Re: Rebuilding the Fear - Oakland Raiders M13 CCM
Agree mostly with braeden, just different order.
I think
Carr
Gabbart
Moore
McCoy
Hoyer
Depends on how you play your QB, cant tell just by stats. If you will scramble for time and still pass Carr is a bit better cus of his better RUN. But if once you tuck then your off Gabbart is more your man. Also need to see ACC, some fast QBs start off like a mac truck they have so low ACC.
Moore is your most rounded though. Being about mid option in all categories, but limits how effective play action may be.
Cobb seems like a decent filler, still would jump at a solid #2 though. I would like him more as a slot personally.
I do some of both when I get out of the pocket. Usually depends on how the defense responds and what the playcall was (are there receivers coming this side of the field, is it a deep or short pattern, etc.)
That said, Gabbert has showed up as #1 or #2 on everyone's lists so far, with JHey mentioning Grossman, and you're the first who's brought up Carr.
Right now, looks like I'm going with Gabbert, though McCoy has support, too...
Top 5 ACC ratings:
Troy Smith: 86
Colt McCoy: 83
Blaine Gabbert: 79
Matt Moore: 75
Pryor has 82 ACC. Johnson has 92 ACC."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

Week 13 - Midweek News
NCAA Football News:
San Jose State FB Hank Delaney is consider a poor lead blocker, leading some to wonder if he will switch to HB and enter draft in that role in the backfield.
Awards:
NFC DPoW: Vikings CB Kyle Arrington
AFC DPoW: Broncos SS Quinton Carter
NFC OPoW: Lions QB Matthew Stafford
AFC OPoW: Chiefs QB Matt Cassell
Giants sacked Bucs QB Joe Webb 4 times en route to 41-24 win.
The Chiefs fell victim to the Raiders rushing attack in 36-30 loss.
Raiders News:
Scouting:
The team took a deeper look at HB Tyrone Dore, 7th round projection out of North Carolina. The team became a bit less impressed with him as he barely hits the range of the "A" grade given to him in speed (91), trucking (89) and elusiveness (90). Still, though, some think he's still worth taking as a potential 3rd or 4th HB.
Another solid WR prospect was uncovered. UTEP's Bobby Jackson impressed on tape with his ability to work in tight spaces and his focus in traffic. He also seemed difficult to beat with press coverage. Questions exist about his quickness as well as his footwork, but he may be worth a look in the 5th round where he's projected to go.
The team also basically confirmed that, of the draftees currently known to the team, the only QBs of interest are Wade Schumacher and Reshard Watson. Watson is the intelligent one of the pair and is slightly more mobile, but Schumacher has the cannon arm and is slightly more accurate.
Notable Progression:
HB Julio Caulder:
ELU: 82 to 83 (this rating is about to get real expensive...)
BCV: 86 to 87
CAR: 80 to 81
AWR: 74 to 75
HB Steven Grant:
TRK: 79 to 80
WR Denarius Moore:
RTE: 87 to 88

SS Mike Mitchell:
PRC: 77 to 79
LB Rolando McClain:
STR: 78 to 79
LB Jake Olsen:
STA: 86 to 87
ZCV: 83 to 84
CB Brandon Madison:
AWR: 39 to 41
QB Terrelle Pryor:
MAC: 78 to 79
LG Aaryn DePriest:
STA: 68 to 74
Roster Moves
Released WR Juron Criner.
Released CB Sam Woodfaulk.
Signed QB Blaine Gabbert.
Signed QB Colt McCoy.
Steven Grant is named starting HB after a good week of practice. Caulder is expected to see significant time as well. Though named starter - it likely means just the slightly larger portion of a time share situation.
Colt McCoy was named the starting QB, also after looking sharp in practice. Josh Johnson was named #2.
Sources close to the team have mentioned that little change is expected from the passing attack. The team may try "more short passes than usual" but, overall, the intermediate depth will still a sizable portion of the game plan."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

Re: Rebuilding the Fear - Oakland Raiders M13 CCM
McCoy Effective Enough
McCoy Finds Reece, Plays Hard.
Run Game Efficient, Raiders Topple Browns 27-16
The Raiders were in control for much of this game. It wasn't the outright domination type of control, but just a steady, tough-to-stop progression that slowly put points on the board.
McCoy was a lot of the reason for that. He game out of the gate hitting his first 5 passes and the team did indeed call for more short passes on offense. Eventually, the Browns started adjusting and the coaching staff perhaps tried to extend a rusty McCoy a bit much, but overall, there was little drop off from the passing attack.
Marcel Reece benefited with 2 TD receptions on the day. Denarius Moore racked up 8 catches and nearly 100 yards receiving as well, and that was with a few uncharacteristic drops from the usually steady receiver, one of them in the end zone, which would have been his first TD reception of the year.
Steven Grant's first day as primary halfback also went relatively well. He picked up 96 yards on 24 carries and a touchdown. Caulder helped in support with 13 carries and 83 yards. Grant was used in the pass game as well, picking 4 receptions for 33 yards.
Defensively, the pass coverage is still somewhat inconsistent. They allowed former teammate Carson Palmer to put up 300 yards and 63% completion percentage, but also picked him off twice, one each by the starting CB duo Carillon and Cooper.
The Raiders also stiffened in the red zone, seeming to adopt a bend-don't-break mentality of late. Dawson had to come in to kick two field goals that were the distance of extra points, turning a would be 14 points into 6. The Browns mounted a late rally, but the "delay" tactics of the defense bled away the time and the offense ran out the clock with 3 Caulder runs to claim the win.
Rolando McClain knocked Trent Richardson out of the game, but Nathaniel Pennix, a HB the Raiders had scouted last year, was no slouch. He picked up 6.4 yards per carry as well as sneaking out of the backfield to make Palmer's lone passing TD.
Greg Little was the leading receiver on the Browns, grabbing 5 Palmer passes for 97 yards. Ben Watson garnered the most receptions for the Browns with 6.
D'Qwell Jackson led all defenders with 12 tackles. Rolando McClain picked up 11.
The win was the 4th in a row for the Raiders, moving them to 9-3.

Notes:
Coach Lyle suggested that Steven Grant will start again next week. He liked the involvement of Grant in the passing game as well - perhaps wanting to model his use much like Ray Rice or LeSean McCoy.
Seems that Colt McCoy will likely be under center next week. He was less clear on it, but didn't mention Johnson or Gabbert at all during the press conference after the game.

WR Alex Givens (Monmouth) caught the eye of scouts with his ability to make the spectacular catch. He's fearless and keeps his eyes on the ball, based on his college game tape. Has some decent physical presence over the middle, but his route running can get sloppy and lax at times.

Re: Rebuilding the Fear - Oakland Raiders M13 CCM
I think that if you stick to the short passing game with a few shots deep off play action with a strong rushing attack then McCoy can be your guy for at least the rest of the year and if he performs well the next few weeks maybe you should start him over Pryor who I never liked to begin with. My only question is what happens in the offseason if A-Rod hits FA or you trade up in the draft for the QB you said you were interested in and you get one of them and the rookie underperforms or A-rod gets hurt what will you do about the QB situation then? Will you keep McCoy on as a backup or just stick too Pryor (as at least a backup) no matter what happens this season?Comment

Re: Rebuilding the Fear - Oakland Raiders M13 CCM
Well, Pryor hasn't been extended, but chances are we'll make an offer for him on the FA market. I don't imagine there will be teams beating down his door. Granted, his OVR keeps going up, so who knows.
If Rodgers becomes a free agent, we will go after him with ferocity. We have cap room, so money won't be an object.
Schumacher is interesting and if we get him (or Reshard Watson), he'll have the leg up for the starting job.
Now if we don't get either, we'll have to look at a trade for a starter. There's a QB on KC that could be intriguing and probably could be gotten at a reasonable price (unlike Giles from Cleveland). Could go big on someone like Robb Bell, try to pry him off Miami. Or maybe we could pull the trade, not worry about the draft or draft other need areas like WR.
But one (or both) will likely be around as backup, but that's some weeks off - who knows what might happen.Last edited by KBLover; 01-06-2013, 12:04 AM."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

Re: Rebuilding the Fear - Oakland Raiders M13 CCM
McCoy On Target
Raiders QB Racks Up 300 Yards and 3 TDs
While Run Game, Raiders Roll 41-25
There were some things not to like about this game. The Saints were able to force some fumbles, leading to some turnovers, and Drew Brees carved up the secondary, something that's starting to happen a bit too frequently for comfort.
However, the defense was able to pick up 5 sacks and Brandon Madison continues to find turnovers, grabbing an interception in this one, his 3rd despite not being an every down player.
The big story, though, is the performance of Colt McCoy, along with Denarius Moore, who had one of his games that the Raiders are used to seeing. He picked up over 150 yards and 2 TDs in the game.
Caulder and Grant, aside from the fumbles, ran hard all game long. Grant started off slowly while Caulder's first run went for 45 yards as the Saints sold out to stop outside runs, and Caulder just ran up the crease they made.
After that, Grant started finding room as McCoy's long drives continued to wear down the Saints defense. In all, Grant found 147 yards on 31 carries. Caulders wound up with 130 yards on 18 carries, as he seems to be the better beneficiary of a tiring defense. Last week, the Raiders passed 2000 rushing yards, and they seem to be gunning for 3000 with how they are running lately.
In the passing game, McCoy didn't take any sacks or throw an interception. He completed 70% of his passes for 310 yards.
Moore finally found the end zone this season, picking up his first and second TDs on the year.
On the Saints side, their running game was largely abandoned, making for little work for the linebackers. In fact, there wasn't much work for the whole defense in general.
Lance Moore was a threat, picking up 129 yards and a TD. Marques Colston grabbed a TD and 104 yards and WR Cody Becker picked up the other TD.
Brees had 353 yards, 3 TD, 1 INT on 65% completion. A typical Brees sort of day, but the Raiders were able to keep pace...and the ball away from Brees.
The win marked the 5th in a row, and the offense might be getting going, which could make the team dangerous. That said, the pass defense has to get better.
Perhaps the key to that is more playing time for Brandon Madison. The "issue" with making him starter is that he's excellent at blitzing from the nickle corner position. He picked up 2 of those 5 sacks and forced a fumble on one of them. This in addition to the pick.
"He's been improving his play the last few weeks, " coach Lyle spoke, "It might be time to test him as a starter and see what he can give us."
It would be interesting to see which one of Cooper or Carillon would be pushed out to the nickle spot. It would also be interesting to see how two aggressive corners in Carillon and Madison would fare in pass defense.
"They are both ballhawks, and that's good and bad. It might be something of a gamble to start them both, " one analyst spoke.
While true, something does need to be done. There's no guarantee that the run game can keep this up, or that McCoy can either.
