was any indication, it seems like Alfred Morris is ready to get the regular season underway. He racked up 2 TDs in the win.

@ToddMcShayEA - Aarin Carroll is Calvin Johnson, only faster. Seems impossible, doesn't it?
@RossTuckerEA - Fair to say that M. Turner looks like he's ready to roll. #preseason

Step #1 - Win At Home
Win over Cowboys but Spikes Injured
                        PATRIOTS 24 - Cowboys 14

Foxboro, MA - It's a good way to start. It seemed like all the kinks weren't out from preseason, but they got the job done. Chandler Jones didn't miss a beat, Stevan Ridley proved himself like he does every week, and Ryan Mallett was able to make it through.

It's tough to see Mallett continue to throws interceptions as this was the year in which he vowed to improve. But if we look at the other side of the ball, Mr. Tony Romo made Mallett look like a seasoned veterant. Romo couldn't even get over 200 yards today and it seemed like the Cowboys abandoned their run game which proved to be a force early on. I bet the injury to Mike Goodson is what did them in.

Speaking of injuries, we were hoping to get through the year with none but we were proven wrong. In the 4th quarter we saw MLB Brandon Spikes go down. He was involved in a helmet to helmet collision in a run and it looks like it's a head injury. We won't know until the medical staff lets us know the extent of the injury itself.

Miami comes into town next week and it's Tannehill under center again this year. I wonder what the 2013 Miami Dolphins have in store for us this year. If you remember, they had one of the worst records of 2012 and couldn't catch a break. Big matchup against a division rival, can't wait to see what happens.

Injury Interference - The Patriots know Brandon Spikes wants to be on that field, but they told him to get back to 100% before returning, which means at least a couple weeks of rest.
@MarkSchlerethEA - The NFL Season is a marathon so you just keep trying to get through the inuries. #Patriots

The Final Score is... - Every fan will have a much nicer ride home after watching their Patriots win 24-14.
@MattMillerEA - Patriots will be pleased to have that home win. #Patriots #Cowboys

                          2013 - Week #1

Tyrecous Lee Keeps Impressing - UCLA FS Tyrecous Lee is known as "The Honey Hawk" for his ability to make huge plays when the game is on the line.

Anticipated Return - For the Lions and Bucs, good news came early this week when they were told Jahvid Best and Josh Freeman would be able to return to the practice field this week.

On the Way Out? - Sources confirm that contract negotiations have failed between Greg Jones and the Jaguars after he rejected the team's current contract offer.

A New Deal - The Texans have decided to re-sign MLB Brian Cushing to a 6-year deal worth $48.0M. Vonta Leach was also re-signed by the Ravens, agreeing to a 5-year contract extension worth $20.0M/

Staying Put - The Rams made re-signing HB Steven Jackson a priority and succeeded: He's agreed to a 6-year contract worth $63.0M.

Reservation Point - Both the Bengals and Geno Atkins are at a stalemate as the two cannot agree on a new contract extension.

Extension in place for Jared Allen - Jared Allen has reportedly signed a 6-year contract extension with the Vikings that will pay him $66.0M.

Man Down - Jordan Grable really was caught in the wrong place at the wrong time this week, and now this injury will cost him his season.

MJD & Michael Turner Runs it in - M. Jones-Drew ran for 2 TDs during the Jaguars' 32-21 win over the Titans and Michael Turner does the same in the Falcons' 44-16 win over the Bears.

Off To A Good Start - The decision to hire Corey Jason as the new Saints head coach looks like a good one after this week's win.

Overtime was the Answer - Five quarters was just enough time for the Texans to win out at home 41-38.

                          See Who's Tweetin'
@RoFloEA - The G. Jones/Jaguars deal apparently didn't include a private catapult to fling him from game to game.
@mortreportEA - Star middle linebacker Brian Cushing re-signs with #Texans, per sources.
@MarkSchlerethEA - Love this re-signing by the Rams. They needed to keep their halfback core intact.
@SkipBaylessEA - Did the Bengals seriously think he was going to sign for less than top dollar? WAKE UP!
@mortreportEA - This just in: #Vikings get their man. Re-sign Jared Allen to be their starting RE.
@mortreportEA - Things were serious between Clay Matthews and #Packers, but the deal is off, per sources.
@ToddMcShayEA - Aarin Carroll is Calvin Johnson, only faster. Seems impossible, doesn't it?
@ScottWrightEA - The Honey Hawk swoops in again, awins the day against Texas. FS Tyrecous Lee is the real deal.
@RossTucker - It's always all hands on deck in the NFL so getting back Jahvid Best will help this week.
@AdamSchefterEA - Buccaneers updated their injury report. Folks should expect to see Josh Freeman this week.
@WingozEA - It's really no surprise to see Drew Brees crowned as the NFC offensive player of the week.
@SkipBaylessEA - Sorry but Ryan Fitzpatrick will not do this again once teams take notice. #AFCPoW
@RossTuckerEA - Every week somebody has to step up, D.J Campbell did that this week. #NFCPoW
@AdamSchefterEA - Maurice Jones-Drew rips off 2 TDs en route to Jaguars victory.
@RossTuckerEA - Had a chance to speak with Michael Vick, and he was excited about how the offense looked this week. #wellduh
@MattMillerEA - Corey Jason has notched his first win as coach of the Saints, and win two isn't far behind.
@RoFloEA - Fantasy owners, be sure to say thanks to Drew Brees -- or curse his name if you had to go H2H against him.
@AdamSchefterEA - Rams are already saying Jordan Grable will be placed on IR, ending his year. #breakingnews
@AdamSchefterEA - There will be a hole at right defensive end for the Rams. Grable placed on IR.
@MarkSchlerethEA - Got to see the highlights from the Bills game, what a day for Ryan Fitzpatrick.
@RossTuckerEA - An OT win really can feel like two wins, but the same goes for losing one.
@SkipBaylessEA - Look, at some point the defense should have stepped up and showed some pride in the secondary.

How was that for an update?! I got all of us to the regular season.....should be a good. How do you like my fairly new Around the League format?
